2022 Miraculous Ladybug Big Bang - F.A.Q.

What is a Big Bang?

A Big Bang is a specific type of challenge involving long fics and accompanying artwork. In this 6-months fandom-wide event writers sign up and start writing a long fic (classified as at least 10k words). When the early drafts of the stories are available, at first betas, then artists claim stories from the anonymously posted summaries. Artists create fanart to go along with the story.

How does it work?

Writers arrive with a fic idea at the start of the event. Once authors have begun writing, artists select fics to illustrate in an anonymous process, then mods match writer-artist teams. Betas also select fics anonymously and work with the writers throughout the event according to what the writer requests: bouncing plot ideas, helping with the flow of the story, correcting spelling and grammar mistakes. 

When can I apply?

Writer applications are open May 1-June 24. Beta applications are open May 1-August 5. Artist applications are open May 1-September 9.

What do I need to participate?

You’ll need an email address, a Discord user and if you’re applying as a writer, an AO3 account.

What is expected of me if I get accepted to the Big Bang as a writer?

Create a complete, previously unpublished fic for the event that is independent from your previous works (no sequels or prequels are allowed.)

Meet each check-in deadline. (See Schedule for specifics.)

Meet the minimum word count requirement of the track you choose: 

MiniBug track: min. 10k words

Ladybug track: min 25k words

MegaBug track: min 50k words

Post your completed fic on AO3 by your posting date and include a link to your artist’s work. Credit both your artist and your beta(s).

Work closely and communicate regularly with your collaborator partners: 

be open to feedback from your beta, and allow spelling and grammar corrections

provide your artist with snippets that they can make art based off of 

Keep the setting and plot of your fic a secret, don’t talk about it publicly outside the event’s server. 

What is expected of me if I get accepted to the Big Bang as an artist?

Create at least two pieces of complete, previously unpublished artworks to accompany the fic of your choice for the event.

Meet each check-in deadline. (See Schedule for specifics.)

Your illustrations should have the minimum canvas size of 2500*2500 pixels. (If you would like to create traditional art for the event, you should scan it in appropriate quality, not just take a photo of it. Post-scanning edits are allowed.)

Post your completed fanarts on the social media platform of your choice and link to the fic.

Work closely and communicate regularly with your collaborator partner(s).

Keep the details of your illustration a secret, don’t talk about it publicly outside the event’s server.

What is expected of me if I get accepted to the Big Bang as a beta reader?

Beta read at least 20k words of fic for the event (at least 2 MiniBug fics / 1 LadyBug fic / 1 MegaBug fic).

Meet each check-in deadline. (See Schedule for specifics.)

Work closely and communicate regularly with your collaborator partner(s).  Provide technical spelling and grammar corrections along with content and plot feedback to the writers if they ask for that. The extent to which writers decide to incorporate this feedback is up to their own consideration.

Keep the setting and plot of the fic a secret, don’t talk about it publicly outside the event’s server. 

What word count should I aim for with my fic?

It depends on what track you choose. On the MiniBug track you have to have at least 10k words by the end of the event, while on the LadyBug and MegaBug tracks 25k and 50k words respectively. There’s no maximum word count on either of the tracks, but you should aim to estimate your final word count appropriately to avoid misleading your collaborator partners. 

Do I need to get my fic for the event beta read?

Yes, we require all the fanfictions written for the event to be beta-read at least once in its full length. We will be allowing betas to select which fanfictions they wish to beta read at the beginning of the event. If you would like to work with your own trusted betas (up to 3 people), you may invite them to the Big Bang server. 

How will the matching of betas and writers happen?

After writers submit their summary, tags, the estimated length of their fic and the kind of beta help they are looking for on the 10th of August, all information will be shared anonymously with betas. From August 13 - 19, betas will fill out a survey listing their top 5 stories they wish to beta. Mods will announce writer-beta pairs on August 27.

How will the matching of artists and writers happen?

After writers submit their Project Proposal and about a 1,000 words snippet of their half-completed fics on September 14, all summaries, tags, and snippets will be shared anonymously with artists. From September 17 - 23, artists will fill out a survey listing their top 5 fics they wish to illustrate. Mods will announce writer-artist pairs on October 1.

Can I share any part of my fic/art with anyone?

You may not publicly share any details of your fic or art before your posting date (with the exception of posting teasers during December). This includes sharing details on Tumblr, Twitter, Patreon or Discord servers (with the exception of the designated parts of the Big Bang’s Discord server). This is to preserve the anonymity of the writers when artists and betas choose fics to contribute to, and to keep the suspense and excitement in the general fandom about the pieces. 

