U Bučků, Lázně Kynžvart
Chodovar Yeasty Lager A very complex lager: sweet, sharp, and slightly citrusy, with an almost sherbet-like flavour. But there's a dry finish which keeps it fresh. Alan: 4 out of 5 Rachelle: 3 out of 5
#6 Chodovar
Chodovar Mr. Albi Black Lager
Was it something wrong with my bottle or is it a "specialty"? When I opened it the first smell hitting me was of... lard. Not exactly the best welcome from a beer, is it? Now it might be all my sick imagination, but it certainly affected the experience (yeast autolysis?). Even though, towards the half, the scent kind of disappeared (or rather I got used to) and a quite impressive dark beer came out. What should I do now? Punish the Czech brewers for the first impression, or cherish an otherwise tasty product?
Edit: better no note at all. There's something fishy here.
Mr. Albi is the dog who, according to the legend, sniffed its way to the water springs used for the great beer from Chodova Plana. Wondering why is the dog drinking a beer while flying on skis? Well, the label is dedicated to the upcoming winter Olympic games from Sochi where our folks are already delivering the beers to be in time for the February start (as explained by Mr. Plevka, brewery boss). Ski jumping, we're coming!
Not at least, in Czech they say "let's jump for one" when they mean to go have a beer. That could explain also why they're doing so good also in the Olympic discipline... talk about double meanings, hm?
