Heyyy thank you so much for the tag, @chromochaotic! 💗 I've seen this game do the rounds and I always wanted to do it! Doing my own post since I imagine yours will end up creating a few different reblog chains hehe.
Tagging @princesses-and-bitchcraft, @heleentje, @ginneke, @velosarahptor, and @ghirahimbo if y'all feel like it, no pressure!
How many works do you have on AO3? 10
What’s your total AO3 word count? 58,779
How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
On AO3, I've written for three fandoms: Breath of the Wild, Twilight Princess, and Fruits Basket.
We do not speak of my old ff.net accounts, but I wrote a couple drabbles/one-shots for Harry Potter and Pandora Hearts back in the day.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Come Morning Light
Swan Song
Treading Water
Meet Me Halfway
A Fire in a Flask
Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
I always respond to longer comments or those that give me something to talk about beyond my thanks. The rest I sometimes leave as they are because I always feel like I'm just typing the same reply over and over and I second-guess myself ;;;; Plus I don't like to offset the total numbers too badly with my additions.
I appreciate any and all comments though, from wordless emoji dumps to big paragraphs <3
What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Definitely Swan Song. It was my first revalink fic and I had a lot of feelings about Link (and Medoh) being left behind at the end of the game, so I needed to get those out somehow ;w; All That You Rely On is also a sad one, but there's more of a silver lining to it.
Do you write crossovers? If so, what’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I've never written one. Not exactly opposed to the idea, though.
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Thankfully not! I did get one... odd comment where someone went on a mini rant about Hylia for some reason?? But it was perfectly harmless, just disconcerting lol
Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Nah, it ain't for me, but I admire those who can write good smut.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Same as Emmy, not that I'm aware of! (Don't try it, demon)
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope!
What’s your all time favorite ship?
I can't say I have an ultimate favorite, but the closest to that would be Elliot/Leo from Pandora Hearts. It's been years and I'm still not over them ;________; (revalink is up there tho)
Whats a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
There's a really elaborate modern AU I have for BOTW with supernatural/thriller elements, but that's a project I don't dare tackle until I get some practice dealing with multi-chapter works. Who knows if it'll ever see the light of day.
What are your writing strengths?
Sensory descriptions and emotions, I believe. People often tell me my writing is comforting to them and I'll never stop being over the moon about it ;w; <333
What are your writing weaknesses?
Complex plots, long stories, writing a wide variety of characters at once, extended dialogue, action scenes, etc. Most of these are due to lack of experience/practice and I'm slowly trying to correct that 💪
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
If done right, it can certainly add to a story, but it's a delicate balance to strike. It has to be organic and non-invasive, otherwise it becomes a jarring experience for the reader. Also, the writer has to actually understand what they're putting down and, if applicable, how multilingualism works (see: that one infamous hola, ¿qué pasa? klance fic sdgkjfd)
What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Harry Potter. At least that I can remember... I might've written misc Pokemon, Digimon or CCS stuff as a child, who knows! Certainly not my brain!
What’s your favorite fic that you’ve written?
I have a soft spot for Treading Water for multiple reasons. It's my longest fic to date, it was the first story I dared to publish without any beta reading, and that was the first time I joined a fandom event as a writer + worked with someone else's prompt! I quite enjoyed writing Revali's journey of understanding through other people's eyes... and him falling for Link in the process :3c
Hi there! I'm echoing everyone else saying your art is so beautiful—the compositions and colors!! Are so cool!! I was also wondering, would you be open to putting some of your other designs on your redbubble? I was most interested in the Revali Trial and Error piece, I'm a little in love with it, haha.
Thank you! I’m afraid only original designs will be going onto my RedBubble as Nintendo is very protective over their IP. The stained glass pieces were also not made on a very big canvas so the quality is too low to print ;;
I do need to put some more things up on my RedBubble though...
Title: On the Deck of a Dream
“Fandom:” @kallende-dnd
Characters: Seren Swift, Ravi
Warnings: Nightmare, Angst, Grief
Words: 252
Here, have another little Seren thing that’s been hanging out in my Google Drive.
Seren feels the ship before she sees it, pitching and rolling beneath her boots. She knows, before she opens her eyes, that she is aboard The Shark again. She can hear it in the snapping of the sails.
She feels Ravi before she sees him, too; a hand at the small of her back steadies her against an unrelenting wind. Something is wrong, she realizes. Finally, she looks.
A mountainous slab of ocean hovers against a perfect blue sky, casting the ship into shadow as it smothers the sun. For a breathless moment it just hangs there, a menacing curtain behind The Shark’s pregnant sails. Then it begins to collapse.
“Seren,” Ravi says, and she turns toward his voice.
