The worst, most asinine take I see perpetuating the subnautica community is "unknown worlds needs to do something interesting with the void". That's like saying any other game needs to put someone more interesting in the invisible boundary surrounding the edges of the map. Why? Why would they do that? They don't want you there. Putting something interesting would be extremely counter productive.
The void isn't like some special biome that's meant to have significance. It's the end of the playable area beyond which there is nothing to do. The game does not want you going into the void. They just take leviathans from elsewhere in the world and plop them in there specifically so the void isn't interesting by accident. Just a big monster you've probably seen before by now to chase you back into where the game is, go away, there's nothing for you here.
And it's such an unlikely ridiculous take. You only see subnautica fans saying this for some reason. Like...why the hell are subnautica fans so distinct in their utter lack of knowledge on game design yet simultaneous extreme confidence in thinking they know more than the UW devs. Despite the UW devs having decades of experience that go back to the fucking half-life 1 gold source days. It's cool that they put a little more effort into their world boundary than most games because the unique setting of their game enables them to have some fun with it, but genuinely I'm beginning to wish they did just have an invisible wall. Then subnautica fans might be a little less frustrating...
