My Favorite Gift

Your eyes twinkle - like the soft glow  of warm white lights,  entwined throughout the garland. You laugh- like tiny marshmallows  bouncing around  in a mug of hot cocoa. You make my heart feel like it’s sledding down  my favorite snowy hill. You make everyday  feel like Christmas morning.

Yes, waking up to you by my side  is like discovering Santa has come; with cookies half eaten  and a loving handwritten note. But a kiss from you is far better  than any present under the tree. I would take your embrace  over a surprise in my stocking; your voice over any holiday tune. You were all of my wish list-  My favorite gift is you. ~ AB

Light piercing, gradually, everyday events, a woman’s eyes, hands used to them since childhood. Then brightness flared, too huge for simple days, and hands clasped when the words lost their space.

a wintry goodbye

Outside, there is wind blowing

Roads frozen, snow falling

Inside, there is roast dinner

Fireplace and Christmas tree

 Still I grab my boots, my warmest coat

We should meet at five under the nearest oak

All i see is whiteish haze

Milky skies , i´m in a daze

  But from far and far i see you wawe

I picture you smiling, but you turn up grave

you hold my hand, i feel your pain

blue eyes pierce my heart and fade

 pausing , sighing , holding breath

you say what you wanted to say

you rest your head upon my shoulder

and i wish to no avail that i was stronger

 but you´re leaving on the Christmas day

back soon , in a year , you say

we stand there for a while

no words left, i can only cry

 Back at home, i sit and stare

the chilly snowflakes turn to rain

the snowy days turn into months

you´re occupying all my thoughts

  i envy those who ate the pain away

or turned it into something great

the only thing i´m doing

painting pictures of you in my head

 occasionally i wonder

if that day was raging thunder

would you have had gone inside

sit by my window, change your mind?

 I climb the ladder of futile ifs

And when i lie in bed at night i wish,

I wish upon a stolen star

That one day i will know the  why.
