I wonder what would've happened if Donna and Cheryl had got a chance to interact.
Oh man, that is something I so, so wish we could have seen! Â It would have been tense, yeah? Â That's a lot of scary rich lady in one room, two masters of bitchcraft facing off. Â Cheryl is so chaotic and Donna is so purely controlled that I know there'd be an impressive clash should they have reason to clash (and they almost certainly would, I would have to assume Cheryl would be there as an assist to Betty), but I can't quite picture it? Â I keep picturing them just circling each other like that one scene with Scar and Simba in The Lion King, and they'd just be sizing each other up, each insulting the other in their own particular way. Â I will say, there's some Cheryl and Donna (and Cheryl/Donna) interaction somewhere in the fic when did your heart go missing? although it's not, like, a big thing. Â But I remember enjoying it, so check it out!

Itâs over. The battle with Amara has been dealt with and the two siblings are going to take some time away from Earth to make things right. Donna was there when they left, a feeling in her heart she couldnât quite name, but she felt empty, that much she could figure out. But she put those aside to help Dean comfort his mother who was dead for over thirty years understand that she was alive and in the future in a sense. The trio made their way back to the Bunker where Sam and Castiel were waiting, relieved that they were alright.
That night, Donna left for her room to give the boys some time to reconnect with their mother. Once inside her room, someone was sitting on her bed, someone she thought she wouldnât be seeing for a while now.
âChuck?â
âHey darling.â
Donna closed her door, making her way over to the bed. Chuck stood up and wrapped her in a hug when she was close enough. He heard her sigh and held her tighter, placing a kiss on the top of her head.
âI thought I wouldnât see you again,â she whispered, pulling away from his chest.
âI know. Iâm sorry that I didnât tell you. But Iâll tell you now. I am going away for a little while to try and reconnect with Amara. I donât know how long thatâll be, but know that you wonât be alone, okay? If you need me, Iâm only a prayer away,â he stated, lifting her chin to look her in the eyes.
âI donât want you to leave,â came her stuttered response as tears began to fill her eyes, but didnât fall.
âI know Donna, I know. I donât want to leave you either, but I promised Amara that I would try to be a better brother to her. Iâll stay the night, but in the morning, Iâll take my leave.â That was more than enough for Donna right now. Why dwell on the negatives right now when she could spend one more night with the man she loved. When morning came, Chuck was there when she woke up with breakfast for her. The two spent most of the morning in bed, not wanting to leave. But they couldnât avoid it forever.
âI have to go now,â Chuck commented as he sat up in bed. Donna sighed, sitting up with him.
âI know. I just wish you didnât.â
He looked her in the eyes, blue eyes sparkling with sadness and love. âI do, too. But Iâll be back before you know it. Just remember, Iâm only one call away, Donna. Whenever you need me, Iâll be there.â
Smiling sadly, she leaned forward, wrapping her arms around the man she loved. He returned the hug, staying like that for a few moments more. Before Chuck pulled away from her embrace, he kissed Donna like it was the first time and the last. A kiss that said everything he wanted to say but didnât. Leaning back, it left them both a little dizzy but giddy.
âI love you, Donna.â
âI love you too, Chuck.â
One more kiss and he was gone. Neither one knew when heâd be back. But he kept his promise. Time would continue and there would be hunts to do, people to save. Donna fell back into routine with the boys. She kept in touch and visited Jody and the girls. While she missed Chuck dearly, she knew she could go through the days without him. But she was lying to herself. As the days went by, she found herself reliving her memories with Chuck. So he wasnât gone. Just not there right now. He was only a call away, but she didnât want to bother him while he was with Amara.
*Flashbacks*
âIâm only one call away. Iâll be there to save the day. Superman got nothing on me. Iâm only one call away.â
It was a stupid idea going on a hunt by herself. It was supposed to be a simple salt and burn. Nothing was simpler than that. But of course, the ghost didnât like that. Right now she was wishing she had taken Sam or Dean with her (or even both) but she wanted to prove herself. And now she was staring at the ghost of a young girl who has just knocked her down before she could burn her bones.
