hi angels 🫶🏻
As a few of you know I was brutally and violently assaulted on nov 7. was left severely concussed and injured on the ground in a parking garage 3 hours from my home with no money no car not even a phone charger and no way to get home. It was so evil, unprovoked in all respects and happened out of nowhere. It was at least twenty punches and thirty kicks to my head neck and face and countless more to my body. initially refused an ambulance for a few hours bc i knew it would be expensive but things were getting worse and it was necessary. As more time passed i noticed more injuries and head trauma isn’t something to mess around with so I bit the bullet and got an ambulance.
This whole nightmare and the aftermath of it has been nothing short of horrific and devastating. I wouldn’t wish what happened to me on anyone. And this was no stranger. It was somebody I have known for fourteen years. someone I considered a friend, someone I loved and felt safe around. very traumatized to say the least kinda destroyed mentally and spiritually still not healed all the way physically. I have constant headaches, tinnitus, fatigue, confusion and memory loss. still have trouble sleeping because I force myself awake so I don’t have to relive it in my dreams bc they can be very vivid. I still can’t be around most people because my nervous system screams at me that I’m not safe and that it is going to happen again

the morning had been slow. some clients came by to return vhs’ in the returning area outside the store, the new releases had to be restocked frecuently, there werent’t much snacks left so you had to put an order for some boxes. you were glad today was slowl. your week had been rough enough.
first, your mother found out your father cheated with every woman that crossed his path. she kicked him out, and now you had to help him move out, all while you’re in the look for an apartment to move out alone, and in need of a roommate to split the taxes fifty-fifty.
and it was only wednesday.
safe to say your mood lit up notably when ellie walked through the glass doors of the store, resisting the urge to run to her arms and let her hold you for the rest of the week. instead, your body relaxed a little, shoulders slumping forward as your elbows leaned against the counter.
“hi els.” you waved with a little smile, a faint blush spreading through your cheeks as she walked to the counter.
ellie walked around the counter, appearing behind you to put her arm around your shoulders and press a soft kiss on your hair, than another on your temple and finally one on your cheek, smiling against the flushed skin.
“hi pretty thing, how you doin’?,” she murmured with a low sigh, breathing in the smell of your hair, your perfume and you basicaly. “thought i’d drop by once the arcade emptied a bit and jesse could handle the costumers himself.”
your body leaned aginst ellie’s immediately the second you felt her arms around you, giggling like a little kid at her kisses, loose strands of her hair tickling you.
“oh, i’m not doing much today. had some clients return tapes but i already rewinded and placed them back in their section. how ‘bout you?” you looked up at her from where your head rested on her shoulders, lashes fluttering slightly at the sight of her.
“eh, quite the same. a group of teenagers came in asking for a new game but we don’t have it yet. i think it’s a nintendo game, probably a mario one.” ellie shrugged, holding you just a little tighter.
“but i didn’t came here to talk about nintendo and teenagers, obviously. ‘m looking for a movie to watch with joel, tommy and maria. they’re staying with us for some days since their house is being remodeled.” ellie unwillingly let go of you, walking over to the shelves in the back of the store.
she claims that is were the best movies were, probably because it was the varied films area, but you always told her it was ridiculous and that is just her good taste in movies.
“’k, tell if you need anything.” you said softly, earning a thumbs up from her as she walked backward.
the small bells above the door jingled, announcing the entrance of someone everytime. a middle-aged man closed the door behind him; his expression seemed grumpy.
oh no. these clients are hard ones.
“hello, good morning. welcome to retro rewind, my name is lottie and i’ll be helping you today.” you smiled and turned towards him, suddenly feeling too enthusiastic. maybe because of ellie.
“i’m just buying a movie, no need for presentations.” the man grumbled walking straight to the adult movies section. you gave him a nod, swallowing your smile and looking down.
he approached the counter short after, three movies in hand. “i have this tape to return.” he placed one of the tapes closer to your side behind the counter.
