Diana stared unblinkingly at the empty buildings she had come to view as her home. She was one of the last to leave the place. When news of The Institutes disbandment had first been announced it was met with incredulity. This organization that had taken the world by storm could not possibly be gone. There hadn’t even been a proper explanation.
There were rumors of course, speculation. Things from corruption in the ranks, to something as absurd as Demacia and Noxus joining forces to bring down a ‘common foe’. A low snort passed Diana’s lips at the thought. Only an idiot could believe something so farfetched. There had been no fighting, no sign of violence. Just the slow disappearance of the summoners.
Well, none of that really mattered now. The League was gone and she had nowhere to go. The lucky champions had packed their bags and headed on home. Gone back to their people, hailed as heroes and protected by their government. Others went into hiding. Those who were not so easily accepted back into the arms of civilization. The Institute had housed many who were considered freaks, misfits, criminals.
Her path had seemed simple up to this point. After unleashing her potential and joining the League, she was to confront the paragon of light; Leona. And she had. Many, many times. They had met on the fields of justices to ever changing ends. With the League gone Diana could potentially end it once and for all.
As fast as the notion entered her head Diana pushed it away. Pursuing such goals would get her killed. Leona had returned to her home at the peak of Mount Targon. A place Diana could never set foot in again if she valued her life. This left her with an odd conundrum. What was she to do now?
Surely there was a price on her head, her very recognizable head. The Institute had offered protection from those who sought her demise. Diana’s jaw clenched and her back straightened. She would just have to keep moving.
She cast one last glance at the towering structure before her; the setting sun glinting off the polished stone and metal gates. Diana turned from the sight, a new purpose filling her. Each silent step brought her from the end of one era and into the next.
