Chronically Ill Vox

Vox spins the narrative on how he died since his actual death was reminiscent of a ridiculous cartoon death, claiming to have been electrocuted by a live wire on the set of a movie he was starring in….. While he was electrocuted, it wasn't the glamorous movie star death that fit for the big screen that he makes it out to be, rather, he had been throwing a tantrum fit for a king over a minor issue with his dressing room and tripped over a television wire, pulling the plug and tangling himself in it before falling to the ground (further tangling his legs in the wiring), and ultimately dropped the tv on his head…. Unfortunately, the aftermath of death by electrocution? Chronic pain in the afterlife.

Nerve pain and muscle damage was definitely not an issue he expected to have to deal with in Hell, but unfortunately, severe neck pain has been his norm since he arrived in hell.

Because of the injury to his neck when he died, Vox still experiences shock-like sensations down his neck and upper back, which usually causes jerky movements that he can’t control. He hates not being in control of his movements, especially when it happens outside the safety and comfort of his home with the few people he trusts.

The shockwave sensations, caused by cervical spinal stenosis (a condition where the spinal canal in the neck region narrows and can compress the spinal cord/nerves), also causes severe joint pain and makes it hard for him to turn his head on occasion.

It took almost a year of going to the doctor before he was able to put a name to what was behind the pain he was experiencing: Post Electric Shock Syndrome (PESS). Velvette would call him an idiot for not realizing sooner that all of his issues of course stemmed from his death.

Headache that Vox claims are sent by Satan himself.

He hates the scars that the accident left him with as much as the pain and wears high collared shirts specifically to keep the lightning strike scars down his neck hidden from the public (Val has of course seen them, and traced them with his tongue)

Seizures. They are terrifying and always seem to cleave him reeling and exhausted. Before their friendship ended, Alastor was the only one who Vox felt comfortable with caring for him after a seizure… Valentino learned how to best help in Alastor’s absence, but Vox still misses the radio demon caring for him sometimes.

Trips to the chiropractor have been a huge part of managing his pain. 

So has massage, which Valentino is actually surprisingly good at.

One of the most annoying parts of the tv demon’s condition for him was the development of post traumatic tremors. Having always considered himself a steady hand in everything he did, this pisses him off on a daily basis despite not being particularly painful unless it causes him to hit or bump something or maybe cut himself while cooking.

Obviously, he has an emotional support shark onesie for the days he's feeling particularly bad. It's soft enough that when it rubs against his skin, it doesn't irritate the scars and make him want to claw out of his own skin.

Sharks being his comfort means that during his flares, he can usually be found curled up in one of his comfy chairs in front of his aquarium, watching them swim.

Val always checks in on him when he realizes the man is there for an extended period and can occasionally be found cuddles up with him. He doesn't like watching the sharks as much as the tv demon, but when he's in pain, Val likes to be close by.

When he first arrived in hell,Vox was beyond pissed about his power and his new look because he had severe ptsd revolving around televisions and electricity, and he actually cried the first time he accidentally zapped himself into an appliance.

Vox can struggle with his memory, often relying on Velvette to set reminders and alarms for him with notes for the important things that he needs to be present for.

Near constant fatigue.

During bad episodes of fatigue, Vox's control over electrical appliances around him can get out of hand. He's caused power and wifi outages on accident.

His screen glitching out or freezing during moments of extreme pain.

Chronically Ill Valentino

Val never really thought much about the random racing of his heart or the occasional “passing out thing” since he was someone who enjoyed partaking in the wonderful world of a vast amount of drugs and was oftentimes high or recovering from a good high. He always assumed it was whatever he took since Vox was always scolding him about not always knowing what he was taking or even sometimes accepting unknown substances from strangers at parties…. 

But when it started happening to him while he was stone cold sober, the moth demon started to worry. And in true drama king fashion, Val started getting his affairs in order and making arrangements for his funeral.

Velvette, being just as dramatic, designed him a funeral outfit and everything before Vox dragged Valentino to a doctor for some actual legitimate medical testing. Blood work, a full physical exam, CTs, MRIs, nerve tests, all of it. Vox wasn’t letting any stone go unturned during this little health scare and he acted on multiple threats to multiple doctors who claimed Val was fine despite worsening symptoms (totally not cause he like… cares or anything, cause that would be gross…..)

Val stayed sober throughout the scare, no drinking, no drugs, which revealed that there were actually a few more symptoms he’d written off that didn’t come from excessive drinking or drug use.

