LawLu Story Idea 32 (LawLu Week Day 9)
R is for Remember Me? AU. (Slightly reminiscent of Cinderella.) Ten years ago Prince Trafalgar Law was exploring the magic forest near his family’s castle when he heard the sound of a scuffle and a cry for help. He hurried towards the noise until he came upon the cruel scene. Two humans, probably his own countrymen, were kicking and punching a small fairy and the sapling he was trying to protect.
Fairies are magical creatures whose height is typically a little shorter than the average human, with pointed ears and various magical powers. When a fairy is born they plant a seed into the ground which becomes linked to the fairy’s soul and magical ability. Harming the plant hurts the fairy and their ability to perform magic. Even more importantly, this plant is given to the person the fairy loves and trusts, which is the fairy equivalent to getting married, so this plant is also treasured as an important gift to give to their future love. Fairies tend to stay away from humans, who often try to force fairies to perform magic for them or sell them as slaves to corrupt nobles (that got dark). It is highly unusual for a human to have a relationship with a fairy, much less get married to one (forshadowing, obviously).
With his knowledge of fairies, Law deduced that the plant being protected from abuse is this fairy’s soul-plant(?) and he became worried for the fairy’s health seeing how many of the blooms had already wilted and how much blood was flowing from the fairy’s small body. Filled with rage and the need to save the innocent fairy-boy from further harm, Law used his magical ability (which he was still getting used to using, being only 10) to punch the bullies and teleport them back into town. He then treated the young fairy’s injuries and waited for him to wake up (for he had fainted from relief once his enemies were distracted). Once Law noticed the boy had woken, Law briefly introduced himself and reported that the cruel boys from before had been punished and would hopefully never bother the fairy again. After learning the other’s name, Luffy, Law headed back to his castle.
Years passed, but he occasionally thought about the fairy he saved that day, especially the bright, relieved smile he had been given. Law did not know that that same fairy loved to follow him around, occasionally leaving him gifts. After the incident took place Luffy’s two brothers became extremely protective and forbid him from interacting with humans until he was strong enough to protect himself. So Luffy took care to remain hidden and left gifts instead of talking to Law like he wanted to. After a few years had passed Luffy become aware of the depth of his affections for Law, he started leaving him some of the blossoms from his soul-plant, a Yoshino Cherry tree, as a kind of courting gift. When a royal ball was held to help the Crown Prince Law find a bride Luffy finally couldn’t contain himself any longer and planned to sneak into the ball disguised as a human with the help of his witch friend, Robin.
While the ball is being planned Law secretly hopes he finds someone whose smile is as bright and innocent as the fairy he saved all those years ago. At the ball he quickly finds himself becoming bored, encountering only those that want him for political of monetary gain, until he is approached by a cheerful, raven haired man, whose smile seems oddly familiar. He is confused when he is asked “Do you remember me?” and, unable to hold back his curiosity, he asks the youth to dance with him. Time quickly slips by, one dance becoming three, becoming five. Soon the clocks begin chiming midnight and the mysterious young man who had stolen Laws heart sprints away, leaving only a few cherry blossoms behind. Recognizing the cherry blossoms to be the same ones that had started appearing a few years ago, Law proceeds to travel through the kingdom in search of the fairy whose soul tree the blossoms belong to. After many false claims, Law decides to revisit the sight where he saved Luffy where he finds a magnificent Yoshino Cherry tree and, within the branches, the object of his affections. When Luffy is safely in Law’s arms once more he asks, once again, “Do you remember me?” And Law replies, “I could never forget”.
This was going to be a reincarnation story, with one of them being immortal (probably Law) and the other constantly reincarnating, but I liked this idea better. In other news, I am probably going to interrupt my catching up on LawLu Week to write an idea to celebrate having 57 followers! I was going to try to do it once I reached 50, but I was being overwhelmed by LawLu Week and people keep deciding to follow me for some reason. Thank you everyone! I have some ideas on hand, but if anyone has any suggestions, I would be happy to oblige.
