My HxH ships: Revised
The reason why I’m doing this for the second time is because after working on some fics, I realised that there are some ships I like, some ships I don’t really like and just randomly put here.
Disclaimer: These are my thoughts on my ships to share with my Tumblr friends. If you’re some stranger who disagrees with it and it evokes negative emotions on you, kindly exit. This is fictional so it’s not something to be taken personally or even seriously.
If you know me, I am very interested in the psychological cost of loving/being attracted to someone you shouldn't in fiction. The horror and tragedy of a love gone wrong. I think it's an interesting exploration, so my ships often lie on the intense side.
I also want to put it out there that I ship more on het and yuri, not BL. I think sometimes fans tend to be critical when you don't ship BL in HxH as it's so popular, but my personal preference lies in het and yuri. Unfortunately, HxH main characters are male, I can't find a yuri ship I like in this show because girl-girl interactions seemed rare? (I need Jennifer's Body Jennifer/Needy type of yuri ship intensity). If you have any suggestions of an intense hxh yuri ship, they are welcomed.

Without further ado, let's go:
1. Kurapika/Neon
This one is hella obvious. I’m literally a Kuraneon tumblr. LMAO. I had also written so many fics of them. I had also wrote many many fics about them.

What can I say about them? This ship gets a lot of flack because well, she’s a flesh collector and he’s the supposed last Kurta that suffered due to his clan’s massacre. I think for a lot, this ship doesn’t make sense.
But this is exactly why I ship them. Because while at first glance, they don’t seem to be compatible, I think they set up an incredibly interesting dynamic.
First of all, they have a mafia background. You literally don’t need a mafia AU for them. They ARE in a mafia reality, especially when Kurapika is shown to be the head of the Nostrade family. This gives a lot of room for creativity in fanfics. How did he became the head of her family? One way that could happen is when the male heir takes up the business either through birth right or marriage. Since Neon does not seem to be interested in her father's business, the next viable person is Kurapika. However, if you are a fan of old mafia movies, you’d know that the head of the family does not just pass the leadership to an employee. It has to be their son or a son-in-law. Of course, this is merely a theory, which can be very useful in fanfics.
This was actually the premise I had for my fanfic Strange Bedfellows, where Kurapika and Neon are in an arranged marriage. To Kurapika, it was just for him to effectively have the connections + power to obtain the Eyes of his brethren. To Neon, of course, it was a way for her to keep a roof above her head. It was also beneficial for Light Nostrade because that would secure his legacy and his money.
But wait, aren’t Neon and Kurapika different? Yes, they are different in mainly a few things:
1. Kurapika helds onto the past, Neon is someone who likes to live in the present.
2. Kurapika cares for the dead, like his clan. He mourns for it. Neon keeps dead things because she thinks they are an object.
3. Neon is rather playful and childish, while Kurapika is serious.
Neon also has severe issues with her father, and ironically, Kurapika seems to be similar to her father.
Just like Light Nostrade, Kurapika sees information as vital and likes to be in control. He likes to predict the future and be ahead of the game. Both of them also longs for power.
Light Nostrade makes use of his daughter in order to gain power and control of the future. If Kurapika truly used Neon’s family as a way for him to get his brethren’s eyes, then he’s also in a sense, using Neon. Like an object. This is the same as the way Neon uses his clan’s eyes (and other dead objects) as her plaything. Kurapika (and her father) also sees her as an object rather than a person.
I think this sets up another interesting Freudian dynamic between Kurapika and Neon (as messed up as it is), on top of their fundamental differences.
Ironically, no matter how different they are, their struggles are the very reason that they had met. If Kurapika’s clan has not been massacred, he would not have gone to look employment under a flesh collector. And while we don’t know much about Neon’s background, we can explore the conditions that led her to have that sick hobby, given that she lacks a mother and her father is in the mafia business.
I also like to think this ship is hella kinky and dark. I had written a lot of brat-taming sex scenes for this. I mean, Neon is literally a brat! Kurapika has a domineering Aries personality, and he’s a mafia boss with chains, ready to punish the brat princess -- it gives a lot of room for sexy imagination here.
What’s more? They are complete opposites. Neon has stated she likes the Scarlet Eyes. Would she be so turned on when she’s looking at Kurapika’s eyes as he hate-fucks her? And her having his kids (aka living collection?) Yum.
She also is spoiled and Kurapika is the breadwinner now... So sugar daddy-baby dynamics? HAHAH.
Overall, I think this ship ticks so many delicious and interesting dynamic (no matter how fucked up) they seem to be.
2. Tserriednich/Theta
This ship is so heavy and dark, just the way I like it!
I realised they are another bodyguard-employer dynamic HAHAH. Says a lot about me.
I started liking this dynamic because it reminded me a lot about Clarice/Hannibal couple from Hannibal book series. Just like Hannibal, Tserriednich is a very menacing prince. He reminds me of Buffalo Bill too. In the manga, he is shown to kill women, and tattoo them and have them skinned. He is pretty much the definition of evil and someone who thinks he’s above everyone else.
Now enter Theta. Theta is trusted by Tserriednich as she is his bodyguard. Theta plans to stop him. Even tried to shoot him, but one thing I particularly find interesting is she planned to follow him to death afterwards. Reminds me of how Clarice tries to stop Hannibal, only to fall into him (I’m referring to the Hannibal book ending).
We don’t really know what will be the fate of Theta as of November 2023 (given the HxH hiatuses). But I did mention before that Theta’s name means “9″ in Greek. And as you know, the other Queens are named after numbers. She doesn’t have any ties to Tserriednich’s dad, but this naming would definitely make sense if Tserriednich is crowned king and she becomes his queen (through manipulation and brainwashing, maybe).
It leaves a lot to the imagination for fanfics. Also, I have seen tweets of people comparing Clarice and Theta, so I’m not the only one who actually can see the comparison between Tserriednich/Theta and Clannibal pairing.

