New tech turns your arm into a smartphone screen
Browsing your phone while also taking a relaxing bubble bath is not something most people do – not unless you’re OK with the possibility of dropping your expensive device into a pool of water that will, upon impact, render it useless. But the future of technology offers a few solutions to this problem – one such solution is the technology of Cicret.
A waterproof bracelet, one flick of the wrist turns your bare arm into a screen projected from the pico-projector on the strap. Using eight long range proximity sensors, Cicret allows you to use the projected interface on your arm like you would use a regular screen on a phone. Your smartphone needs to be nearby, but doesn’t need to be in hand to use. Answering phone calls and turning on the speakerphone makes talking hands-free. Playing games, using your phones GPS system, sending a text message or browsing the internet and social media is all possible, turning the smartphone into just a piece of hardware that streams its interface to Cicret.
With skin technologies being the next frontier of technology, this is a huge innovation that could change the way we interact with our mobile phones. If all we need is a device to stream to the wearable screen, this could cut down on the size of a smartphone, even getting rid of the screen altogether. With a technology like Cicret, smartphones could become small wearable or implantable devices. After all, without a screen all a smartphone needs is a microphone and speaker for phone calls. This change in size could make it harder to lose, and completely change the way in which we interact with our mobile devices. While the technology is not exactly ready and on the market, it will be very soon. For more information on Cicret, check out their website.
