sherry had struggled to carry the present, but she had succeeded. she had overestimated herself, sure, but it would be worth it. she would suggest for her friend to move, however, because it was just unreasonable to expect sherry to roll herself all the way from zinnia. the apartment was quite beautiful, but this had always been to be expected. jenny was someone who appreciated the finer things in life and thus, the box contained quite a few nice things — a silk scarf that matched the blue of her eyes, earrings and a matching necklace and other things, but for sherry, the highlight was a silver-framed picture of them both. “jenny,” she greeted, a bit out of breath. “happy holidays.”
Taking the box from her friends hands, Jenny laughed a little embarrassedly. There was something about having Sherry at her apartment that made her skin flush. The stark comparison of Sherry’s home, a place that felt warm to Jenny as soon as she stepped through the door & the carefully curated presentation of her own home was, strangely, something she couldn’t help be conscious of. Nonetheless, she ushered Sherry inside. “I’m sorry I couldn’t meet you at the train station. The holiday edition of Sorcerer’s Weekly is coming out soon && everyone at the magazine is pushing everyone for perfection.” she explained, as she set the present down on her end table &&& brought over the tea she’d started making as soon as she’d gotten home. Jenny didn’t drink much of it, herself, but she knew Sherry liked it.
As soon as she was settled & the two of them had run over the expected small talk ( something the blonde didn’t mind, with Sherry. There were no land mines to avoid in their conversations, after-all ) Jenny dragged the gift across the table towards her. Unabashedly excited to see what was inside. Gentle with the wrapping paper, Jenny removed the presents slowly. Taking time to admire each gift && when she pulled out what felt like a picture frame, it about knocked the air from her lungs. A framed picture of the two of them. “Oh,” she whispered, touched, “This is lovely. Well, everything is lovely, I - Thank you, Sherry. I love it - everything.
