each one was picked specifically because they had something interesting to bring to the table in regards to their power, background, or role in the team, and can send the story veering into very different ways.

Base ideas about each character's supposed role under the cut:

Sooraya: uses her power to infiltrate the Sparrow Academy. Combats the Guardians of Hotel Oblivion by flooding their bodies with sand and forcing the bugs out. X-Men status is important as she has experience with a system similar to the Umbrella/Sparrow Academies.

Victor: Drawing from places with history means that after Klaus points out the Hotel Obsidian, he's the one to notice something up with it and the White Buffalo Suite, and encourages the rest of the team to stick around it.

David: First to realize that Reginald is an alien. Also uses his powers to copy off knowledge on how to work the Reset Machine. Can commiserate over the others about wanting to retire, as he's been doing this longer than the rest of the Champions.

Kareem: Set up as a competitor to Diego, since he's naturally good at knives and isn't changing their trajectory by himself. Also goes a bit Conspiracy Detective Mode for a bit.

Cindy: her Silk-sense precognition has her heavily mistrusting Hargreeves and Grace, as well as the Academy building entirely. The kugel-waves also mess with her ability to wallcrawl.
