I have been thinking a lot about the materiality of cardboard. We all know what cardboard is, and use it in our everyday lives. We are attached to it, but have so little connection to it.

By mimicking nature, rather than copying it, my sculptures explore the relationship between the processed banal and our connection with the natural world. My pieces are designed to evoke feelings contrary to those normally associated with the materials from which they are made.

I’ve been doing a lot of research on the body, and the limits of the mind. The mind doesn’t just want to store information, it also wants to get meaning out of that information. We create our own meaning from memories. If you remember too much, you will make no sense of the world.  The act of forgetting is crucial to create preciousness.

I want to create an atmosphere, and the one idea I keep coming back to is ‘magnitude of presence’. What I’m trying to create is undefinable, an idea/feeling of containment...? I keep trying to put meaning onto what I’m making, and the truth is, the only way to figure out what I’m making is to make it.
