Podcast: The Inimitable Johnny Hodges
Christopher Lydon of radioopensource.org presents a wonderful podcast that pays tribute to Johnny Hodges. As Ellington said at Hodges’ funeral, “Never the world's most highly animated showman or greatest stage personality, but a tone so beautiful it sometimes brought tears to the eyes—this was Johnny Hodges. This is Johnny Hodges.”

Jacob sees the Dresden Dolls in Boston, visits places mentioned in their Songs, Part II
My second day in Boston, I walked for a couple of miles before the concert. I started in Harvard Square, and decided to walk to WBUR. It’s here where Christopher Lydon -- the subject of Amanda Palmer’s obsessive love in the song by the same -- recorded his shows. I realized that walking 2.5 miles in converse is not recommended. But the view of the Charles River was beautiful.
I also saw the awesome Edgar Allan Poe statue:
I’m still in the throes of #FerranteFever. Relieved that I saved one of her books (her first, Troubling Love) for this exact moment of feverish pangs.
David Shields and Christopher Lydon appearing at Booksmith tonight!
Tonight we are joined by author David Shields in conversation with Christopher Lydon, of Radio Open Source. They will be discussing and reading from Shields' new book, "I Think You’re Totally Wrong: A Quarrel". This event is free and open to the public. We'll be starting at 7:00 PM, you won't want to miss this!
"Caleb Powell always wanted to become an artist, but he overcommitted to life (he’s a stay-at-home dad to three young girls), whereas his former professor David Shields (How Literature Saved My Life) always wanted to become a human being, but he overcommitted to art (he has five books coming out in the next year and a half). Shields and Powell spend four days together at a cabin and talk about everything they can think of in the name of exploring and debating their central question (life and/or art?)"
Again this event starts at 7 pm and is free! Don’t miss it!
