Hell has snow, Davoth fight and the End of the World doesn’t always have to go in flame

This concept art hit me right there in the feelies but for a different reason, because some time ago I was doing my annual rewatching of Kill Bill and like any sane person would do I made it about my current hyperfixation.

So yeah either great minds think alike or I'm not completely delusional, I am now fully invested in this small headcanon because we all have the right to reimagine Davoth fight in our heads. And to me it should happen in snow just like how The Bride fought Oren.

Every time someone talk about Dav like he's just another super evil stereotype whom the Slayer drags., an angel face-dives into concrete out of frustration. Is he an irredeemable antagonist of the story? Of course. But can we stop flattening him like he is not created specifically to mirror the Doom Slayer by looking exactly like him and just like the Slayer, a Primeval/Protector with an undying love for his humans? He was not given much time to flesh out the tragedy but just look at how he ends. Out of everyone the Slayer fought, everyone ended up begging, cursing, running away or screaming as the Slayer brutalizes them BUT Davoth did none of those. He picked up his sword, thought about his chances, threw it away and accepted his death with a warrior's honour. On the OTHER HAND, THE DOOM Slayer, when he went to finish the job, he removed his helmet for Davoth. That's taking off your hat to salute a respectable opponent.

Yes. I think Davoth's entire evil plot was an elaborated suicide from the very beginning.

If you look into the codices, he used to be such a wonderful being. Someone who walks into the void and life sprawls from his feet. The world had no meaning nor purpose until Davoth gave it one. He created Jekkad, made places called "Pleasure Lake" and "Adonite Garden", he only has one simple wish and it's all about his people have their happily ever after - eliminate death, and then everything would be perfect. There is a certain childlike wonder and innocence to it.

I believe Davoth hated Hell no less than the Slayer. And demons feared him no less than they feared the Slayer. To him, Hell is not his realm and demons are not his people, they are but means to an end. When Jekkad's corruption is inevitable, Davoth desperately gathered the remaining humans into the city of Immora and guarded it with every means possible from the rest of Hell, then he commanded demons to invade other worlds so all the Hell essence could flow into the city to keep his people alive and from turning into demons. As we see in TAG2 even after eons being the centre of Hell, the Immoran are just regular living, kind of weak human soldiers. We don't know their fate but probably not gonna be pretty after Immora is sieged. Demons are not known for caring of the weak and Davoth is not there to keep them at bay anymore.

Despite all his resentment and hatred and feeling of abandonment by the world that forgot its creator, Davoth still loved this world, because he made it. The entire fight was a way to prove a point, or rather, Davoth was giving the Slayer a chance to prove a point to him. That's why he said "Show me your purpose". Davoth said he will "unmake" everything starting with the Slayer himself, instead of what we assumed at the beginning that he will choose to "rule all" if he wins. But what would be for Davoth then if he were to win? Davoth has lost his power, he cannot recreate Jekkad and even if he did, it might turn into Hell again. He will end up sitting in the void, alone, exactly what he feared the most and what led him down the road in search of immortality in the first place.

I don't think that's a fate Davoth wanted. So instead, he was telling the Slayer to show him that Yes. My will of protecting this world despite how it has turned against me over and over is still stronger than your will of destroying it because you don't find it worthy of existing with its treachery and ugliness. And in fact, he is telling the Slayer to show him in the best way possible. Davoth is first a warrior then a god, conflict is the fuel of creation and the best way to worship him. He knows the Slayer is coming for him because he planned this, and wouldn't it just be the last thing on his bucketlist. Maybe, when Davoth asked the Slayer if he had anything to say to him before ending his existence, he wanted to hear from the Slayer that it was all worth it, that the world would be better without him or that HE will keep it safe. But the Slayer would not give him that closure. He wouldn't spare one for himself.

In a way, they understand each other better than everyone else, neither will back down and both are vengeful and furious and have lost all they had ever loved. Also just remember that the Slayer wanted to die as well, just so his suffering could end, and after killing Davoth, he could finally rest.

I think while it is very sad, the ending of TAG2 is exactly what the Slayer would have wanted.

But how would it happen if I were to envision it? First it should happen in snow. Immora is the only uncorrupted part of Hell so it may be cold, quiet and serene. Blood looks nicer on the new, soft snow and the cold may slow the blood loss, extending their fight as grueling as possible. If Davoth were to win, he will make the entire universe snow until there is nothing left alive.

And Davoth would turn into a dragon.

Not some majestic, all sinew and strength dragon like Serrat but a skeleton of a dragon, with charred bones and a glowing beating heart in its ribcage. It's so exposed, there's practically nothing left of him and yet he still moves and his body heat melts the snow around him. The Slayer fights the dragon, dances with it, trying to get past its defence and stab that beating heart, in a way admiring each other's skill and bloodlust but the more they fight the more it seems that he's putting this thing out of its misery. And when the dragon finally falls, not with a furious roar that can tear a new one into reality, It lays its head down at the Slayer's feet, and snow started to cover its body. For a brief moment they both found peace.

Sejanus waited for a few moments before he tried again, “Coryo, what happened-“

“Sejanus: bedroom. Now,” Coryo cut him off brusquely as he stood up from the couch and stalked towards the hallway.

Whatever had happened, Coriolanus was obviously not in the mood to talk about it.

“Sex first, talk after?” Sejanus asked as he shut the door behind him and turned the lock.

Coriolanus sighed as he unbuttoned his shirt. “Fine.”

Even with therapy, Coryo’s default mechanism for dealing with emotions was sex, and Sejanus always had to remind him that they would still have to talk about it afterward.

“What do you want?” Sejanus asked as he reached behind himself to pull his shirt off, letting it fall to the floor as he crossed the bedroom.

“To not think,” Coryo replied. “I didn’t prep myself though. Just, something rough.”

Sejanus tilted his head thoughtfully before he kissed him, softly at first; when Coryo huffed in frustration, he slipped his tongue in, taking his time as he leaned Coryo back until he hit the bedframe and fell backward onto the bed. Coryo felt Sejanus’ fingers wrap and press around his throat as the other gripped his hair, and he moaned into Sejanus’ mouth.

Yes.

Sejanus was good at making Coryo not think.