Brain fog, headaches, tremors, heart palpitations, fatigue so severe it actually scared Vox and Velvette when they began to see it, and some gastrointestinal issues that were far from sexy…. It was worrisome and unpleasant for him to say the least.

The tilt table test is what actually got them a diagnosis of Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, which is a little hard for Valentino to say, so like most people, Val just calls his condition POTS.

Val wasn’t thrilled with there not being a magic cure for POTS, and he absolutely wasn’t thrilled with the fact that he’d have to make lifestyle changes to manage his condition.  Especially compression garments. He hated them and he called them ugly (of course this gave Velvette the idea to create custom compression pieces for him and eventually add compression garments to her fashion line)

Velvette also whipped up a few enchanted anti-nausea teas with ginger and peppermint, amongst a few other little enchanted teas, potions, and salves to help her friend manage some of his more severe symptoms. Val absolutely adores her efforts since she makes everything functional but also accounts for his taste in fashion, scents, and his likes and dislikes for anything he’ll have to ingest.

Vox took over the cooking for the trio to make sure Val was getting the recommended salt intake to help with managing his condition since Val hates salt and often tells the kitchen staff not to salt food at all or to make him a separate, unsalted meal during meal times. Vox claims he’s taken up cooking more because it relieves stress, but really it’s to sneak more salt into the moth demon’s diet without him really noticing.

Much like Vel, Vox also makes something using his own skillset; a symptom tracking app (and while it is mostly for the moth, he does later patent and market across Hell). 

Although he grumbled about it, he did take the doctor’s advice in cutting way down on his alcohol and drug use after his diagnosis to try to help manage symptoms.

So many naps. And since the moth demon hates being alone during bad flare days, he often ropes Vox or sometimes Velvette into watching one of his comfort movies with him, which usually means he lays in them and traps them in cuddle jail since he usually falls asleep during movies in the days he's flaring.

Heat intolerance. Vox had to put a lock on the thermostat since Val constantly tries to turn down the thermostat because he himself overheats pretty easily and somewhat often. He occasionally turns the temp in the tower so much that Vox has woken up in immense pain because he got so cold in the middle of the night that his screen cracked and his wires started to freeze. Now, thanks to a suggestion to Velvette, Val now has a separate heating/cooling system to the rest of the tower to kinda combat that.

Bumps and bruises from falls.

Much like the other Vees, Valentino keeps his diagnosis and struggles with POTS from being public knowledge….. Though he does employ a vast amount of demons with not only his chronic illness, but others as well so he can use them in his spicy movies, often using their various disabilities for fetish content. He got the idea after using his own disability in one of the movies he starred in himself.

Val finds a lot of peace in art when he has a flare up, and often draws when he has to spend the day in bed or during the breaks he needs to take throughout the busier days.

Frustration when fatigue hits and the exhaustion makes it hard for him to hold a pencil.

The robo butler known as Kitty that seems to be at Valentino’s beck and call has been reprogrammed from the sex doll it was originally purchased as to be to a robotic companion that acts as a sort of service animal for him. Complete with the ability to send an alert to Velvette and Vox when a fall or fainting episode occur, being equipped to monitor his vitals and give him warnings when his heart rate increases, and the ability to make a delicious margarita, its pretty easy to see why you so often see the robotic being close behind the moth demon.

Chronically Ill Alastor

Alastor uses his staff as a cane now and again, and every now and again, he might groan or grunt when he sits or bends, causing most to assume the radio demon suffers from back pain, but if asked, Alastor would honestly laugh at the idea of back pain being the thing that people thought might take him down at any point.

He didn't complain about it often and given his line of work, he did his best to hide it, so not many people knew that the infamous radio demon suffers from an injury that causes vocal cord paralysis.

This has been an issue for years and unbeknownst to most, Alastor has been going to therapy and doing exercises to help maintain his voice.

A lot of throat clearing and coughing, choking occasionally.

Alastor is quite insecure about the way he sounds when he talks, often feeling like his voice isn't his own since he can't always control the rasping sounds he makes as he speaks. It's one of the reasons he began using the voice filter on his radio show, and why he keeps the filter on more times than not; it's his voice.

Anger over how his voice sounds and the limitations it comes with.

Depression over the voice he lost. This does lead to a lot of depression naps.

