USA Swimming, USADA to press FINA on doping issues

"There are two great concerns we have about the Rio Games."

Chuck Wielgus, USA Swimming Executive Director, is quoted in USA Today about next year’s Rio de Janeiro Olympics, and chances for medals. Track and swimming combined for 53 percent of the US’s medals over the last four Olympics.

"There's always a level of anxiety," said Chuck Wielgus, the executive director of USA Swimming since 1997. "I'd say the level of anxiety is probably higher this time around than any time I've been executive director. But there have never been more opportunities for people to step up and make an impact on the Olympic team."

Bullying Prevention Program Launched by USA Swimming Safe Sport

USA Swimming Safe Sport has launched a new anti-bullying program aimed at helping parents and coaches prevent bullying and address bullying behaviors.

The anti-bullying program provides online training on a variety of bullying topics, as well as resources for swim teams, including a model anti-bullying plan, a peer-to-peer safety plan, and a scenario guide to assist coaches with recognizing bullying behaviors.

“USA Swimming’s first priority is to protect our members. This is a partnership between our national office, clubs, coaches, parents and the athletes,” said USA Swimming Executive Director Chuck Wielgus. “Safe Sport has demonstrated an organization-wide commitment to setting the standard for athlete protection. This anti-bullying course continues to further that commitment by providing valuable tools to reduce the risk of abusive situations.”
