We’ve Been Here Before, Part 2: Vince Lombardi's Greatest Loss
Lee Sifford presents his latest edition of 'We've been here before' as #Eagles get set for #SuperBowl LII
On Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles will play in their seventh NFL championship game — known as the Super Bowl for the past 52 seasons — since 1947. Because this occasion is so rare, it seems appropriate to take a moment to acknowledge the previous six great Eagles teams.

Chuck Bednarik Award
The Bednarik award is given to the top player in college football, usually being won by a dominant defensive lineman or linebacker.
3. Josey Jewell, Iowa, Linebacker: Josey was arguably the most impressive linebacker prospect in the nation this year and if anyone had the privilege of watching him go against Saquon Barkley they would know why. Jewell has had over 120 tackles each year as a starter and showed an impressive ability to make plays behind with 13.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks during the 2017 season while showing impressive ability in coverage. Jewell has already won the award for defensive player for the Big 10 conference and should get the nod as an All-American.
2. Hercules Mata’afa, Washington State, Defensive lineman: Mata’afa has been a nightmare to most players in the Pac-12, showing elite burst off the line and the ability to take over games for the Washington State defense. He has been the main reason that Wazzu has improved defensively over the past 2 season and his ability to make plays behind the line helps get the explosive Cougar offense back onto the field. Mata’afa is used all over for Washington State and can drop back into coverage just as well as he can get into the backfield. Most defensive players on the west coast have issues winning with only 1 winner coming from the Pac-12 since 2009 but Mata’afa has the production to break the streak.
1. Bradley Chubb, NC State, Defensive End: Chubb is one of the most dominant players in college football with 2 seasons of more than 20 tackles for loss and 10 sacks while becoming the most impressive pass rusher during the 2017 season. Chubb has the size, strength and effort to dominate offensive lineman when rushing the passer while having enough strength to hold up against double teams in run defense. Chubb will likely be considered in the 1st round of the NFL draft but his ability to perform on the College Football level will likely get him considered for the Chuck Bednarik Award.

Pros like myself played football – not for money or glory – but for the simplest reason: the love of the game.
