What kindness she had, she never showed him any. And maybe that was for the best, what would come of him if she assaulted him with kind words or smiles, it would be worse than being undone, but completely unraveled. “ Is that any way to speak? Are all humans as rude as you are? I’m guessing that would be impossible…since your sister is far more, capable of adapting to politeness. ” 

She never could hide what she was feeling, and often it was rather remarkable to observe. But he knew mentioning her sister would be volatile, and it was fun to guess how she would react. Maybe she’d even attack him. “ I merely wanted to talk… ” It was true, but there was a reason for it, something that he would hide until it was beneficial for him to reveal.

Was that even a question? “Of course. I have no idea what’s going on though, tell me what you need.” Remus was nothing if not flexible and quick to pick up on situations. “I have a hunch though..” He saw Filch limping their way, screaming bloody murder. Remus grabbed Sirius by the wrist, opened the first empty classroom they came across and practically hauled his friend inside. 

Remus however stayed outside, leaning against the wall next to the closed door, so when Filch arrived to ask about Sirius, Remus put on his best innocent expression. The shiny prefect badge on his chest rounded off the look nicely. “I haven’t seen him, sorry.” When Filch was gone, Remus joined Sirius in the classroom with a snicker. “What did you do?”

  should he throw the shoe at sirius?  no.  mostly because then he’ll have to get it back.  and half the reason he wants to throw the shoe at him at all is the level of exhaustion that currently has his shoulders hunched, a low unsteady breath as he tries to draw up the last dregs of both patience and strength.  it isn’t sirius’ fault,  it’s no one’s fault.  fenrir’s fault.  that’s whose fault it is.  he amends quickly to himself.  he’s just tired.  everything bothers him when he’s tired. 

      ‘  i’ve got to get to class.  i can’t miss anymore days.  i’ll get too far behind.  ‘ he is half mumbling as he gives up on shoes for the moment,  reverting to pullign another jumper on to keep warm.  after the full moons he’s always ravaged by the pervading weakness in his body.  he hates it.  and sometimes it makes him hate himself that little bit more.  

                ‘  i’m just tired.  that’s all.  ‘ not even really listening to sirius as he aims again  lace the worn converse.

     For a man who spent more time working and caring for his ailing mother: Arthur hardly had time to care for himself anymore. She’s become entirely dependent on him all the while he’s found himself pulling extra hours at work in attempts to make up for the portions of his paychecks that Hoyt has snatched away from him to pay back for a broken sign that a group of kids jumped Arthur for. The one that he tried to explain was broken- not stolen and yet here he is, paying the money back for it because Hoyt doesn’t believe Arthur despite the now healing bruises coating Arthur’s back. This particular evening instead of returning home, he’s found himself on Evicka’s doorstep. He should feel bad about it- but he doesn’t. He’s left his mother alone for more time than he should, but Evicka was always like a breath of fresh air: a woman who often allowed Arthur to come see her whether it be at work or at home and he could allow the stressors of his life to wash away with the tide for a few hours as he simply existed in Evicka’s presence and enjoyed every second of it. He really liked her. She’s smart- beautiful. Caring.

     And usually, he would show up freshly spritzed with cologne and his hair neatly combed back, but today was different. He’s shown up after a long day of work and his dark curled locks of hair were left tangled and dangling carelessly around his face after a long day of being tucked beneath Carnival’s wig. His single attempt to sweet the hair back by hand proved fruitless and soon, he’s found himself sitting still as Evicka carefully works a brush through the tangled curls. It was unexpected: such a tender gesture that was more intimate feeling than he ever realized despite being the one to groom his own mother’s hair every single day. His eyes remain casted down towards his hands which rested on his lap as he’s trying not to allow himself to lean into each stroke of the brush. It feels nice: everything that she does for him feels nice and he’s often times found himself fantasizing over her touch. Craving it in the middle of the night as he laid alone on his couch staring up at the ceiling as he imagined that he was resting his head upon her lap- the two of them watching the Murray Franklin Show together and her dainty fingers would slowly stroke through his hair. And he would watch her more than the show- watch the way her face would light up with ever laugh Murray earned from her and it was by far the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen. This was something that that he deeply desired but yet, he’s been far too shy to invite her over. Nor could he ever stay here with her for too long as his mother waited for him at home. There was hardly any balance in his life and his wants, needs and desires remained on the backburner just as they always have.  “Hey, Evicka?” he asks, his tone more of a thoughtful one. He’s been wanting to ask her for a while now and it felt right to bring it up in such a gentle moment.  “I... I really want to take you to Pogo’s with me this Friday.” he said. “Would.. you like to come with me?”

Terribly erroneous it would be to claim that Portia was medically inclined. She hardly had the eye for spotting subtle injuries, nor the steady hand to properly tend to a wound. Such traits lied predominantly within her brother’s realm of expertise, but that was hardly of any help when he was elsewhere. No matter, the handmaiden trusted her skills enough so that outwardly she managed an expression of assurance, even if doubt curled through her mind like a bitter reminder of the education she’d not received. 

“Nonsense! Don’t even worry about it at all, I’ll fix it up in no time.” The redhead coaxed the other woman to lay back on the couch where a curious Pepi was waiting to curl up at Nish’s side. Kneeling beside it on the rug Portia sifted through the bag she’d planted beside herself, nose crinkled in concentration. The little aid bag was something she’d put together herself and still...

That didn’t seem to mean it was any more organized. The fact that she’d been able to find it had been fortunate in itself. 

A smile solely for the purpose of assuaging her present company’s nerves tugged at her lips as she blew an unruly strand of hair from her face, a mirror of ease and warmth only slightly frayed at the edges by the minor disorganization she could berate herself for later. “Wanna tell me what happened?” She could try to guess how the apprentice had managed to get injured if she truly wanted, but Portia was nothing if not a willing ear to listen and the flow of pleasant conversation would hopefully serve as a viable distraction from less pleasant realities.

the easy answer would be yes. there are so many things she should know, so many things he wants to tell her but his mind can’t put them into words. ( — can’t, don’t dare, there is no difference. ) he doesn’t even look at her right away for he knows his eyes would give him away. she knows him too well, she always has. he knows it’s because they are similar yet so wastly different. it’s because she knows what he’s saying when he’s not using any words. he cannot say it’s the same for him. he hardly ever understands what’s going on, is too literate, cannot properly read body language. yet, with her, it is easier sometimes. still, she is a mystery.

so many things he wants to tell her, so many things she wouldn’t understand. his mind is running and running, circling, trailing along new paths and going back to the old ones. finally, david looks up to meet her gaze, abandoning his work long enough to converse with her, to acknowledge her. to appreciate her in his own way. he could have sworn he would have expressed all of his thoughts right then and there as he looks at her. and yet, his mind goes blank and there is only one thing leaving his mouth,    ❝ did you know that you can melt the metal gallium in the palm of your hand? ❞    hands fumble, clasping together as if he’s holding the metal between his hands. it’s not the most brilliant thing he has ever said to her, rather the opposite, still, he hopes she understands that it’s all he can say right now. that he wants to say more but this has to be enough.