Charlie brings Alastor cough drops and various types of tea often when she notices his persistent coughs or when she thinks he's losing his voice…. He won't admit it, but despite acting disgusted with the kind gesture, he loves the little care packages the princess puts together for him and he does try to relax with a cup of tea when things get particularly bad.

On the days he finds himself struggling the most to speak or breathe, he refuses to leave his room.

Very, very few people know this, but Alastor has actually done some pre recorded shows for his radio station and he plays them on the days he was supposed to be on air but can’t talk or feels his voice isn’t up to par with what he finds acceptable for the show.

Voice therapy…. His doctor has suggested surgery but the deer is deathly afraid of needles and surgery so he's turned that option down multiple times.

Prior to their falling out, Alastor confided in Vox and the TV demon was his only pillar of support through their friendship.

Mute days and vocal rest

Rosie scolding him for straining his voice when he doesn't have to but comforting him when he needs it.

Alastor is mildly terrified of going to the doctor in general, but especially when it comes to anything to do with his voice so Rosie goes with him to doctors appointments (she also holds his hand when he has to get blood work done or anything of that nature, but Alastor will deny that if asked)

Although Vox and Rosie both know about the problems the radio demon has with his voice, Husk is the only one that knows that the problem was brought on by trauma. The hellcat wasn’t supposed to find out, but much like Mimzy mentions, when Alastor has had a bit to drink, he’s a lot more friendly and during a bout of drinking, he overshared a bit with the bartender he staffed.

While Alastor has never been very religious, he prays for his voice to return to what it was before.

Chronically Ill Charlie

Author's note: Hey everyone! I'm back with another installment of the chronically ill hazbin headcanons! Much like my Chronically Ill Angel Dust headcanons, this is lowkey a self serving way to vent about my own messed up headaches, so if these symptoms feel oddly specific or don't seem to make sense together, I totally get it (I've been dealing with it for close to 3 years now and I still understand it). Charlie’s chronic illness began shortly after she began dating Vaggie.

It started slowly. Just a headache here and there, but she had remembered her mom getting migraines from time to time, so she took something that was roughly the equivalent of an adult dose of advil and moved on.

After nearly 8 or 9 months, it became clear that the headaches Charlie was getting weren’t migraines. They didn’t come with a sensitivity to light or sound or even movement, she didn’t get nauseous or vomit, they didn’t come with auras or anything… They just sort of happened.

It would be Vaggie’s idea to start a journal to detail all of Charlie’s headaches so they could try to see if there were any patterns or maybe triggers that they could remove.

Despite the headaches having started out as a minor annoyance that happened maybe a couple of times a week, they would change in frequency and grow more painful as time went on to the point where it seemed like Charlie was getting different types of headaches multiple times a week.

She never really knew when a headache would happen or how long it would last, or how bad it would be. Some days she’d wake up with a throbbing headache that lasted all day, other days she’d have ice pick headaches that seemed to jab her brain for a few moments before disappearing, other days the pain would only be on one side of her head or behind her eyes, and other days she’d feel fine.

Sometimes they were quick, stabbing ice pick headaches that struck out of nowhere, sometimes she’s wake up with an indescribable throbbing in her skull, sometimes these mystery headaches would only be made worse with movement but seemed to almost disappear when she stayed perfectly still, sometimes they made her vision fuzzy or caused dizzy spells. With all these symptoms popping up at random, Charlie calls it a personal hell.

There were so many doctor visits…. But no real answers, with most doctors telling her she was suffering from migraines and telling her rest and pain meds was the way to go.

After doing what most people do when they get sick and looking up her symptoms online, Vaggie would find her girlfriend sobbing in their bedroom because the internet told her she basically had a week to live.

Vaggie watched the slow deterioration of her girlfriend’s health as the unexplained headaches worsened for months at this point, but seeing Charlie this miserable and afraid of what was happening to her was the last straw for her. They went back to the doctors and Vaggie did indeed threaten them until they ran every test imaginable.

When the tests all came back normal, Charlie was pretty discouraged. It had been months of varying amounts of pain, and doctor after doctor poking and prodding her for test after test just to tell her she was fine, but she knew she wasn’t.

In the midst of a break in the headaches that had lasted close to 2 weeks, Charlie came up with her redemption idea.

When she actually founded Hazbin Hotel, Vaggie was worried that the stress of the project would act as a trigger, but in true Charlie fashion, the princess refused to let the headaches permanently stop her from doing anything.

