Sweet dreams are made of these, who am I to disagree? 💁🏻♀️ // Vanilla Mille-Feuille: puff pastry with vanilla bean pastry cream; aud8.80 from Chu Bakery, Highgate. The stunning backdrop is Hyde Park’s autumn colours which is just across the road from the bakery. Being the weekend’s special, I was really glad to see this was still available at around noon on Sunday. I had earlier called on Saturday at 1pm to check if they were available and they had already sold out. Been quite some time since I last visited Chu Bakery and glad to say they’ve maintained their puff pastry standards. The Mille-feuille was flaky and crispy. Love that the vanilla cream wasn’t too sweet but my, was it a creamy indulgence. Seem to have tasted a bit of rum in the cream too - checked with @chubakery on this but they haven’t gotten back to me. Wiki trivia: “The mille-feuille (French pronunciation: [mil fœj], "thousand-leaf"), vanilla slice or custard slice, also known as the Napoleon, is a French pastry whose exact origin is unknown. Its modern form was influenced by improvements made by Marie-Antoine Carême. Traditionally, a mille-feuille is made up of three layers of puff pastry (pâte feuilletée), alternating with two layers of pastry cream (crème pâtissière) The top pastry layer is dusted with confectioner's sugar, and sometimes cocoa, pastry crumbs, or pulverized seeds (e.g. roasted almonds). Alternatively the top is glazed with icing or fondant in alternating white (icing) and brown (chocolate) stripes, and combed.” #chubakery #highgate #bakery #millefeuille #pastry #desserts #french #hydepark #wikitrivia #perthfoodreview (at Chu Bakery)