“okay, let me scan it and then i can charge you those two tapes.” you took the returned tape, standing and walking towards the scanner by the returning area.
the screen showed a warning, the word ‘late’ in capital letters popping up. you grimaced internaly, knowing this would be a hard costumer. walking back to the counter you prepared for what was coming.
“may i get your name, sir?” you asked clearing your throat, sitting back in the high chair. your heart was racing while scanning the tapes, as yet another warning popped up on the screen.
“why would you want my name? ‘m just buying a couple movies.” he crossed his arms, leaning his elbows on the counter and looking down at you, slightly hovering over.
“well i need a name to keep track on the movies bought and returned in case something goes wrong, which is the case.” you almost whispered the last part, clutching your notepad on your hands.
“you returned the tape late. the maximum number of days to return a tape is three, you were suppossed to return it last friday. so you’re five days late.” you started to list all the inconveniences, feeling the man’s eyes boring holes through you. “and, you once returned a broken vhs tape, so i must charge you that as well. my co-worker must not have known about the debt, because you returned the broken tape three months ago.”
your hands were starting to shake. you never liked telling the costumers they owed something, especially if broken vhs’ were involved. people were usually nice, but you knew this wasn’t the case.
“and how much would that be?” his voice was hoarse, almost as if daring you to speak.
“uh– well– the inicial cost of a broken tape is three dollars, but each passing month adds four dollars to the original cost, s– so the broken tape is fifteen dollars. for the late return it’s two dollars. and then the tapes you want to buy are fifteen and twenty-four dollars.”
as you spoke you wrote down the numbers on a calculator, the result making your heart miss quite a few beats. “your total is fifty-six dollars, sir.”
the man stood still, looking at the small screen of the calculator like it owed something to him. thruth is, he is the one that owed money. he ran a hand down his face. you could sense his blood boiling.
one of his large hands reached for one of the tapes, the other inching closer to another tape painfully slow. you couldn’t exactly read his expression.
“sir you can’t ta–”
ploc!
ellie’s head perked up, putting the vhs she had on her hand back on the shelf so quickly it almost fell from her hand.
the sound of her rushed footsteps couldn’t reach your ears, a quiet, high pitched ringing vibrating in the back of your head.
another vhs hit you on the face, the second time harder than the first. you were brought back to your senses, turning your face away as the pain took over, eyes filling with tears.
you felt blood slowly tricking down your nose, the metalic taste sticking to your tongue and your clothes getting stained. you tried covering your nose but didn’t help, the liquid passing through your fingers.
the man kept screaming at you, something about that it was ridiculous to charge for things like that, of the prices being to high, insulting the store and the staff—which is only your boss, barry and you—and many other things you couldn’t make out.
“are you out of your fucking mind?!” ellie shouted pushing the man away, not caring how old he could be or whatever made him react like this. she just knew you hadn’t done anything bad.
“what is your fucking problem man?! why would you throw a vhs at her?!” she was gone. pushing the man almost tackling him, trying to make him go and also dodging the punches.
the screaming was so loud you could feel yourself slipping away, your free hand grabbing onto the edge of the surface to stand up from the chair. you heard the faint jingle of the door again, but didn’t knew what was happening.
ellie pushed the man off once again, the conflict catching the attention of a group of police officers that patrolled the entrance of the outdoor mall. ellie dodged another punch that was thrown at her, barely, but it was enough for the officers.
“calm down mate.” one of the officers told the man while dragged him away from ellie, the brittish accent sounding intimidating.
"she tried to charge me fifty-six dollars for four stupid movies!" the man shouted as he was pinned against a wall.
"seems more than that to me." the officer pulled his hands behind his back, handcuffing him.
another officer grabbed ellie from behind, making her squirm away from his grasp. “let go of me, i did nothing! let me go!” she freed herself, running back inside.
she saw you hunched over the front counter, gripping onto the surface so tight your knuckles turned white. there was a trace of bloody fingers in the open page of your notepad were your hand once rested.
she ran to your side not caring about the two police officers trailing behind her. dropping to her knees beside you she shifted your body to lean against hers, your head dropping to her shoulder.
