So, his dad doesn't think he's gay? Fine. He probably isn't. Though he isn't straight either. He's pretty sure of that.
After things calm down slightly in Beacon Hills (let's face it, it's never really quiet, is it?) Stiles decides to investigate this part of himself.
He knows he likes girls. Obviously. Duh. The Lydia-shaped hole in his heart is more than proof of that. However, a certain werewolf-y godfather to Scott has also taken up residence in all of Stiles' waking thoughts.
Anyone with eyes could see that Derek was stupidly handsome. Danny had seen it. Remembering that day always set off an uncomfortable jealousy in Stiles.
Derek hadn't been into Danny. Hadn't shown an ounce of interest and yet Stiles felt oddly possessive.
Stiles reached for another handful of bar peanuts.
He'd never been the best at dealing with his feelings and his newest coping mechanism was leaving some physical evidence. His jeans were practically painted on and his shirt kept threatening to ride up over the new curve of his belly.
It was embarrassing. No one had even talked to him since he got here. Did he gain that much?
Another sip of his sickly sweet cocktail probably wasn't helping, but it was happy hour and he was feeling indulgently self-pitying.
More peanuts. Another drink. Stiles scanned the room for familiar faces. For anyone interested. But no one would meet his eyes.
He stomped over to one of the low sofas lining the perimeter of the club to try and escape the temptation of the peanuts and let himself sprawl out. It was hopeless, he'd never figure out his sexuality if he couldn't get anyone to even look his way.
One and a half drinks later the sea of club-goers parted to reveal a familiar face.
Derek.
Stiles struggled to sit upright. Derek didn't even glance at him. Just headed straight to the bar, ordered something, then disappeared up the stairs to the left.
There was a second floor but Stiles hadn't bothered to explore it. Most of the action was happening down here. He tracked Derek's movements until a waiter blocked his sight line.
"For you."
They handed him another cocktail.
Did Derek—?
Stiles was up and out of his seat a fast as his drunk state (and sloshing belly) allowed. It was a weird feeling. Mostly filled up on liquid his belly seemed to have almost gained a mind of its own. He pulled down his shirt again though the feeling of cool air just above his waist band persisted.
He really shouldn't talk to Derek like this. He was a mess. Wallowing in self-pity. Drunk. Fat. He would just embarrass himself. Somehow Stiles' legs carried on.
Despite the last dredges of his sober mind insisting he should leave and stop right now, his drunk body took another heavy drag from the frilly straw and revelled in the warm heaviness that washed over him.
Navigating stairs in his state wasn't easy. He was breathing heavy at the top and pulled down his shirt again.
"Derek?" Wow, he sounded drunk.
"What are you doing here?" Derek asked. His ever-present scowl didn't budge.
"I could ask you the same, sourwolf." Stiles punctuated his question with a hiccup.
"It's dangerous to be out alone."
"In case you haven't noticed there are about 200 people crammed on the dance floor downstairs. Plus," another hiccup, "for once we don't have a monster of the week to deal with. So relax, big guy."
"You don't know danger," Derek growled.
Stiles breath hitched.
"Is that—" he cleared his throat, "is that supposed to be intimidating?"
"It's working, isn't it?" Derek turned his head like a dog listening to an interesting sound. "Your heartbeat sped up."
Despite having a werewolf for a best friend, squirming under the gaze of a predator set Stiles on edge. Some age old instinct rearing its head, chanting run, run, run, run.
Another fucked up part of his brain interpreted it as arousal.
Derek's nostrils flared.
"Maybe not fear then."
A smile spread on his face. Wide. Toothy. Nothing like the forced charm Stiles had seen before. His heart rate jack-rabbited up a notch.
His blood ran cold and somehow pooled south at the same time. He pulled his shirt down again. This was stupid. Derek wasn't interested, just making fun of him.
And yet the tension seemed to be rising. Derek stepped forward. Slow enough to give Stiles an out but he felt stuck to the floor.
Then Derek crowded up against him. Really getting close.
Stiles brain felt cotton-candied between fear and arousal.
