Knowing a lot about Chuubo's Marvelous Wish-Granting Engine really adds something to the "The Summer Hikaru Died" experience.

I've been thinking about what arcs WBN characters are on, in terms of Chuubo's Marvelous Wish-Granting Engine, for quite some time. This is a bit like the idea of The Hero's Journey, in that there is a sequence of broadly defined events that the character goes through. In Chuubo's there are 8 different kinds of these arcs, each with 5 steps/quests. They've got colors! I think Suvi is solidly on a Knight Arc. It's orange.

A Knight Arc is about figuring out your place in society and taking on that role. I've been assuming that the role Suvi's story would be focused around is Wizard - we do see her grow incredibly in both the practical application of magic as well as her leadership experience. But the role that is challenging Suvi these first arcs is how she can be a Wizard while still being a friend to Ame and Eursulon. At many points in the story she could have tapped out and gone back to being Archmage's Apprentice but she keeps choosing to throw herself back into things with them.

Quest 1: During this quest you're at a kind of aimless place, trying to figure out what you want to be. Suvi is the Archmage Apprentice, but that isn't fully satisfying to her so she jumps at the chance to go out into the world. Suvi reunites with her old friends and things snowball from there. When they cause a big problem in Port Talon she sticks by them, staking her own reputation to protect them: these people are important to her, and she wants to keep them in her life. Quest 2: This quest is about something that gets in the way of being what you want to be. It isn't the story of how you overcome it or eliminate it, but explores the way it affects you. It could be a flaw, or a vice or even something good that just demands too much. For Suvi, this is her loyalty to The Citadel as an institution and Steel as her mother. This struggle is constant, and the heart of Suvi's story, but up through the end of the Conclave she is at her most "The Wizard Sky" and acting as a representative of the Citadel. This quest ends with making a big choice or getting a sign that your life is about to change: Suvi takes the initiative to go after Silver. Quest 3: This quest is about something that tries to change you or challenges your conception of yourself. Up through this last episode is one thing after another hammering at Suvi's view of The Citadel and her place in it. If there was a single thing you could name as what is changing her, I'd say it was getting a close up look at the realities of how The Citadel acts in the rest of the world. This quest ends with a major mistake, fall from grace, change or growth on your part. That might have happened, with Suvi's capture, or we might see something else in the next few episodes. Your arc could end there, or you could continue on to Quest 4 which is about making amends or working on fixing your mistakes.

Helping -1 is an extremely funny Chuubo's skill level to have. Every one around you has problems going on in their lives, and you really want to help! You try your hardest, but it doesn't really ever work out. If you don't actively make things worse, you usually only get a personal sense of satisfaction for trying rather than making a difference. Maybe next time!
