How we took part in ChurchLive at St Thomas Crookes, Sheffield
Last Sunday at St Thomas Crookes (STC) Sheffield we were given the great opportunity to join in with ChurchLive by streaming our 7pm gathering via the Periscope App on Twitter. It was a privilege to be part of this year long project and help to showcase the variety of ‘church’ we have. Live streaming was also something we had never tried before, so we were keen to give it a go.
STC Sheffield is an Anglican Baptist church based in Sheffield. Our vision is simple - our church is a place to meet friends, meet God and live life better. Our church serves a wide variety of people, reflected in our Sunday gatherings. Each week we have 8.30am prayers - a more traditional service, a 9.30am gathering for young families, an 11am gathering with Kids & Youth church and a 7pm gathering, at the heart of which are students and young adults.
By sharing our 7pm gathering we hoped to share a bit of the story of how God is at work in those aged 18-30 in Sheffield. During the live streaming we had great reactions on social media, with people ‘tuning in’ from around the UK, as well as places farther away such as the US.
The evening’s message was from Mark Russell on the story of the lame man healed by Peter and John and highlighted the challenge to us all to “stop for the one”. It was fantastic to see a great response to this message not only within the church, but from the community watching online.
We really enjoyed being part of the project. It was really good fun and encouraging to receive positive responses from around the globe.

@ChurchLive was created as a way of opening up church services to new audiences. It is a great way for people who have never experienced church before to see what church is really like as well as showing people the variety of church services and styles of worship around England.
So far we’ve had people from countries all over the world, including Russia, the US, New Zealand, Spain, Germany and Brazil tuning in.
Could your church get involved in the project? It’s easier than you might think. Email Talitha.proud.churchofengland.org to find out how.
