Opinion post pt 2
I don’t think the CHOP zone is just going to fail.
They’re not in it alone. They’re not trying to live off of a community farm. They have endless support from the surrounding community.
I think there are two ways it could end. The police or the military may attack the zone and try to ‘take it back’ which would undoubtedly be violent and tragic, and would ultimately reflect very badly on the US government/police/military. In the same vein, some very bad people with access to dangerous weapons (bc that’s just how it is in the US of A) may take it upon themselves to disperse the demonstration, which would again be violent and tragic.
Or maybe they achieve the change they want, and so the demonstration ends. And maybe then Capitol Hill will never be the same, and the community that’s been built this week will linger there for a long time.
Even if it doesn’t last, if for some reason they have to abandon the demonstration because of dangerous weather or a lack of supplies or leadership, they’ve already achieved so much. They’ve already made history and shown how the demonstration can be constructive and peaceful in the absence of police.
In so many ways it’s already succeeded. From now on it’s not about whether they fail, but rather the degree of that success.

There’s so much content on here so if you’re interested in learning about CHAZ check it out! Here are some specific posts:

Snap maps footage from Friday afternoon (12/6/20) everything still looks peaceful!
Bit of a map as of the 16th June.
It’s a pretty nice evening (15/6/20) in the zone
Although it might be raining overnight so hope everyone’s keeping dry and comfortable.
The longer the zone exists the less new info there is and the more conversation is just people’s opinions and damn. Some people Sure Have Opinions. After saturating myself with as much first hand footage/info of the demonstration that I can find most of it comes across as so ignorant but I guess not everyone can hyperfixate on a protest happening on the other side of the world to them and start an update blog about it so they’re forgiven.
Fans of cranes will be excited to hear there was a crane in the zone today (17/6/20)!
This new installation looks great!
@ everyone who wants to
a) go to the CHOP zone (CHAZ) with guns and ‘take it back’
b) see the police or military forcefully take back the zone
c) see the US actually treat the zone like a foreign power and rigorously patrol their borders, cut off access to power/water etc
PLEASE get therapy. That’s not healthy honey
