BIG BOYS Austin TX punk, 'Funk Off' / 'Baby, Let's Play God'
@slvfng
Finally peace took a hold of her on her daily morning run. Listening to Ruelle on her earphone, she moved faster and faster as the rhythm picked up. It was not that Hope really loved running, especially during dawn, in fact she would have rather stayed in bed most days, but today she was beyond grateful Nathan agreed to it being apart of her training. The past couple of days had been wild. She had reunited with her father, actually helped people and been helped herself, she had been face to face with a scary clown, and then she had partied large at Stark’s house.
Everything felt like a weird dream, one where she did not belong. Her normal was hiding away from the world, moving place to place to make sure she wasn’t being discovered. So running, even if it wasn’t in the future and wasn’t her favorite thing was apart of her safe haven. It was something familiar, something that would be unchanged with time. Things that withstood the test of time for her were the little things that kept her sane. Everything else was so different from the future, she couldn’t help but to fell overwhelmed.
Bumping into the man in front of her, Hope’s ear buds fell out and her inner train of thought crashed back into the present. “Oh my goodness.” She said gathering her bearings. “I’m so sorry. I totally did not mean too. I wasn’t looking where I was going.”

Big Boys forever!
Some exciting news today from Tim Kerr. The long-awaited documentary on the band, “You Can Color Outside the Lines,” will finally debut on the first day of this summer, June 21st — in Austin, Texas, as part of Go Skateboarding Day 2026. I’ve been waiting a decade for this doc. The screening just so happens to come right on the heels of the 45th anniversary of their debut LP, “Where’s My Towel?/Industry Standard,” which I’m not sure Tim and the others involved have realized — but I asked him if the film would also be showing here in San Francisco, and he responded, “We will.” So, hell yes! I’ll be there.
Here’s some Big Boys stuff I’ve collected over the years.

PUNK GLOBE: "The BIG BOYS were such pioneers on so many different levels. Did you, back then, think you were creating something that would go on to become so legendary?"
CHRIS: "We have no idea that the music we are making or the art we were creating was going to have any sort of lasting impact on anyone. We explored every idea we thought of, ventured off into a million different musical areas and had a great time doing it. The fact that people are still interested in it 35 [40+ in 2023] years later is mind-boggling. I guess no one ever really knows they're making history at the time they're actually doing what they're doing, which is probably a good thing. We sure as hell weren't trying to create something memorable we were just trying to entertain ourselves and create some art that we enjoyed."

"...the BIG BOYS' peculiar split personality (one part BLACK FLAG, one part CAMEO) became the soundtrack to my college years and I found myself preaching to my friends about them regularly.
When they played in Chicago I was front and center, transfixed by the brawling rhythm section of the stocky Chris Gates and the boyish Reynolds Washam and the twin weirdness of oddly-haired alien guitar scientist Tim Kerr and the Titanic Randy "Biscuit" Turner, who reminded me of one of those tutu-clad dancing hippos from "Fantasia.""