Although Vaggie had been worried, the hotel and her friendships with the others living in it seemed to help tremendously because, while it didn’t stop the pain or make the headaches less frequent, she had a larger support system to lean on when a headache did hit.

 Alastor’s shadow often brings Charlie her medications…. Vaggie doesn’t enjoy this because the shadow seems to just appear at the mention of Charlie having a headache, bottle of pills in hand, as if he had been watching them….

Angel Dust would offer Fat Nuggets as a snuggle buddy when the headaches seemed to take more of a toll on her than normal.

Much to everyone’s surprise, Husk would act quite fatherly when he learned about the headaches. He’d worry and fuss over Charlie, but in a way where it looks like he’s trying to act like he doesn’t care even though everyone knows he cares.

Lucifer would have mad respect for Husk for caring for his daughter like that…. He would also try over-compensating a little when he did come back into the picture.Charlie doesn’t want to tell him when he’s doing too much, especially when she has her more severe headache days… Vaggie will. Though it scared her at first, she’d do anything for Charlie and Lucifer respects her for it.

Whenever Charlie has a particularly bad headache day, Sir Pentious, the gentleman he is, sends his egg bois to help her do tasks that are difficult on high pain days or act as guides to help her to her room when the headaches cause the occasional dizzy spell. They’re actually quite helpful.

Not knowing her all that well and being caught off guard when she found herself alone with the princess when a particularly bad headache left her in tears, Cherri Bomb would go out and buy her a small get well soon teddy. Charlie named him “Boo Bear” and this has become one of her 4 comfort items.

Going into her full demon form uses a lot of energy and often times the strenuous task results in a headache.

During the battle at the hotel and the rebuilding of the hotel, Charlie fought through her headaches, but had a horrible headache flare afterwards.

Although it doesn’t help much, Charlie likes when Vaggie massages her temples.

Chronically Ill Husk [Part 2]

On his bad days, Husk uses a cane. He hates it and complains that it makes him feel old, so he only really uses it on the days he can hardly move on his own. After hearing him complain about the cane making him feel old, Lucifer actually made him a custom cane. Husk was honestly shocked, not only by the fact that the king of hell himself made something for him of all people, but the fact that it was clear how much thought Lucifer put into it. From the functionality of it to the card themed design, it was one of the best things he’d ever received as a gift.

He trained Keekee and Fat Nuggets to open doors and fetch things for him. Angel was extremely confused when Fat Nuggets started bringing him bottles of booze when he seemed stressed, and Charlie and Vaggie now have to deal with Keekee flickering the lights when she wants their attention.

So much joint cracking and popping. Although he sometimes does it to try to relieve some of the pain and stiffness in his joints, sometimes things pop and click involuntarily when he moves, even if it isn’t painful. Vaggie has suggested he maybe try going to a chiropractor multiple times, but Husk is honestly a little scared to let anyone else manipulate his joints. It can be painful enough when he tries to pop something himself and he knows his limits, so he’s lowkey convinced someone else would break something if he let them do it.

Although he doesn’t buy things for himself often, he did invest in some small things to make his life slightly easier for himself. One of his favorites being something similar to a tab buddy that works for cans and bottles.

Knowing about her friend’s poor mobility, Niffty actually often offers to clean his room for him. Husk feels bad about it, and tends to try to pay her but she never accepts.

Because his arthritis severely limits his mobility, Husk arranged his room in a way meant to be completely accessible for him. Niffty hates it because she often can’t reach most things she needs to clean, but she brings a stool and does her best to make sure she puts everything back exactly where it was.

In the spirit of keeping his room as accessible as he can for himself, Husk has a little rolly cart that he keeps things on for days his pain is worse than others. Pain killers, an emergency bottle of booze, various joint braces, heating pads and ice packs, and some easy to open snacks. He rolls the cart around wherever he needs it and it helps a lot to have everything in one easy to reach spot.

The cart was an idea Charlie got from hell’s version of pinterest. She even helped him put it together, and whenever she’s in his room for any reason, she often checks to make sure he isn’t running low on things for it….. She may also occasionally try to swap out the booze for water but Husk continues to add it back when he notices. He’s compromised by letting her add the water bottles to the cart, but he refuses to axe the booze.

When they got together, Angel actually started cleaning his room more and trying to make it accessible for his boyfriend…. Did this happen because Husk took a couple of falls and had severe flare ups after staying the night and having to bend or reach more than he was used to, yes. Did Husk still almost cry when he realized that his boyfriend actually made that type of effort, also yes.