Derek's hand landed on his stupidly bloated belly and another hiccup ruined the tension. At least for Stiles.
"I should go," he choked out and bolted.
Derek didn't try to stop him.
He downed the rest of his drink, slammed the glass on the bar and rushed to the door.
A wave of nausea and the cold outside air cleared some of the fog from Stiles' brain.
What the fuck was that?!
He looked over his shoulder to check whether Derek was following him. Then kicked himself for even thinking it.
Of course, Derek wouldn't be following him.
He was making up the fact that they had tension. Derek was probably just annoyed to see Stiles there. Nothing was between them.
Stiles took a deep breath. Why was his heart still beating in overdrive?
He checked his back again. The parking lot was deserted.
Too drunk to drive home, Stiles settled on walking home. Of course, the shortcut would run through the preserve, but Derek wouldn't care about that, right? He didn't actually own the land outside of a werewolf-y territorial instinct.
Thick fog rolled between the trees. Stiles stifled a burp. Chugging that last cocktail really wasn't a great idea.
He felt even more bloated now. His shirt definitely wasn't covering his belly anymore. His sides strained under the tension of all the liquid in his belly.
Each step felt slower, heavier. And still he kept an ear out for any unusual sounds. As if he could run away right now.
He could barely even see thirty feet in front of him with the heavy, cold fog around. It was a good thing he knew the path like the back of his hand.
Finally away from prying eyes, Stiles popped the button on his jeans. The zipper slid down on it's own.
Fuck, he was getting fat. Maybe he should take Scott up on the offer to train together.
Stiles had barely registered the cracking of a branch when Derek was already next to him. His hand wrapped around his throat and his claws dangerously close to Stiles' carotid artery.
"You shouldn't run from a wild animal. It sets off their hunting instinct."
The jerk through Stiles' body was instinctive. A hind brain fear reaction trying to save him from the grasp of a predator.
It wouldn't have made a difference.
"Got you."
The claws on Derek's other hand drew across Stiles' belly, catching on the skin-tight fabric.
"I was exactly in your position once, but I'm leaving you a choice. What you're feeling is dumb puppy love. I could ruin your life forever, you're throwing away your chance at a normal life to help a werewolf. Just being in my proximity puts you in danger. If I wanted to I could kill you or force myself on you. I'm giving you a choice. The smart thing would be to walk away right now. What do you want?"
All the close calls on Stiles' life flashed before his eyes. Even just being friends with Scott had put him in mortal danger multiple times and yet walking away was never a serious option.
And yet one question remained in Stiles' mind, "why now?"
"It was easier to resist when you didn't look like fattened prey."
Derek's lips were so close to Stiles' ear that he could feel them moving. What sounded like an insult on paper sent shivers down Stiles' spine. He'd unintentionally turned himself into the perfect werewolf bait.
The hand still on Stiles's belly tightened, Derek's claws bit into the stretched skin of his belly threatening to pierce skin. They retracted before blood was drawn though it seemed to take Derek some effort.
Stiles tried to turn in Derek's embrace but he was stopped.
"Think about it."
"My answer won't change," Stiles insisted and finally Derek let him turn around.
They were pressed together, front to front. For a moment Stiles thought about sucking his belly in though it proved impossible with how bloated he was.
It only seemed to intensify Derek's wild gaze.
It was easy to lean up and press a kiss to Derek's lips. It stayed chaste for a moment before animalistic desire took over.
Stiles couldn't seem to get closer. Even though it was his first kiss instinct took over and made it easy to move. Derek was aggressive, chasing Stiles even now. Nipping and biting when he got the chance.
It was easy to let himself be guided with a heavy hand on his neck, first through the kiss and then back to the parking lot.
"It's dangerous to be out alone," Derek repeated as he held the door of the Camaro for Stiles.
Derek peels out of the parking lot with squealing tires. One hand on Stiles' thigh, his thumb brushing the overhang of Stiles' belly.
They head deeper into the preserve, down the winding dirt road to the Hale house.
