Keasbey Nights by Streetlight Manifesto (originally by Catch 22) is Trans Masc!
Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution Orchestra Play Radio City Music Hall
Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution are a big band—no, check that, they’re a gigantic band. Formed in 2001, classically trained musicians Tomas Kalnoky (vocals and guitar), Jamie Egan (trombone), Nick Afflitto (trumpet), Marcy Ciuffreda (cello), Rachel Goldstein (viola and vocals), Matt Dannenberg (vocals), Layton Hayes (piano), John Paul Jones (trumpet), Achilles Kalnoky (violin), Paul Lowndes (drums), Chris Paszik (double bass), Mark Rendeiro (horn), Dan Ross (baritone and alto sax), Pete Sibilia (tenor saxophone), Shane Thompson (congas and timbales), Natalia Ushak (vocals) and Dan Potthast (guitar) have been doing their own acoustic take on classical, folk, Eastern European music and ska, performed with enthusiastic punk-rock energy. They put out an EP, A Call to Arms (stream it here), 18 years ago, but eventually BOTAR kind of fell by the wayside, in 2002, when Tomas Kalnoky and others began focusing on the horns-led ska-punk band Streetlight Manifesto in New Brunswick, N.J. The band’s put out five LPs including 2013’s well-received The Hands That Thieve (stream it here). But then seemingly out of nowhere and more than 15 years later, BOTAR returned, billed as Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution Orchestra, headlining the Beacon Theatre last year with a 45-person orchestra. And now they’re back again—featuring Streetlight Manifesto and some surprises—to bring their acoustic mayhem to the plushest room in town, Radio City Music Hall on Saturday.
