A deep cut:
Capture (2001)
“Sleeping At Last began in Wheaton, Illinois as a three-piece band featuring Ryan O’Neal (lead vocals and guitar), his brother Chad O’Neal (drums), and Dan Perdue (bass and keys). Early on, the group blended alternative rock with emo-leaning and atmospheric elements, building a strong local following through regional shows before expanding beyond their hometown. Over time, Sleeping At Last became known for emotionally-driven songwriting and cinematic arrangements…
In 2000, the band independently recorded their debut album Capture, and that early release helped them draw the attention of Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins. With his support, Sleeping At Last signed to Interscope Records and released Ghosts in 2003, which became their first and only major label album. After touring and completing that release cycle, the band chose to return to an independent path because they wanted more creative control.”

“This 2000 gem's got heart, rock vibes, and zero chill. Tracks like "The Thief" and "Love Never Fails" hit way harder than your last breakup text. Perfect for late-night drives or pretending you're in a deep indie movie. Honestly, if this album was a person, it'd be that quiet friend who says one sentence and suddenly everyone's crying…Self-released CD. Kinda scrappy, you know? You can almost smell the burned discs and MySpace pages. But weirdly... that's part of the charm. Ryan O'Neal was just a kid here. Like, barely outta high school. And it shows. The production? Thin. Sometimes bordering on demo quality... It ain't polished. Not even close. But man. The feeling? That's already there. Like, fully formed…Capture is rough. Unfinished edges everywhere. You hear the band figuring things out. But that raw nerve? That knack for turning pain into something beautiful? Already humming under the surface. This isn't the masterpiece later albums became. Nah. This is the basement tape. The sketchbook. The moment before the storm. Funny thing is... I keep coming back to it. More than some of their slicker stuff. Guess I like my art with a few cracks. Lets the light in.

“A very rough around the edges kind of release. On some levels it's near epic. The killer riffs are there. Awesome arrangements linger throughout. Ryan O'Neal's lyrics too often hit home. With all that being said this multi-layered release seems to go unnoticed.”
