The Four Interpretations of the KuraNeon ship:
SOkay so there’s A LOT of interpretations of Kurapika/Neon that we shippers have explored. I think I broke it down to a few of such interpretations.
Here we go:
1. The Vanilla Interpretation
This is usually the most innocent form of Kurapika/Neon, where Kurapika is very gentle towards her and Neon is friendly towards him. Even if she’s a bit of a brat, Kurapika is patient towards her.
“She’s a flesh collector” conflict: Low to Non-existent
Enmity: Low to Non-existent
R-ratedness: NIL
Fanfics that involves “The Vanilla Interpretation”:
Star-struck by Numbkid
Marriage: Mission Impossible! by Animercom (this is one of the pioneer founding long KuraNeon fics ya’all!)
Mistletoe by Diamondsnsins (Other works by @unuxunu : Secret Admirer , Buenos días, mi querida señorita Neon , Verona , Stalking , A Vampire Story , I belong to you)
Stepping into the Light by Sunny_Window
After Hours by Cb_w (Not sure if this should be here or #2; @anotherworldash)
2. The Vanilla Interpretation with Hot Chocolate Sauce on Top
It gets REAL saucy from here onwards so read with caution:
Okay, this is kind of like them liking each other, but you know, with all the sex and lust explored. Kurapika is concerned about her being a flesh collector and he might even be a little annoyed with her, but he still is attracted to her anyway. Neon also adores him. She might even act bratty to him so that he can punish her later on. Calls him “Daddy” whenever possible.
“She’s a flesh collector” conflict: Medium to Low
Enmity: Low to Non-existent
R-ratedness: Yes or Maybe
Fanfics that involves “The Vanilla but with Hot Chocolate Sauce on Top”:

Pulsão de Vida by Myara (see also: Paz , Inconveniente ) [@itsmyara]

3. “Yearning for the Pleasures of the Flesh of the Flesh Collector” Interpretation
Kurapika dislikes Neon’s attitude and her hobby. He hates the fact that she still has an effect on him. He lowkey is attracted to her, but denies it because of her hobby. He’s always wondering why she’s so emotionally detached. She might also dislike his stern-ness and think that he’s boring and controlling. They can’t resist their desires and eventually falls in love.
“She’s a flesh collector” conflict: Medium
Enmity: Low to Medium
R-ratedness: Yes
Fanfics that involves this interpretation:
Marriage of Convenience by Sweetsysy
Strange Bedfellows by Numbkid
Better Than Him by Cb_w and Numbkid
Short Tumblr Brat Taming PWP by Numbkid
4. Pure Hate-Sex Interpretation. Enough said.
They said “Fuck You” to each other. LITERALLY.
The most extreme (and hottest) form of Kurapika/Neon Interpretation. It’s when both of them can’t stand each other but they fuck anyway. He objectifies her because he feels that she should be punished for objectifying his clan into mere objects. She lets him touch her because she wants to feel useful and alive again, since everything went wrong for after she lost the Lovely Ghostwriter. She’s obsessed with the way his eyes glow red because she finds them beautiful. He’s angry at her for making him feel desire towards her; she blames him for her father’s newfound favouritism in him. Lots of sinful attraction, possibly narcotics, alcohol and cigarettes in the mix.
“She’s a flesh collector” conflict: High
Enmity: High
R-ratedness: MEGA YES.
Fanfics that involve this interpretation:
The Bodyguard and the Employer by Numbkid
No Salvatore by Cb_w, Numbkid
This is the most fucked-up KuraNeon fic we’re ever going to make.
AIGHT. I tried to get every single fics out there. I might miss out some or haven’t checked the content of the others.
Isn’t this ship amazing?? Fuck yes. It’s so versatile in terms of interpretation.
And you know what’s the best part?
They are a thing in the mobile games.
Also: Kurapika is the head of the Nostrade Family in the current manga arc. What are the chances of him possibly marrying into her family... Hmm...
Battling clinical depression while just starting a new job. Just trying to get by each week and accomplishing little tasks. This week I just posted a one-shot KuraNeon fanfic. Gonna try to carry on because this Kuraneon ship (or rather a sampan) has like 5 people.
It’s over, it’s finally over. The expedition to the Dark Continent was completed.
Kurapika has no more purpose after collecting the eyes and killing the Spiders. He was stuck with an inheritance from Light Nostrade and a spoiled alcoholic woman to take care of. Truthfully, he wanted to end it all and take Neon with him - that is, until he had a crazy proposition to Neon that she could not reject.
"The Gods envy us. They envy us because we're mortal, because any moment might be our last. Everything is more beautiful because we're doomed. You will never be lovelier than you are now. We will never be here again"
GUYS OMG I'M GONNA SEE LANA DEL REY PERFORM IN SINGAPORE F1 GRAND PRIX!!!