âWell, it looks like you could use some help.â
Donna looked up in shock at Chuck as he waved his hand and the grave was set ablaze, the ghost vanishing into flames. He offered her his hand and pulled her off the ground. âHowâŚ?â
Chuckling, he wiped some of the dirt off of her face, âYou called.â
âBut I didnât,â Donna brushed her jeans off, giving her boyfriend a look of confusion.
âTrue. I was worried when I didnât hear anything from you so I decided to come find you myself,â he admitted, rubbing the back of neck as a blush spread across his cheeks.
Donna couldnât help but smile at how flustered Chuck was, which was adorable to say the least. âWell, it looks like I have my own Superman than. You saved me. My hero,â she placed a kiss on his cheek. He huffed a laugh before taking them both back to the motel she was staying at
âCall me baby, if you need a friend. I just wanna give you love. C'mon, c'mon, c'mon. Reaching out to you, so take a chance. No matter where you go, you know youâre not alone.â
Donna was just having an off day. Nothing seemed to work for her. Sam tried his best to cheer her up, but it didnât help. Dean made her some pie, but even that didnât help. They left her in the library curled up with a book.
âDonna, hey. Is there anything we can get you at the store?â Sam asked, his eyes betraying him.
She gave him a small smile and replied, âNah, Iâm good. Thank you though.â
âAlright, weâll be back soon. Call if you need anything, alright?â Dean commented as he handed her a mug of her favorite tea.
âWill do. Thanks.â And with that, the boys were on their way. Donna enjoyed her tea and read her book in comfortable silence. There was a lonely feeling in her chest that she decided to ignore. But Chuck wasnât having any of that. One second she was curled up in the easy chair in the library and the next, Donna found herself in her bed, Netflix playing in the background, and an arm wrapped around her shoulders.
âChuck?!â
âYes?â he grinned down at her. Rolling her eyes, she settled next to him, her head cushioned on his chest.
âA little warning next time, yeah?â
âYes dear,â he chuckled, placing a kiss on her head, âwhatâs going through your mind?â
Chuck heard her sigh, picking at the blanket around them, âJust an off day. I just feel like nothing was working out today.â
âHey, look at me.â
Donna looked up at Chuck, his eyes full of love, âIâm here if you need a friend to talk to. If you ever feel alone, you call for me. You wonât ever be alone. Iâm only a call away.â She smiled at the man, the being, she was lucky enough to call hers.
âAlright. Iâll remember that.â
And she would remember that, even if she didnât always act on it. Donna knew Chuck would be there for her no matter what, but sometimes she didnât want to bother him with her problems. But he always knew and would show up anyways just to do something nice for her.
âCome along with me and donât be scared, I just wanna set you free. C'mon, c'mon, c'mon. You and me can make it anywhere. For now, we can stay here for a while. âCause you know, I just wanna see you smile. No matter where you go, you know youâre not alone.â
Same setting. Same bunker walls. Same Kansas sky line. Day in and day out, everything looked basically the same when there wasnât a case. And it got boring. There was nothing to clean, nothing to organize, she didnât feel like practicing shooting. All Donna wanted was to get away for an hour, a day, just escape the humdrum of life for a moment. But she didnât call Chuck. She didnât want to take him away from his busy schedule of fixing Heaven. So she curled up on the couch, turned the tv on, and tried to get lost in some random show she didnât catch understand.
Thatâs where Chuck found her. She always seemed to forget that he could feel when she was feeling off, when she was having a bad day. When he sat down on the couch beside her, she didnât jump, having gotten used to him randomly popping in and out, she just shifted her position so she could curl up against Chuckâs side. Throwing an arm around her shoulders, he ran his fingers up and down her arm as they just the documentary that was playing.
âWhat are you thinking about, love?â he broke the silence after a few minutes.
With a sigh, Donna replied, âNothing much. Just about how I want to get away for a while, an hour, a day, just get away from the same old things.â
âWhy didnât you just ask? I can take you anyway you want to go. You name it, weâre there,â Chuck stated, lacing his hand with hers.
âI didnât want to draw you away from Heaven.â
âHeaven will be alright without me for a day. Besides, I need a break from fixing it. So where would you want to go?â
Donna actually hadnât thought about the where. She just knew she wanted something different. Sitting up, she turned to face Chuck and gave a smile.
