for those unaware today india experienced one of its biggest protests in half a decade. there were protests all over the nation for various causes but the major one was in delhi. all we asked for was the resignation of the education minister because he's failed the students of this nation time & time again. but we were met with brutality, the police had barricaded the main site of protest (jantar mantar). metro stations were shutdown, the public was restrained from reaching the protest site and all the adjoining areas had signal jammers to make sure the crowd had no access to constant updates. they had us blocked from all the sides. they were lathi (baton) charging students from one side & releasing tear gas from the other. you couldn't walk 100 m on streets without having a tear gas shell thrown at you. there were many students, women & kids bleeding — some from their head. some couldn't walk anymore. the police had removed their nameplates & acted with full impunity to resort to unprecedented levels of violence. they were pelting stones at us, beating up people for no reason, forcefully detaining them and attacking us constantly with tear gas & rubber bullets. they wouldn't let you exit either. the crowd was peaceful & looking out for each other yet they were met with violence. i made a friend who was all alone & she asked to join me & my friend because a policeman wouldn't leave her alone. he constantly prodded her for personal info, invited her back to the jeep saying they have food there, wouldn't stop following her around. you couldn't call or ask anyone for help, we were left to fend for ourselves & be on a constant lookout if you did not want to be beaten up to death by police. all for what? asking a resignation? shame on this country.
Actually, on the note of Eridians being natural multitaskers (capable of both fully engaged conversations and complex tasks simultaneously), while humans are... Not Like That, I think the human habit of going on "autopilot" would also be totally foreign to them.
Rocky is having a conversation with Grace while he's furiously typing at the computer, going "Uh huh. Mm. Yeah." every time Rocky pauses. What a good listener Grace is today, Rocky thinks happily! No arguing, how unusual!
Then he tries to bring the topic back up later and Grace has NO IDEA what he's talking about.
"Grace agreed when Rocky said this meeting was at a good time!"
"What?! No I didn't, you literally never talked to me about this!"
"ROCKY DID. THREE HOURS AGO. EARTH HOURS. GRACE MADE AGREEABLE HUMAN NOISES AND SAID YEAH. ROCKY OKAYED MEETING WITH GRACE PERMISSION. GRACE SETTING ROCKY UP, QUESTION?"
Rocky briefly thinks maybe human memories ARE that bad — but no, Grace has never forgotten a conversation they've had in such a short timeframe before.
He is NOT happy to learn that humans are capable of certain pre-programmed responses that we can just... automatically do when our brains are elsewhere.
What do you MEAN you can fake an entire conversation without absorbing any of it? How does that even work? Why?? GRACE DIDN'T EVEN COMPREHEND WHAT ROCKY WAS SAYING. HOW can Grace give such convincing responses???? And JUST TO TRICK ROCKY INTO THINKING HE WAS LISTENING????!??!? FOR WHAT BENEFIT??????????????? WHY WOULD HUMANS EVOLVE THIS??!!??!!!!!
It sends him into a brief rage of demanding to know why human brains can't just function completely consciously on several levels "LIKE NORMAL," before begrudgingly admitting at least it's not as fucking creepy as sleeptalking.
was explaining dcst nanami brothers drama to a friend who's a major blue lock fan (i like it too but she was the one to get me into it), and at some point she was like "i keep getting distracted by the way the older one is named sai" (referring to itoshi sae from bllk)
and it's like,,, older brother. immensely talented. ran away to another country. really clingy younger brothers who are talented in their own right. would rather die than spend time w said younger brother. yeah...
i think we can make a crossover of this. there's potential. they have opposing brother issues the way itoshi was always having to look out for rin, but nanami never quite saw ryuusui as his brother. and both of them only feeling seen for their talent. then there's ppl back home encouraging itoshi to become a striker, but him adjusting his dream when in the wider world to instead set his sights on being a midfielder, contrasted with nanami's dream of becoming a video game designer being suppressed at home and only becoming achievable by moving abroad.
wait as i type this out i realize the fic title could be an "i before e, except before c" grammar rule joke. that is also a definitive plus.
the eternal paradox of writing assassination classroom fanfic is that the very thesis of the series is that being an assassin really isn't good for you and professional killers are cast outs from society who would be happier healing themselves and not murdering ppl.
On the other hand: assassins are cool. So. You know. Tough balance to strike.
i made this post bc i was working on my first ever post-canon assclass fic (still in progress 😭😭), so most of my perspective DID come from reading other fics.
a lot of these fics involve crossovers (guilty without shame), esp with bnha. and it's no big deal there bc,,, there are already violent child soldiers normalized there, so the writers can just. ignore the main theme of the series. very common in general too ig. but i think it's kind of a waste?
this conflict of "being an assassin is bad" vs "it makes them feel strong/brave" will probably follow these kids forever, so there's room to keep it going for a while later
im winding assclass with a sports/slice-of-life anime, so it's more loyal to the actual environment 3E would be going into post-canon.
what i ended up going with was the ministry of defense offering 3E graduates a training program while they were going to high school, to rework them into special ops agents. the idea is that their job wouldn't actually be murder anymore,,, but it's heavily implied that that'll be part of it.
the logic on the government's side (bc it's the gov facilitating all this) is that they spent more than a trillion yen on that fucking 3E program and the world still being intact is all well and good but the assets are still here, so... free real estate.
some joined, some didn't, a few (specifically the demolitionist with a strict family) just went into "freelance work" using the assassin connections they built in 3E. but they all stay on good terms regardless.
All of them are individuals with diverse opinions and motives. maybe some are not making the best decisions, and they might recognize that. but ofc they're going to still be scared, and lost, or acting out. koro-sensei can't actually fix them. just set them up for a better shot.
sorry for going on a whole rant, ive just thought about it a lot.

i love the phrase "which could mean nothing" i think its my favorite thing to come out of the internet ever i love saying it. it could mean nothing but we all know better. we know the truth.
queer rep goes thru these cycles where every couple of years lgbt people are like "we get no rep in media and the representation we do get is way too sanitized and it feels so fake and flat. wheres the queer characters that are messy and flawed and REAL??"
then someone gets brave and makes a character who is a real bastard and makes all the wrong choices and is maybe even malicious at times and they make this character explicitly queer. and then fans are like "this is what you think of us?? worst representation ever" and the creator gets absolutely lambasted, ESPECIALLY if theyre queer themselves
then everyone else sees this and either thinks its too risky to include a queer character, or wants to make sure they're only doing the good and nice representation with no flaws or mistakes

Always remember that the EU did a study in 2013 about the effects of piracy on media publishers and found that there is no correlation between piracy and sales! (And then they tried to hide that study bc that's not the result they wanted)
So piracy is at worst not even a problem, and at best it's free advertisement.
