Verbal communication has never been my strong suit. I live by the "actions speak louder than words" principle, mostly because I'm constantly at a loss for the right words at the right moment. This song addresses how I can never find the right words especially when it's someone I really want to talk to.
Now, I've had my ups and downs in my relationship with God along with the best of them. As much as I like to focus on rainbows and butterflies, I know as well as anyone that sometimes the valleys are sources of more growth than the mountaintops. I love the times when I feel like I'm in lock-step with God and my thoughts and actions are a constant prayer to Him, but I've had times where He couldn't feel farther away. And after those times it couldn't be harder to get back into God. It is, in a word, awkward.
What I've learned, through the years, is that it's easier to maintain an open line of conversation with God than to drift away and try to get back. Similarly, if you're not the type to talk to God, don't close yourself off when things get rough. If you're angry, yell! if you're upset, cry. I'm not saying taking time to think things through and process your emotions rationally isn't a good idea, but clamming up just makes you awkward. Get it out in the open. If you're frustrated with God it's better to yell at Him than to not say anything at all. The toughest part to swallow is "THY will be done," not "MY will be done." Keep the faith that everything will straighten itself out and be more wonderful than you could ever imagine :-)