Angel actually took a massage course so he could give Husk massages to help with pain. Husk has found that having an extra set of hands during a massage is wonderful.

He’s used to handling things on his own and he’s still getting used to the idea of being part of the hotel’s little family, so he does grumble and complain, telling everyone that he doesn’t need coddling when they bring him ideas or gadgets meant to aid him or worrying about him when his pain gets worse….. But he actually really appreciates the help and he tries to give back whenever he can.

Sir Pentious often tries to make gadgets to help Husk somehow. Most end up being unhelpful, and in a few cases downright harmful, but he actually made an amazing portable massage device when he found out how hard it could be for the hell cat to save to go to a massage parlor. Husk loves it and he uses it almost daily.

No one really likes being sick, but Husk absolutely hates it and can sometimes come across as a germaphobe with how he avoids things that may get him sick. He’s achy enough already, he doesn’t need a stuffy nose or headaches on top of it and he does not need more aches and pains that tend to come with colds.

Much like avoiding flying because it causes pain flare ups, Husk avoids driving at all costs too.

Despite being in pain 90% of the time, Husk often helps bring in groceries for the hotel, or just generally helping the women with carrying things. He feels its a sort of gentlemanly thing to do, but he always grumbles about it and says “I’m too old for this shit” before doing it. No one ever really asks him to do it, but Charlie thinks its cute in the same way she would find a little old man shaking when pouring juice cute. Vaggie has advised Charlie to never let Husk hear her comparing him to a little old man.

Hello, lovely hellion! I absolutely still do the chronically ill Hazbin series, so ask and you shall receive! I do want to say that this particular condition, I have never had experience with, so I am so sorry if I misrepresented it or if it's not detailed enough. I'm always willing to learn, so if anyone wants to talk about this condition or any others I've discussed or that they want to see in this series, let me know! This being said, Fizziepop presents:

Chronically Ill Sir Pentious

Sir Pentious doesn’t talk about his struggles with most things very often, having been perceived as weak and lesser than by a lot of people in his life and in Hell forcing him to try to build a persona that was to be respected and feared (though he knows most still saw him more as a laughable villain despite his best efforts).... But in his time at the hotel, Pentious would actually find himself letting that persona fall away as he opened up to the group he now considers his family; one of the things he finally felt comfortable enough to be honest with them about being that he suffered from an autoimmune disease called Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

Although he opened up about having an autoimmune disorder, Sir Pentious wouldn’t actually put a name to his diagnosis right away for the simple fact that telling his friends more about the diagnosis would make it more real in a sense and he would be terrified that they might start to treat him differently since he had never seen them interact with anyone with the illness he had.

Opening up about his chronic illness would start slowly, in small waves; he would stop making excuses for the symptoms he experienced, and he would even branch out from only asking his egg bois for help when he was struggling with something, and eventually he would put a name to his condition with very gentle prompting from Charlie.

MS doesn’t really exist in hellborn demons, so Charlie would go bananas researching the condition once she had a name for it so she could do whatever she could to try to help the inventor when he needed it and to make the hotel as accessible as she could.

The egg bois would honestly be really helpful when it comes to helping explain their boss’s condition and answering questions about his symptoms, which would surprise everyone (aside from Pentious himself) since they all kinda assume the egg bois were simple creatures with no brain inside their adorable little shells.

Frank actually has an entire binder about Sir Pentious’ diagnosis of Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis (SPMS), complete with facts and notes about the worst of the reptilian demon’s symptoms, dates of his worst flares and the possible causes of them, and even a little crayon drawn graph of where his baseline of symptoms lies over the years. Again, this shocks everyone but his boss, though Pentious is touched when Frank proudly shows off binder, thankful when the egg boi skips the pages where he’s documented the man’s increased issues with bowel and bladder control over the years.

Keekee and Fat Nuggets would actually comfort the inventor through panic attacks when he experiences some of his scarier flares like the “MS hug”. Charlie would absolutely be pissed about the name for this symptom since it sounds nice, but Sir Pentious would describe it as a constricting feeling around his chest/abdominal area that made him feel like he couldn’t breathe, which then caused him to panic and made it harder to breathe.