âHonestly? I hadnât thought that far ahead. As long as Iâm with you, I donât care where we go. We could stay here and Iâd be happy. Wherever we go, as long as youâre with me, itâs perfect.â
With a chuckle, he leaned in, placing a soft kiss against her lips. Pulling away, Chuck rested his forehead against Donnaâs. âWhy are you so cute?â
âJust lucky I guess,â she replied, placing another kiss to his lips. Chuck pulled Donna into his lap, hands rubbing up and down her arms.
âHow about Paris?â
âHow would we get there?â she asked, tilting her head slightly. He tightened his grip on Donnaâs waist just a bit.
âDo you trust me?â
âOf course I do, Chuck.â
With a smirk, he simply said, âThen donât let go.â And like that, they were gone. Within a second, the couple found themselves in Paris, France. They spent the day in the City of Love, just enjoying each others company. And Donna was right. No matter where they go, as long as sheâs with Chuck, nothing else matters.
âAnd when youâre weak, Iâll be strong. Iâm gonna keep holding on. Now donât you worry, it wonât be long, darling, and when you feel like hope is gone, just run into my arms.â
âThis shouldnât be happening! How could I mess up like that?!â Donna cried out in anguish as her and the boys finished a case. Sadly, it didnât end like they wanted. A young boy was dead and she couldnât save him.
âDonna, hey, hey itâs okay. Weâve all had a bad hunt. Itâs okay,â Sam soothed, trying to comfort her, but she just brushed off his attempts.
âA boy is dead! I could have saved him! And I couldnât. I couldnât save him. I messed it all up.â
âDonna, Samâs right. Yes, sadly that boy is dead, but the werewolf is dead and you saved us. We all have to make a sacrifice play at some point, even if it doesnât end well. Itâs gonna be okay. Donât keep beating yourself up over it; itâll just consume you,â Dean offered, handing her a beer that she took but didnât drink. As the day wore on, Sam and Dean did all they could to help Donna out of her funk, but nothing worked. Even Gabriel popped by to try and cheer her up. Not even his pranks could make her feel better.
âI just donât know what to do for her. This case is just weighing on her and nothing seems to be breaking that,â Sam stated as he and Gabe watched Dean bring Donna a cup of hot chocolate and sit beside her, not attempting to offer contact until she was ready for it. They watched her take a few sips of the warm drink before setting it down on the coffee table before leaning into Deanâs arms, letting him comfort her as best he could.
âI might know who can help her,â Gabriel spoke up, looking over at Sam.
âYou know she wonât call for him,â Sam reminded.
âWho said she needed to call him?â Gabriel smirked and he was gone in a snap. With a sigh, Sam made his way towards the two on the couch, grabbing a blanket from the easy chair and drapping it over Donnaâs legs.
âHow are you doing?â he asked softly, gently squeezing her knee in comfort.
âIâve been better,â came her soft, distant reply.
âGabe said he might know how to make you feel better.â
That got her attention. She sat up slowly and with a curious expression, she asked, âWhat would that be?â
âMe,â came a new voice, causing everyoneâs attention to divert to behind the couch. There stood Gabriel with Chuck and in his hands he held a picnic basket with her favorite movies, snacks, drinks, and a bouquet of her favorite flowers. Sam and Dean got up to take their leave, saying something along the lines of heading to a bar for a bit. Gabe said he was going with them and that Castiel was too. And then it was just them.
Chuck came around the couch, setting the basket and flowers down before sitting next to Donna. He didnât say a thing, just opened his arms with a knowing look that had Donna breaking down in tears again as she collapsed into his arms. Chuck never shushed, he didnât tell her it was going to be alright. All he said was, âWhenever you feel weak, Iâll be strong for you. Iâll hold you up when you feel like youâre going to fall. When it feels like all hope is lost, just run to me. Run into my arms and Iâll be there for you. This feeling wonât last forever, sweetheart. Itâll get better. But Iâm here now and Iâll be your rock.â
And thatâs where they stayed for a while, curled around each other on the couch while he comforted the woman he loved in the only way he knew. He sung to her.
