My Favourite Grapes: Grapes of Wrath are back!
I am not referring to the John Steinbeck novel, although it is a GREAT piece of 20th C american literature...
No, I am referring to one of my favourite bands of all time...The Grapes of Wrath. Formed in Vancouver/Kelowna (both cities in Canada's most Western Province, British Columbia) WAY back in the early 80's these guys had several hits that still sound great 20-something years later. After splitting up in the mid 90's they are now back together, and recording a their first new album in about 20 years! Until it gets release in early 2013, they are keeping their fans happy with a collection of their hit singles PLUS 2 new songs.
I've got to admit, when I heard they were reforming and recording again, I was nervous. I LOVED these guys, but sadly, many bands that break up and reform and record a new record after 20 years just can't get their sh*t together. Not the Grapes though...they have posted their two new tunes online and they are both really good.
Here is 1 of the 2 new ones, "Good To See You". It has an infectious pop hook in the chorus, and I can exactly put my finger on it, but to me is sure sounds like a Beatles record circa 1965 or 1966 with some of April Wine's best ballads from the 70's added in. I'm now hoping that the full length album will be this good...but I am no longer too nervous about it - they still got it! :D
PS: I also love this band because the guitar player/singer, Kevin Kane, is one of those guys who knows EVERYTHING about guitars. You gotta respect that in a musician! Oh, also, I bought my 61 Casino reissue from him too! :D
