John Byrne with his Choo-Choo train drawing. 2014.
There have been many influences in my artistic career, but the one who I will always credit as having jumpstarted the whole thing was my paternal grandfather, Frederick Arthur Byrne, who, when I was a baby, would hold me on his lap, hold a piece of chalk in my right hand, and draw on a small slate.
I still have the slate, recovered from my grandmother’s house when she died. On it is a choo-choo train which she preserved and which, given the damp English climate, has eaten into the board to the point that it cannot be erased. The oldest existing John Byrne original, vintage 1952!!
Dear Gus,
Things to note: You have some crayons that have Sesame Street characters on them, so sometimes you refer to all yellow crayons as “Big Bird,” red ones at “Elmo,” and orange as “Ernie.” Also, you like lining things up into a “choo-choo train.”

I love that Infinity Nikki calls the train Choo-Choo Train but today I learned from the CN map it is called there 呜呜列车...
呜呜 is wūwū which is literally pronounced "woo woo" (flat tones) I love that so much (the last 2 characters just mean train)
