i'm fascinated by her, and would like to know a little more lore, if it's possible? what were her motivations/goals for the puppet, for example?
Happily! [pretend it hasn't been days of this sitting in the inbox]. The current name she goes by is Web Hornbeam, aka Weaver or Webby. She's assumed human, and says she is, but there are rumours about her being more non-human and magical than she lets on.
Taken directly from our doc about her: "Web is the de facto leader of any group she ends up in, whether she’s a good one is up to those she instructs. Usually quiet and stern, she specialises in archery, preferring a bow and arrow but able to use a crossbow under challenge. Not often trusted by those she doesn’t claim as her own, she doesn’t show emotion very well, despite often being able to tell what someone’s thinking just by looking."
Now the puppet thing! She created Nameless [it literally has no name, so it calls itself that until it finds something it likes], as an experiment to see if she could create life closer to that of those with blood by using wood said to have unusual properties. She expected it to be similar to her (finds it hard to show emotion, a leader, and a fighter), but it didn't reach her expectations; it didn't even have a chance to be fair, but it would have never been able to reach what she wanted. She disliked how it attached to her immediately, realising right there and then that she did not want something (or somebody) that attached or reliant on her. She was unsure what to do with it, being convinced not to kill by her allies/friends, she instead leaves it with everything it would need to survive, and she does check on it at least yearly, but she is very hands-off and caught up in her own life/goals/situation. She does not see it as her kid or something that needs constant care, as she did not design it that way, so she assumes she can let it do its own thing, finding it hard to believe it would want or need anything else. She does trust it quite a bit [about 8/10 on a good day] since it's her creation, but she is not close at all with it.
Web is not parental at all; she doesn't even have any pets because (at least now) she knows she would not be able to care for them. When she was a kid, her parents already knew this (for different reasons than now), as she constantly went from one thing to the next as a child, and her parents knew she wouldn't be able to focus on one thing like an animal, so they only got animals they also wanted/could take care of when she lost attention. So when she created the puppet, that realisation came crashing down, and she did the bare minimum and left.
And that's my darling Web! I love her dearly, but if she magically ended up in a fandom, I fear people would heavily dislike her.
I'm tracking the fics I'm reading/have read this year, and I'm mildly embarrassed about the number of words I've read in only 25 days