3. Hisoka/Machi
I think this is another case of “guy annoying girl that he has a crush on”. I absolutely love writing Hisoka teasing and annoying Machi. I think that’s so him? He seems to be the flirty type. And Machi gets annoyed that he sticks to her like a leech, but over time, she has a soft spot for him.
I like to read/write fics where Machi has this guilty pleasure of having a relationship (or sex) with Hisoka. She hates it, but she can't resist this hot weirdo. Hisoka is a tease, I'm sure he loves how Machi tries to be in denial but she comes to him anyway.
I know the recent events in the manga has complicated their relation with one another. But then again, it will be great to explore another love-hate type of situation (omg, I’m seeing a pattern here with Hisomachi, Kuraneon and Tserriednich/Theta).
I think it was interesting how Hisoka spared Machi in the recent chapters. And I do hope they have another confrontation in the future. Will Hisoka kill her then? Will Machi unleash her fury onto him given that he killed Kortopi or Shalnark? This is just juicy, and I am there to find out.

4. Chrollo/Neon
I like to think of this ship as an OT3 to Kurapika/Neon.
Their "date" scene was even better in HxH 1999. The atmosphere had a soft filter, and you can tell Neon really had a good time with him. She even complimented his looks! And when he cried in front of her after the fortune-telling reading, she was so flustered that she had to go to the bathroom and say "why is my heart beating so fast?"
She even mused that he was the first man to show vulnerability in front of her. It makes me think that since she's surrounded by the mafia community and bodyguards where they are often serious and putting on a tough look, this might have shook her. It also tells a lot about how her father seem emotionally unavailable. While he tries to make her happy and spoil her, she still seemed upset in the 1999 version that he lied to her about the auction. I think this is why she finds Chrollo appealing, even though we all know he's just being nice to her to steal her ability. Nonetheless, the emotion of Chrollo crying for Uvogin's death is real. So that might have moved her.
The real kicker in that scene is that she said that Chrollo is "not a liar" "unlike her dad". But we all know he was deceiving her the whole time! Poor Neon, she seemed to be unknowingly attracted to men who are similar to her dad. Very weird and Freudian haha.
I like this ship because it explores more on a manipulative relationship, where someone has the upper hand and the other unknowingly falls into their web of lies.
The other added bonus is that both of them kinda share the same freak. Chrollo is a murderous thief who steals things and sells them, including liking the Scarlet Eyes (but he gets bored of things easily). Neon is similar, she has a nasty hobby of collecting dead body parts and having an interest in the Scarlet Eyes. Both of them are pretty much rotten in that way.
I think Neon would also not be bothered if Chrollo is a murderous thief, given that she's surrounded by criminals in her life. I also think they'd fuck nasty, it's messy and I'm here for it.
Lastly, the aspect of OT3 is just way too good. Given that Kurapika and Chrollo are enemies, it's delicious to think of fanfics where both of them like the same deranged girl! Ironic huh, that both enemies have the same type of girl. It's interesting to see them duke it out. :P

Honourable mention: Ponzu/Pokkle
I don't 100% think about this ship all the time, but they left me a lasting impression especially what they went through in the HxH 1999 scene when they fixed the ship. And also that bit in the Chimera Ant arc.
Unfortunately, both of them were brutally killed. I think they really had potential to be a couple and it's more of a "what could have been".
I actually wrote a fanfic where both of them met up in the afterlife.
So far I had only written one fanfic of them. I do have something in mind for them but I had not fully typed it out or conceptualised it. But you will find it if I write it in the future here.
There's actually more hxh ships I'd like to write about, I do have ideas but I just don't have the time to write them. So I'll keep it as a surprise for now.