He’s pale beneath his sailor’s tan, and his eyes are bright and urgent. The hand on her back moves to tightly clutch one of her own while the other slips something into her coat pocket. She notices with terror that he’s shaking.
Seren tries to speak to him, tries to ask him what he’s doing, but the words refuse to form. Ravi pulls her roughly into an embrace.
The wave slams onto the deck just as his arms lock around her back, and Seren sits up in her bedroll with a startled cry.
There’s a moment, before her body catches up with her brain, when she can still feel Ravi pressed against her. Then the moment passes, and Seren presses both hands over her mouth to keep the others from hearing her sobs.
@chromochaotic replied to your post: JeanMarco Month Day 13: Genre - Fluff...
are the fics happier these days? I hope the fandom lightened up a little…
Depends on were you’re looking! Lots of fanart and one shots are short and sweet and there are a couple of short multi-chapter fics that are light and wistful. I can’t think of any that are as long as Benvenuto, though.
Title: On the Flickering Floor
“Fandom:” @kallende-dnd
Characters: Seren Swift, Ravi the Boy
Warnings: All the things I’m famous for: Blood, Death, Grief/Mourning, Feelings, Angst, Emotions, etc
Words: 570
I’ve been picking at this on and off for well over a year, but the party finally unlocked Seren’s tragic backstory, so it’s time to set it free. Congrats to the Kallende squad for getting past Seren’s seven emotional proxies.
Seren had always liked things that sparkled.
The shards of glass that littered the jewelry shop’s floor blazed with reflected firelight; they gleamed with a ferocity none of the gems within could have matched. An equally breathtaking crimson ran through the cracks in this dazzlement -- a deep, glossy contrast to the vibrant orange snapping through the shattered fragments of window. Somehow, in the depths of a moonless night, Seren found herself sitting in a pool of kaleidoscopic light, glittering around her like sunlight on the sea.
It was beautiful. Everything innate to her cried out that it was beautiful.
But nothing had any right to be beautiful while Ravi lay shuddering with his head in her lap, bleeding all that crimson into the flickering floor.
“You should go,” he told her through a grimace.
“Don’t be an idiot,” Seren replied. She wanted to sound stern, exasperated. As if the reason she wasn’t leaving him was that he was being a baby -- as if he would be fine if he would only wait a moment longer. But her voice trembled, and his breath hitched, and the shouts of the Dwendolarian guards drew closer.
“I can take ‘em,” Ravi said, his grimace flashing into a smile.
Seren surprised herself by laughing, as only Ravi could have made her do with the world around them burning.
This is what I’m losing, she thought, suddenly and with finality. This is what I won’t have anymore.
She bit down on the inside of her lip, but it didn’t stop hot tears from rolling down her cheeks.
“Hey. Hey,” Ravi murmured. He took one of her hands and held it over his heart. “It’s okay.”
“No, it’s not,” Seren said, beginning to cry in earnest.
“It’s gonna be okay,” Ravi insisted, giving her hand a weak squeeze.
Seren found she could no longer speak, not without bursting completely, so she only shook her head, her hand rolling into a white-knuckled fist on Ravi’s chest.
“Seren,” Ravi said, so quietly she almost didn’t hear him. He smirked a little. “Jelly legs.”
Seren shut her eyes against the old nickname, and for a moment she thought she wouldn’t be able to open them again. She wouldn’t be able to move, not after this, she wouldn’t be able to get up and step into another second, and then another. She’d turn to stone.
Then she sniffed and forced herself to meet Ravi’s fading gaze.
“What?” she rasped.
“I love you,” he said.
Seren surprised herself by laughing, as only Ravi could have made her do. Then she surprised herself by sobbing, so hard her shoulders shook. And then by saying, “I love you, too,” just as she began to register the sound of boots crunching through the firelit glass.
Ravi’s hold on her hand went slack.
“Hands where I can see ‘em, pirate!” a Dwendolarian guard spat.
I’ll turn to stone, she thought. Any minute now. Any minute.
“I said hands up!”
I can’t move. I can’t.
“This is your last chance!”
I can’t.
Somehow, though, Seren did.
She lowered Ravi’s head onto the brilliant, shattered floor. She brushed her fingertips over his eyelids to close them, and her stomach lurched a little at the red smudges they left. She lifted her bloody hands to either side of her face. She stood. And when the guards pulled her hands behind her back and shoved her into the street, Seren didn’t struggle.
i don’t know why seren never considered following in riley @chromochaotic‘s path of wanton melee destruction so she could sneakily siphon some of that sweet sweet sneak attack damage but let me tell you now that she’s doing it it sure feels right
