It happened again. It always happened. It was like a part of her routine by now.
Jareth perched on her head despite her protests as she walked, both oblivious to any potentially dangerous activity around them. She was tired, the heavy bird on her head making it exceptionally hard to keep her head up and exhaustion making it hard to keep her eyes open. Her legs felt like noodles as she walked, arms hung loose at her sides. Of course her owl friend looked perfectly fine, peering around curiously at the buildings around them; he was able to nap whenever, something Eddie found herself getting bitter and envious of.
They were lost, wandering alleyways to avoid strange stares and physical contact of any and all kinds, but the confusing network of thing pathways didn’t help alleviate the lack of direction the two shared; Eddie had begun to assume they’d been walking in circles all day.
If anyone were to pass her by she would have failed to notice; running into someone, on the other hand, snapped her back to reality fairly quick.
She gasped, jumping back as if reacting to a jumpscare, pale eyes wide and mouth slightly agape in shock.
“S-sorry!” she cried out, a little too loud, and covered her mouth as she heard the loud echo reverberate back at her. Jareth flapped his wings, claws lightly scraping her scalp and making her wince as he smacked her with his feathers; he obviously did not like the sudden jerk.
