“Cid Reyes stands as a remarkable figure in Filipino artistry, expertly navigating both the roles of an artist and an art critic.” Meet the artists of ABSTRACTIONS: Cid Reyes’ talent traces back to 1969 when he held his inaugural exhibition at the Print Gallery, under the guidance of artist Joy Dayrit. This was swiftly succeeded by another exhibition just a year later at F. Sionil Jose's Solidaridad Galleries. In 1972, before departing for Italy to pursue a study grant at the Accademia di Belli Arti in Rome, Reyes showcased his artistry at the Hyatt Hotel. His foray into art criticism began to flourish when he achieved the Grand Prize in an art criticism competition organized by the AAP (Art Association of the Philippines). However, it was with the publication of his groundbreaking book titled "Conversations on Philippine Art," a collection of insightful interviews, that Reyes firmly established his reputation in the field.
