I don't think giving Hiro large, round eyes was intended to make him white; it may have been a stylistic choice by Pixar as manga artists tend to give people this type of face.

I believe the same; it's what gives it it's trademark style, something people can identify as like "hey that's a Disney film" just by looking at the how the characters are drawn. ~Mars