âIâm only one call away. Iâll be there to save the day. Superman got nothing on me. Iâm only one call away.â
*End of Flashbacks*
It had been a few months since Donna last saw Chuck. She knew he needed time to fix things with his sister. That was fine; she just wished he would come back to her. Sam and Dean did all they could to keep her mind off of him for a while, Gabriel and Castiel would try and distract her, and it would work. She would be fine for a time, but then her mind would remind her that he wasnât here right now and her heart would hurt.
She just got back from doing some shopping while the boys were out researching for another case. Donna began putting the groceries away and tried to decide what to make for dinner when she heard music coming from somewhere in the bunker. It sounded beautiful, but it was suspicious. She knew she was alone in the bunker. Why would there be music playing?
Making sure she had her knife on hand, she began making her way deeper into the bunkers vast hallways, trying to find the source of the music. It wasnât until she got to a familiar hallway that Donna realized the music was coming from her room. With steady hands, she slowly opened her door and was met with a sight she thought she wouldnât see for some time now.
Chuck, with a guitar, singing to her.
âIâm only one call away. Iâll be there to save the day. Superman got nothing on me. Iâm only one call away.
One call away. Iâll be there to save the day. Superman got nothing on me. Iâm only one call away.
Iâm only one call away.â
Donna just stood there in shock, not quite believing that Chuck was standing in front of her. She watched as he smiled knowingly and sat down his guitar before coming to stand before her.
âHi Donna.â
Shaking herself out of her trance, she took in a breath and let out a breathy âChuck?â
Chuckling, he took her hands as he said, âYes darling. Itâs me.â
âIâŚyouâŚhowâŚwhyâŚ.â she couldnât quite put the words together, but he was patient, waiting for her to find the right words to say.
âWhat are you doing back? I thought you and Amara were making amends?â she questioned as he lead her over to her bed, taking a seat next to her.
âWe were. We made up and now she has her own world to create what she wants and a place to stay in Heaven. Things have been good. But then I remembered how lonely I felt without you, so I came back to you,â he explained, brushing some loose hair from Donnaâs face.
âI missed you too, Chuck. It felt so empty without you around,â she confessed, eyes falling to the sheet on her bed.
âIf you were lonely, Donna, all you had to do was call. I would have been there for you whenever you needed me,â Chuck stated, hooking his fingers under her chin, raising her gaze to his.
âI know. I just thought you wouldnât come,â Donna explained, feeling very vulnerable under his blue gaze.
Said gaze softened as he cupped her cheek, foreheads touching as he leaned forward, âIâll always come when you call for me.â
Donna closed her eyes, a giggle escaping as he placed a kiss to her nose, cheek, forehead, before capturing her lips with a passionate kiss. She ran her fingers through Chuckâs dark curls, his arm wrapping around her waist as his other hand cupped her head. They broke apart after a few moments, the need to breathe separating them.
âI love you, Donna,â he said with conviction, lacing a hand with hers.
âI love you too, Chuck,â she said with a smile, leaning in for another kiss. And later that day when Sam and Dean came home, calling out for Donna, there was no answer. Curious and a little worried, they searched for her, calling out here and there. Finally they reached her room, the brothers shared a sigh of relief and a smile. Donna was alright. More than alright actually. Her and Chuck were both asleep on her bed, her face buried in his chest while his arms were wrapped protectively around her.
Slowly and quietly shutting her door, Sam and Dean left the couple to sleep. This was what she needed. Nothing could make Donna happier than being with Chuck and vice versa. They were practically made for each other. Nothing was going to keep them apart now. Chuck was always going to be Donnaâs Hero. If she needed him, all she had to do was call and heâd be there before she knew it. He, quite literally, was only one call away.

It was always nice when things went according to plan, when there were no bumps in the road or hiccups to worry about.
Not that Chuck would know what that felt like. He was used to setbacks. Hell, a bump in the road would be nice once in awhile compared to the catastrophic failure that had become so commonplace. His entire existence was one failure after another. Heâd failed at being God, heâd sure as hell failed at being a father figure. Heâd failed as a writer, and heâd kinda failed at creation (though he did place part of that blame on his conniving, vindictive twin). Then, to make it all come full circle, heâd failed at being a failure and returned to being God. Most days he wasnât even sure if he was winning or losing or just standing out in left field waiting for the ball to smack him in the face.
