‘nothing’s forever, nothing is as good as it seems,’
nabi isn’t exactly sure if she believes fate, but there’s always the potential for conversion.
take for example, the scene for today: her, staring at the one year old german shepard at the local animal shelter ⏤ the one with the large, copper colored eyes that always held a sense of confusion and desolation within them. you could say that she was projecting and she would take that, sure; but during the several times that she had come to volunteer or just shop around, her throat would constrict at the way that others seemed to bypass him with ease, and he had come to accept it unlike the other dogs with hopeful wags of the tail and impatient pitter patter of paws.
other pets would come and go, but this one remained for far too long. nabi has made up her mind to do something about it.
she was always in search of a distraction ⏤ constantly on the go to keep at bay the thoughts that threaten to settle within the crevices of her mind. an active dog would definitely provide more than enough relief with that. she even forgoes her usual routine of pretending to make her commute to “work”, although the preppy office wear still stands out amongst the bleak walls of the animal shelter, as if there were someone to impress.
it’s something the woman comes to regret later on, when a diligent worker is leading her down the rows to the german shepard’s cage ⏤ mocha, she learns ⏤ and she bypasses a woman with a familiar frame. she sticks out from her peripheral vision, and while her senses are telling her to pay fucking attention, she’s too tunnel visioned to even realize who it is at the moment. that is until they brush past each other within the traffic of the area, lithe shoulders bumping into one another and nabi gives a conciliatory turn, murmuring out “sorr⏤” only to come face to face with jin hayoung.
and in all honestly? with the way her stomach jumps, she thinks she may have to check her pants.
because she can almost sense how this is going to go down, with the way nabi looks like the ones they made fun of during their times in high school. they bonded over their penchant for going against the grain, and while hayoung has seemingly stayed true to herself, she can hardly say the same. but a smile comes anyway, voice calm although she’s preparing her defenses within her mind, “hayoung? hey. i wouldn’t expect to see you here ⏤ but it’s good to see you again.”
she doubts the other can say the same.