I already shared some details of my fic before I knew about the Bang.What now?

Please contact the mods! We'll make an evaluation based on your specific circumstances.

In general, we aren't penalizing people for brainstorming an idea publicly on Tumblr or Discord; and we definitely don't mind if you shared your idea or bits of your work with a handful of friends privately. Our aim is to preserve authors anonymity as much as possible, and build excitement and suspense for the posting period. If you have shared anything publicly, we ask that you hide the post and stop discussing it immediately in any public spaces.

If I apply and get accepted as a writer, is getting art for my fic guaranteed?

Artists have the right to decline any work they do not wish to illustrate, so while mods will do their best to match each fic, writers are not guaranteed an artist partner. However, all writers can still produce a long fic to be proud of with the support of the Big Bang discord community. Other benefits of being in the Big Bang are getting your fic added to the AO3 collection and reblogged by the Tumblr blog.

Can I apply for multiple roles?

We want everyone to have the best chance at completing their work within their writer-artist team. For that reason, you may only be accepted as either a writer or an artist, so if you apply for both be aware that it is up to the mods’ discretion which role you will get. However, writers and artists can also be betas.

What happens if I need to drop out of the event?

If you need to drop out please contact a moderator ASAP so they can inform you of the procedure! If you drop out before the official dropping date (the middle of September) nothing will happen. However, if you drop out after this date we’ll need to evaluate the consequences of this, and you might not be able to participate in next year’s event.

What happens if my partner drops out during the event? 

If you’re an artist or a beta, you can choose to work with another writer. If you’re a writer, the mods will make every effort to find an artist to fill in for you (this person is called a pinch hitter). 

My life will be hectic in the upcoming half year and I can’t commit to the minimum requirements (2 art pieces/20k beta-reading) right now. Can I still participate?

Yes, in this case, you can sign up for the event as a pinch hitter artist or beta! If one of our artists or beta readers drops out during the event and no other contributor can take up the fic, we’ll send an email to every address on our pinch hitter list with the story’s details. If you are interested in the story and have the time to create art/beta for it you can reply to that email and we’ll send you an invite to the Discord server. 

Keep in mind, though, that these assignments can have a short deadline if a creator drops out late in the creation period. There’s also no guarantee that we’ll be in need of pinch hitters, so if you want to make sure you can participate in the event and can choose from a wide variety of fics to work on, we recommend signing up as a regular artist/beta reader!

Can writers collaborate on fics?

Yes, writers may collaborate on a fic. In this case please indicate so in both of your sign-up forms. 

What kind of content is allowed?

Your work can be about any ships (or no ships). Salt content (content with a heavy focus on character bashing or other extreme critique) is allowed, though keep in mind that writers must explain any potentially salty content in their Zeroth Check-In and this may affect whether artists and betas choose to work with you. Crossovers are not allowed.

Are NSFW fics allowed for the event?

Yes, you may create NSFW content for the event, be that Mature or Explicit fic. You’ll have to indicate this rating when filling out the Zeroth check-in, though, so we can make sure betas and artists who don’t wish to engage with this content don’t stumble upon them when browsing the summaries. You’ll also be able to discuss any adult parts of your creation on the designated channel. 

Who can work on an NSFW fic?

You may only apply to write, beta, or make art for an NSFW fic if you’re over 18. We’ll trust your word on this, but if we later learn that you lied about your age we’ll take away the project. 

What if my final word count doesn’t meet the minimum for my track?

If you’re over 10k words, you’re good! (But please, even if you sign up for the MiniBug track, try to make sure your final work meets this count.) The different tracks serve more as an organizational tool and provide information about your fic for your collaborator partners, so it’s in your own best interest to estimate your word count accurately. There are no benefits to being on one or the other track, and you’ll be able to switch tracks until you submit your Project Proposal on September 14th, so we really hope you won’t have trouble with this!

ACTUALLY ITS A TOUGH QUESTION??!?!!! I'd say it's the hands because that's what i practiced the most, but the human body has such a complex geometry that nothing is really easy unless you studied it a lot

I try to be careful with those, particularly things like my pc or graphic tablet, everything computer-y is expansive so.... Yeah it's pretty rare for me to break my art supplies.

This blog has no real purpose more than just entertain, It’s in its whole a no-canon Undertale AU that is essentially based on a sanscest couple (Errink).either Error nor Ink belong to us (It also includes characters that may be named by these characters in a future of the ask such as Dream, Fresh, Paperjam etc.)

Leaving that aside! To be honest I didn’t have planned anything like a story for this AU honestly... but thanks to Shii and some good songs I found on YouTube, I have been able to create something up! ((I think))
