The 2019 season continues to be quite the trial and tribulation for Baltimore Orioles 1B Chris Davis. Davis enters Sunday batting .000. He's gone 0-for-19 with 11Ks to begin the season and is 0-for-40 since his last hit last September 14th. Davis risks breaking one of the most dubious of offensive records that was set by former Major Leaguer Eugenio Velez in 2011-2012. Unlike Davis who is a former All-Star, Silver Slugger and a two-time AL homerun champ, Velez was a platoon player (at best) who played all three outfield positions and 2B for parts of the 2007-2010 seasons with the San Francisco Giants and 2011 with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Velez holds the record for the longest hitless streak by a non-pitcher at 0-for-46. Velez did so during the 2010-2011 seasons. He started the 2011 season going 0-for-37. I would hope that Davis gets a hit before going 0-for-46 or even before going 0-for-37 to start this season.
