Wearing full armor at the peak of summer heat can be quite the unpleasant experience. However, any discomfort caused by the kit was offset by this amazing unscripted duel I had with a friend (the changing of weapons midway was scripted though). Despite performing decently in this fight, my sub-optimal fitness levels did end up showing as, after the event, my left should ended up strained and hurting for an entire month.

First spar of the year! Mask and helmet just in case. Did some harnisfecthen duel with @chababolog . My shoulders and back are on fire...but damn, we look like a pair of cute dorks. @highlandhema suggested that we go for the traditional dueling rules. 15 clean hit with a poleaxe 25 clean hit with a sword I got a grand total of 15 hits and I'm DED. My shoulders gave out. also, first blood of the year... do you have any favorite weapons or armor?

I have another ask that's specifically about my favorite weapons, so I'll just answer the armor bit for this one.

Now, I love a lot of different kinds of armor, but there are certainly a few that stand out. In terms of pure aesthetics, these sorts of late, very colorful and flamboyant Modo Antiqua armors are phenomenal.

However, I never plan on owning anything like it. If I ever get up enough cash to commission myself a suit of armor, it will be based off of the Churburg s18 armor.

However, something to note. If you look at miniatures and effigies from Italy in this period, men in full armor are almost universally depicted wearing some kind of surcoat over their armor,

which, unfortunately, I have never seen someone wearing a Churburg cuirass incorporate.

All is fair in love and war!

On this short video you can see me and my girlfriend fighting it out on the arena. This was the last day of a four-day event and, as you can see, by that point we were getting VERY tired and clunky.

Here is a photo of Kingulus's early 15th century Italian Churburg armor in the traditional effigy pose. It was surprisingly difficult to get into this pose as the gauntlets doesn't fully bend at a prefect 90 degrees, and the voiders In my arm resisted to get into a fully bend lock in elbow. Now this isn't the fault of the armor, it is just the nature of its protective capability. There are times when you want your armor to limit your range of motion to prevent over extending or locking in. Also, no the visible isn't impaired as much as you may think. The perforated plate that covers the eye shots are less than a cm away from my eye so I can see out from them quite nicely. Breathing and talking is impaired.