MS is something that followed Sir Pentious from the land of the living, and something that he was thrilled about upon his arrival in hell was his lack of feet because it was one less body part he had to worry about going numb, and he no longer tripped over himself when that happened, so he no longer needed a cane…. Unfortunately numbness is still a part of his laundry list of symptoms, just in different areas.

As an inventor, he hates when he has numbness in his hands or arms, but something he hadn’t realized would bother him just as much was numbness and tingling in his hood. It drives him insane and it’s the one thing about being a cobra that he hates

Egg boi naps

The fatigue feels like it's going to kill him some days

Though he isn't the bad boy Niffty loves, with the help of Alastor, she does still make little treats for him and the egg bois when it seems like he's struggling a little more than normal.

Forgetting he’s dead and already in Hell, Pentious also has this fear of choking and dying since he does have issues swallowing sometimes…. Charlie also has this fear since she’s seen it happen over meals. Angel and Husk, while worried, remind them both that even if he did choke to “death”, given the circumstances, he’d just respawn again. It’s not as comforting as the pair think it is, especially since it usually comes with reminders that both men have overdosed on drugs or alcohol multiple times and always pop back up.

Frank and the egg bois revamped his room in the hotel for flares, rounding off the edges to his tables, and strategically placing cushions and pillows around since muscle spasms and balance issues had caused a fall or two. Cherri actually contributed a couple of the pillows that the egg bois have placed around, their pink and bomb shaped and Sir Pentious loves them.

Despite being heartbroken at the fact that spawning in Heaven meant being ripped from his family, he was happy when he realized that after weeks, he hadn’t had a flare despite the stress of the situation…. Will it last? He isn’t sure, but being pain free and being able to feel his body the way he should, it’s been amazing…. Disorienting in a way, but freeing. While he wouldn’t hate it becoming his norm, he told Emily that he would trade it for being with his loved ones down in Hell again.

Chronically Ill Angel Dust

Author's note: I suffer from CFS and I have a few other undiagnosed issues, and as I can feel the effects of my current flare, this headcanon list is rather self-serving.... I kinda wanna make a few more of these for other characters with other various chronic illnesses. Let me know if you have any suggestions! -Fizzie❤️

Angel suffers from CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) believed to be brought on by a mixture of his years of drug abuse wearing on his body, and years of psychological and emotional trauma. He isn’t sure how true that is, but he knows he feels like shit more than he doesn’t and he hates it…. Very few people know about his condition, the list being only 3 people long (Valentino, Charlie, and Husk).

Given the fact that he has a chronic illness and has a job that puts a lot of emotional and physical strain on his body, Angel tries to find little things that make him feel better. One thing that he’s come up with is skin care and long baths.

Naps. So many naps, and so many Fat Nuggets cuddles.

Fat Nuggets acts as a sort of unlicensed service animal/emotional support animal for the spider demon. Angel never really trained the pig to do tasks, but the little creature is eerily good at reading his owner's emotions and learned a few tricks that tend to help him on flare days.

Husk and Charlie are the only two in the entire hotel that know what Angel experiences. Angel told Charlie after a few months when he finally felt like he could trust the princess enough, but Husk found out on accident toward the time their friendship took that awkward first stage of romanticism when Angel broke down after a rather bad flare up of his symptoms left him in tears in his bed one day. Not being able to do much to help his spider companion in the moment, Fat Nuggets did what every good emotional support/service pig would do…. He went to Husk’s room and oinked at the door until the bartender let him in, then  stole his hat and ran to his own room so the man would have to come and find and help his friend.

Charlie always stops by Angel’s room to check on him whenever he skips their group activities, usually bringing him small gifts of things like pain pills, heating pads, and even small stuffed animals, or sometimes staying in his room to sit with him and let him vent about how he was feeling, or just so he didn’t have to be alone.

Husk’s approach to helping Angel usually revolved more around him doing things he knew often worsened some of Angel’s symptoms. Husk tended to help with things like laundry or dishes, or sometimes picking up things like pig feed for Fat Nuggets.

All of the soft blankets. He owns at least 20 or 30  soft and fluffy blankets and dozens of various sized pillows of varying firmnesses that he tries to use for his comfort for different aches and pains.

He has different sized heating pads and ice packs for the same reasons.

His shoulders, elbows, and wrists tend to ache the most, but his hips tend to bother him quite a bit too.

Angel does not know how to use his spoons wisely most of the time and tends to try to do as much as he can when he feels like he has more energy (spoons) than usual, leaving him utterly exhausted after he’s run out.

