“I expected you to be more cautious. You have people out for your head, do you not?” He wasn’t one of them, but if his name meant nothing to her she had no way of knowing. Cable had done her no favors if her first lesson was not shoot first, ask later. Survival was just that. Survival.
Erik finally did step closer to her. His hands stayed clasped behind his back. “I know what you’re supposed to be. Both sides of the coin. A Messiah I’m not convinced we need, or a murderer I’m not convinced would need to be stopped.” It’s not as if he would weep at the loss of that many humans. If that was her course, she would be doing the planet and their people a favor.
“I want to know what it is about you that’s special, beyond what Scott Summers believes.” He wasn’t ready just yet to say that Scott, Nathan, and the others who’d bought into the fantasy were wrong…but nothing about the girl in front of him leapt out at him and screamed Savior.
“The more cautious I act the more I stick out like a sore thumb.” Hope answered matter-of-factly. “I have people out for my head just as much as the next mutant or anyone with the nickname of savior.”
As he stepped closer, the red head tilted her head. “Listen, you think you know everything and maybe that will be your downfall.” Hope shot back at the man. “In the future where I am from, mutants are locked in camps, beaten and robbed of any kind of thing that can save them. There are collars, worse than now that strip away any sort of power you have. Our kind at that point has basically come to end and I could count the amount of mutants that are out and free using both my hands.” She sighed. “I am not saying I am any kind of Messiah, in fact I rather not be, but if we are going to prevent that future from happening, I’m more than willing to play any part necessary.” She looked down at her hands then back up at his face. “For right now, people believe they need someone who will save them, someone would will give them some kind of hope without creating a war. There are people that believe in me and they are willing to do more than they could have dreamed possible and that is a beautiful thing.”
Deeply inhaling, she shook her head. “A mass murder is not what we need nor is it something I want. But something that may happen if I don’t gain control of all my abilities. ” Hope said sternly. “The future is a lot of possibilities as for right now and you’re right I could certainly become either, or something else quiet entirely. But for right now, I’m just playing the part of a savior.”
“If you must know what’s so special, it’s better that I just show you.” Hope said quietly. “Look at the car, and look at the shipping container. Using your abilities, which I never have before I can make them-” She paused, using Nathan’s earlier lesson, lifted both the container and the car up in the air. “Float and come to us if needed.” Placing the shipping container down, gently lifted the car and brought it to her right side. “I am you, but I am also every mutant within a radius of me, I am also me.” She said simply. “I’m not so sure that’s special, but again if that what the people need to believe than so be it.”
