Grease 2 (1982)

Why hello, yes it is the greatest movie musical of all time.

When I was a kid, if they played Grease on TV, they always followed it with Grease 2. And god bless them for doing that, otherwise I don't think I'd enjoy this movie nearly as much, nor would I have 90% of the soundtrack on my phone that I listen to regularly and sing along with and know all the words.

Is it a good movie? Look, no. It's cheesy. The songs aren't brilliant. There's some dodgy dancing. It looks cheap.

But does it have its charms? Yes. Stephanie is a boss bitch, a woman in control of her body and who doesn't take any shit from anyone. Yeah, she wants a boyfriend, but she's smart enough not to want any of the T-Birds because let's face it, this round of T-Birds is not the A-team.

She wants a cool guy who drives a motorbike, all right? And why should she have to compromise what she wants? It's okay to have a type.

And Michael is a total drip at first, but he has to change for her. It's a nice little turnaround on the original! Sure, obviously Danny does make some changes for Sandy, but they're not as overt as hers – in this movie, Michael is the one seeking Stephanie's approval. She's the boss. It's good!

I mean, do I wish the women in this movie had any aspirations other than finding a man? Sure I do. And do I wish they talked about something other than boys? Yes, of course. But this is a movie from the 80s where the woman is the one telling the guy what she wants, and having him go out of his way for her – for the 1980s, that's pretty damn good.
