These guys were originally Magnus Archive OCs, and you can probably tell with Chroma specifically. There’ll be more info under the cut, but the TLDR is that Mal is in a similar situation to post-episode 8 Uzi.
Malik Prachett (WDrone) - They/Them
Chroma (Green DDrone) - He/Him
Kenos (Red DDrone) - She/Her
Mal was a drone who worked at a hospital as a nursing assistant before Copper 9 fell. Afterwards, they joined Khan’s outpost and started learning engineering as well, because fixing their fellow drones was the closest they could get to practicing medicine without humans around. They’re kind, awkward, and not particularly adventurous, so they were completely out of their element whenever they had to tag along with scouting parties. It was during one such outing that their team was picked off one by one by something lurking in the shadows. Realizing they were alone, they tried in vain to make a run for it. The disassembly drone finally showed herself, pouncing on Mal with claws at the ready. It was only through Mal’s intimate knowledge of drone anatomy that they knew where to aim. They thrust their arm into the disassembler’s chest and pulled out her core. They crushed it, then consumed it, ensuring the DDrone wouldn’t be able to regenerate. Their plan was to extract the core later for study, but as they walked back, they began to realize they weren’t alone in their own head. Not one, but two DDrones were inside them, and they both wanted control.
Chroma and Kenos had been in a territory dispute for months. They despised everything about each other. Chroma was a trickster who enjoyed toying with his prey. He reveled in being as confusing and unhelpful as possible. Kenos was a straightforward killer. Her focus was on efficiency and kill count. The more living things she could wipe from existence, the better. Kenos only won after many stalemates because Chroma had stopped taking her seriously. He saw it as a game of cat and mouse. Kenos saw it as extermination. She took a cheap shot and mauled him as soon as he was down. She devoured his core (along with most of the rest of him) and proceeded to block out and ignore any signs of him in her mind.
In the present, Mal isn’t too thrilled about being a glorified russian nesting doll. They go about their day to day doing their best to keep control of their body. The solver code in Chroma and Kenos that had mostly been locked behind admin access has since seeped into Mal, effectively making them a solver drone. They don’t understand that form, and absolutely do not like it, so it’s barely been touched. Sometimes Chroma and Kenos come out as the tails when they want to be heard by others, though. Mal spends most their time with Chroma and Kenos either ignoring their murderous jeering or mediating between the two. It seems the only thing both can agree on is harassing Mal. Maybe eventually they’ll learn and grow, but for now they’re just the annoying sky demons possessing Mal and nothing more.
- Human Mal has Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, and drone Mal has a similar thing affecting their mobility and giving them chronic pain. Some days they don’t need their cane, but they usually have it on them regardless. They also have a wheelchair for the worst pain days.
- Mal does not know how to fly as they have nobody to teach them.
- Chroma has his claws out pretty often. He likes how they feel.
- Kenos has no loyalty to Cyn. She just likes murder.
- For the TMA fans: Chroma was a Spiral avatar and reincarnation of The Distortion. Kenos was an Extinction avatar. Mal was normal until those two came along.