Omg this is so crazy. I have been wishing for her to perform in Southeast Asia for years! To be honest I'm not really into F1 race but it's so rare for her to perform in Asia (if there was even any in the first place) that I just had to go. I wish she had her own concert, but oh well. Of course I'll still enjoy the whole event, including the F1 race. I think it's gonna be fun seeing it in-person.
I've always listened to her songs while writing fanfics, it gets me to the vibe.
...or, the day Hunter x Hunter Battle Collection shipped KuraNeon and HisoMachi (allegedly, ofc).
- A post by me and @thelovelyghostwriter
The Tanabata, also known as Star Festival, is a Japanese festival that celebrates the meeting of Orihime and Hikoboshi, two lovers separated by the Amanogawa River (Milky Way) that can only be together once a year. It takes place on the seventh day of the seventh month — in modern days, using the Gregorian calendar, it falls on July 7th, which is also Killua’s birth date (although the event dates where they celebrate in Japan are varied depending on the region you are in).
The origins of the festival are actually Chinese, as the Qixi Festival was celebrated in China and introduced to Japan in 755. Both festivals were inspired by a folklore story called "The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl". This story has different versions, but here we'll focus on the most popular one, which is celebrated on Tanabata.
According to the story, Orihime was a princess, daughter of the sky king, Tentei. She lived next to the Amanogawa River, which we know as the Milky Way, and was a diligent weaver. Her father appreciated the beautiful clothes she weaved very much, but because she was always busy, she started lamenting she could never meet someone and fall in love. So Tentei arranged her meeting with Hikoboshi, a cowherd who lived on the other side of the river, and they fell in love instantly. They got married shortly after and then... they couldn't get anything done! All they cared about was being together, so Orihime stopped weaving her clothes and Hikoboshi left his cows unattended, so they strayed away. Tentei wasn't happy about it, so he separated the couple, sending each one to their side of the river and forbidden them to cross it to meet.
Orihime was devastated, so out of pity for his daughter, Tentei allowed them to meet once a year on the 7th day of the 7th month with one condition: that they work hard in their respective duties. When the day came for their first meeting, they realized that there was no bridge for them to cross the river. Orihime cried so much that the magpies (a type of bird) came to her and promised that every year they would make a bridge for her with their wings. The couple is so happy that they grant wishes from the people on Earth.
There are many customs during the Tanabata festival. One of them is writing your wishes on little pieces of paper (called Tanzaku) and hanging them on bamboo, so they can reach the sky. The wishes are written in colored papers, each color representing the five elements in Chinese Feng Shui: Wood (blue/green), Yellow (earth), White (metal), Black (water), Red (fire). Black is replaced by purple because black is usually associated with bad luck. When writing the wishes, it is best to write them in the colour according to the type of your wish: red (wishes relating to your parents/ancestors), blue/green (self-improvement), white (personal resolutions, peace), purple (academics, skills), yellow (money, business, friendships).
However, it is said that if it rains on Tanabata, the magpies can’t come, and therefore, Orihime and Hikoboshi can't meet. When it rains on Tanabata, it's called "The tears of Orihime and Hikoboshi" and that the couple will be unable to grant their wishes. That is why people would wish for good weather during this festival.
Now, we all know Hunter x Hunter Mobage cards from the game Hunter x Hunter Battle Collection and they usually celebrate some special events/holidays, like Christmas, New Year, Halloween, Valentine’s, and White Day. They have released Tanabata cards as well, and the first ones according to our research (keeping in mind it's difficult to find the right date of past events when it's not in the cards) was in 2013, featuring Kurapika, Neon, Hisoka, and Machi.
We can see the details regarding the legend of Orihime and Hikoboshi, like the little stars and the bamboo with the wishes. What we found most interesting about these two sets of cards is that the designer wanted to make it clear who was paired with whom. If you take a look at the rarity degree stamp (the SR and SR+ symbol) in the lower right corner of the cards, you'll find a star behind it. Kurapika and Neon have blue stars, Hisoka and Machi have pink stars.
The stars in the Tanabata context are significant because Orihime and Hikoboshi represent actual stars, Vega and Altair respectively. Vega and Altair are separated by the Milky Way (Amanogawa River), therefore giving rise to this lore of the story.
It's not common for mobage cards to have this kind of marking. Some events may present little designs around the rarity degree stamp (e.g. summer events sometimes have little shells) or the group represented (e.g. sometimes Phantom Troupe members have a spider) but those little designs are always in a metallic color (golden or silver). To specifically mark Kurapika and Neon cards with a blue star and Hisoka and Machi cards with a pink one can only mean their cards belong together. So we can't say about other events, but in this one, it seems like they shipped KuraNeon and HisoMachi hard :)
Note: There are other Tanabata cards released in different years and they always come in pairs, so we also have Killua, Bisky, Neferpitou, and Kite being featured. Does it mean the game devs ship them? We can't affirm it, but what we can say is that their cards don’t have the characteristic blue/pink stars.
TL;DR: we are happy that our OTPs were featured together once in a romantic event.
