WELLING COURT MURAL PROJECT
by Billy Mode and Chris Stain
Oakland-born photographer Brittani Sensabaugh's career took a dramatic turn when she decided to give up pursuit of fashion photography and make it her business to "document all the places around the world where melanated people live that the media talks down on." As her 222 Forgotten Cities project works to remind her people they can shine and rise above pain and struggle, Baltimore artists Billy Mode and Chris Stain approached her for permission to use one her powerful portraits as the basis for this 2016 piece at Welling Ct. and 30th Ave. in Astoria, Queens. Stain, who's interest in art started with subway graffiti, learned printmaking in high school and eventually shifted to stencil art adaptations of photography. He is a frequent collaborator with abstract graffiti artist Mode, who's work Street Art NYC says fuses elements of math, science, and design. @chrisstain1972 @billymode @brittsense