Valentino takes advantage of some of the spider’s symptoms for more “believable” reactions since he tells Angel that his acting has become stale.

Brain fog is a bitch for this man. The forgetfulness and confusion are usually his friends’ first signs that he isn’t doing the best. When his comebacks become a little dull, Husk usually starts to check in on him, while Charlie starts to check in when she notices Angel losing his words during conversations.

Once, when he was having a particularly bad flare up, a slightly older woman heard him complaining to Fat Nuggets as he walked out of a coffee shop, wincing as he leaned down to give his piggy pal a piggy cup. The woman then scoffed at him, saying that he was too young to be so tired or to know what joint pain really was…. Angel decked her. It worsened his pain, but he felt it was worth it.

Chronically Ill Husk

Arthritis made Husk its bitch when he was in his late 40’s, long before his death. He had been diagnosed with arthritis in his knees, and lower back, and with the pain he was in nearly constantly, he always joked that he was just waiting for the release of death to end the pain… He was absolutely pissed when he woke up in hell, not only a cat (his least favorite animal in existence), but with more chronic pain than he had as a human.

Husk finds that his lower back, and knees still hurt, but so do his hips, his elbows, and in his wings.

Although he was a drunk prior to the arthritis, he started drinking after it started to get bad as a way to cope with pain.

In the beginning, the only one who would know about this would be Alastor (because he would take it upon himself to know everything he could possibly know about the souls he owns), but eventually, Husk having arthritis would become common knowledge among the inhabitants of the hotel.

Charlie would go to great lengths to try to make the hotel and Husk’s job around the hotel as low pressure and as easy for the bartender as she could, even offering him a chair to keep behind the bar for when he needs to sit and constantly buying things she thinks might help…. Most times they don’t help, but he does appreciate the effort.

Sir Pentious would try to make gadgets that would help him around the bar too, or sometimes he would send his egg bois to help out. The inventions are usually hit or miss, and the egg minions coming around…. Well, the thought was just as appreciated as it is annoying.

Husk will admit that Frank does make a good cocktail. Occasionally, on bad days, Husk will leave Frank in charge of the bar with the other egg bois while he takes a nap. It’s never long, maybe 30 minutes or so, but it's a nice little break.

His mobility absolutely sucked.He couldn’t bend very far due to his back pain, and he hates when he has to lift or carry anything  bigger than Fat Nuggets because of the strain it puts on him. It also tends to take him a bit to get up and going in the mornings or after sitting or standing in one position for too long.

His knee occasionally gives out

There's so much joint popping. His joints pop and grind painfully a lot of the time when he moves. Although he hates it, he does find himself popping his joints to try to alleviate pain.

Husk does his best not to fly if he doesn’t absolutely have to. It causes a lot of swelling in the joints throughout his wings, and causes searing pain throughout his wings and back…. He doesn’t like to admit it, so he usually says that he just feels like flying is too much work. Knowing how sore her wings can get after flying for long periods of time, Vaggie keeps pain pills specially sold with the intent of targeting flying related pain on hand, and on the rare occasions she knows Husk will fly or has flown, she gives him a few tablets. These actually do help with pain for a bit, and Husk absolutely loves this effort, but he can’t afford to buy them regularly for himself.

So much stretching.

Leaning too. He tends to find any excuse to lean against things to help support his weight. Tables, chairs, counters, everything he can.

Niffty actually saved up for months to get Husk a massage voucher at the nicest massage parlor in Pentagram City. Despite feeling out of place when he redeemed the voucher, he ended up loving it and it helped with some of the pain so he tries to save up and go every few months when he can afford it.

He uses a cane on the days his pain flares up more than usual. He hates it and complains that it makes him seem old so when the others see him using it, they know he's in an extreme amount of pain.

If you look in his nightstand beside his bed, there's a book of 101 sex positions where he's dog-eared pages and made notes in the margins of things he can do to modify them for less pain during intimacy. And yes, this was a gift from Angel Dust.

When the pain in his wings gets really bad, he sometimes can’t help himself but pull at his feathers, leaving a few small bald patches in his wings. He’s mastered preening in a way that gets his feathers to fall over the patches where he’s yanked the feathers out.

There’s always ice packs and heating pads in his room. And Charlile keeps heating pads in every room in the hotel to make sure there’s always one available at a moments notice if he seems to need one, and Niffty usually goes to collect the ice packs in his room to put them back in the freezer.
