yuri, bless him, has literally no idea what love is. not yet – especially not romantic love. maybe one day he’ll get it, but concepts like attraction, emotion, overwhelming feeling – love at first sight – go right over his head. he’s never experienced anything like it, and even witnessing it second hand leaves him more confused, apathetic, and worried than anything. oi ?? why are you staring off into space – why are you all red are you sick ??? don’t get your fucking germs on me. 

if it’s explained to him, yuri will probably think it’s more stupid than anything else. but you don’t even know them. and can you really afford to be distracted? it sounds like a waste of time to me. he doesn’t have any real hatred of emotions – he just doesn’t get them ( or, at least, he’s trained himself into not getting them. it’s a lot safer to feeling nothing, or just one thing, than to have something as unreliable as feelings messing you up. ) 

if he ever experiences it? rip buddy, you’re going to be one confused camper. 

but the crux is that believing in any kind of love takes trust and optimism, and yuri’s never really had any reason to believe that people are anything but inherently selfish – very much including himself.
