Refueling hose from USS KASKASKIA (AO-27) to USS MASSACHUSETTS (BB-59) during a storm at sea.
"The hose was suspended from a derrick on the tanker and across on lines passed between the two vessels. It was looped to prevent it dragging in the water. At the center right another hose is ready to be passed. The turbulence of the water was caused by the ships operating closely together which made precise stationkeeping essential."
Photographed on October 17, 1944.