“i’m fine, i’m fine..” you mumbled closing your eyes, the sight of so much blood coming from you and the taste it left on your throat everytime you swallowed disgusting you.
“you’re not fine baby.” ellie whispered taking your face in her hands, lowering herself to the floor with you between her legs. “’m gonna kill that bastard.” she muttered.
“hey, look at me sunshine, over here. let me take a look i just wanna help.” she turned your face towards her, chest heaving with every breath she took, both from the adrenaline of the moment and her huge concern for you.
“i’m calling an ambulance.” one of the officers said, the other approaching with a cloth he had in his pocket. you whimpered at the preassure on your nose, squeezing ellie a little tighter.
the ambulance arrived after thirteen minutes, in which the bleeding had stopped a bit and dark blue and purple bruises had formed on your face.
ellie held you the entire time, answering the questions that were meant for you since you couldn’t even shake your head without feeling dizzy.
she helped you get inside the ambulance, aganst your will, since you didn’t want to go out of the store knowing everyone would look at you. it took her long minutes to finally make you walk out head so low she knew your neck would hurt in an hour.
“hello honey, i’m gabriela. could you tell me your name?” the paramedic asked in a soft voice once you sat inside the ambulance, shining a flashlight in both of your eyes.
ellie held your head in place, her hands pushing strands of hair away from your face as you spoke with the paramedic.
“l– lottie..” you tried your best to sound clear, closing your eyes at the light of the flashlight.
“alright lottie. we’re gonna work on that bloody nose, okay? then we’ll check if your head is alright along with your bruises.” your heart raced even faster, the thought of going to a hospital frightening you.
“ellie.. i don’t wanna go to the hospital. i– i don’t like it there, i don’t–” you chocked on your blood and tears, gripping ellie as tight as you can.
“if you don’t want to go we’re not gonna go, did you hear me baby? we’re gonna stay right here and then we’ll go home.” her voice was shooting, helping to calm down your nerves.
“you’ll be fine. i’m not going anywhere, i’ll stay right here with you okay? i’ll stay right here.” you could only nod, putting all your weight on her.

Sri Lanka was able to launch the nation's first national emergency service—equivalent to our 911 or Britain's 999.
"In a gesture of goodwill and neighborliness, Indian officials transferred 88 ambulances to Sri Lanka counterparts back in 2016.
Now, ten years on, this gift has turned out to be a lifesaving one for 1.5 million Sri Lankans who have ridden and received urgent care in the back of those ambulances and the ones added to the fleet in the following years.
At the time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed over the ambulances and Sri Lanka was able to launch the nation’s first national emergency service—equivalent to our 911 or Britain’s 999.
“Today, the fleet size of ambulances has grown to 322. It is used to provide free emergency transportation services to the whole country day and night,” Sri Lankan Minister of Health and Media Nalinda Jayatissa told Modi in a communication last Saturday.
Jayatissa said that national statistics report that 2.44 million people have received care in these ambulances for things like cardiac arrest, stroke, and road accidents. 65% of these were in the “golden hour” where medical care within a few minutes can make the difference between life and death immediately.
“That is nearly 1.5 million lives saved up to now due to your generosity, and continues to save lives in Sri Lanka,” Jayatissa said.
Sri Lanka ranks well above other South Asian countries in the Human Development Index with an index score of 0.750, and out of 142 countries surveyed by the World Economic Forum, Sri Lanka cracked the top-third in terms of health industry. That was in 2011, before the ambulance donations arrived.
More modern estimates keep Sri Lanka ahead of other South Asian economies for health industry development, and the island has eradicated several infectious diseases ahead of established targets. Its life expectancy of 75.5 years at birth is 10% higher than the world average, and the country is ranked number 5 on the World Giving Index which ranks charitable behavior and gestures among the population."
