Cindyyyyyy! I am once again asking for ur info knowledge on what's going on on x with New? I am seeing ppl shit on him idk why and ur usually aware of all the mess lmao
Hi anon ! I am indeed aware of the messes as usual (at this point I get informed against my will I feel). So sit down cause that's gonna be a long one. Just know that this is what I've been able to understand based on translations found online and my own comprehension of the situation so take all of it with a grain of salt !
The "drama" going on on Twitter right now can basically be split in two parts:
1) Revamp ended and people are having very mixed feelings towards said finale. New having directed it, is getting a lot of criticism for how the show seemed rushed and both Thai and international fans seem to be mostly displeased with the ending. Among all of those comments going around (some constructive criticism, some just hate let's be real) someone tweeted (not directly @ New just posted something) this:
The original comment is in Thai, this is a generated translation. Once again, New was not quoted or tweeted at. Unfortunately, he ended up seeing it and his answer was to basically confirm he would no longer be willing to work with the person's "faves" those being ForceBook since in the original tweet the person has 🦊🍅 in their name and their whole fyp is FB.
Both the original poster and New ended up deleting their post pretty quickly but as you know the internet is forever and now famwars are raging on Twitter with ForceBook fans (both Thai and international) being mad and seeing it as New disrespecting the pair. Other fandoms are also shiming in with their comments about New and what they think of his work with their fandom.
2) That culminated in New posting quite a long post about criticism online and the comments he sometimes receives. Here is the most comprehensive translation I've found so far:
Obviously some of it didn't go well while others are defending him saying that he does get a lot of hate for his projects and that he has the right to defend himself.
Overall, the New Siwaj discourse is not new. As someone who has been following his work since Love by Chance, things like these have been going on for years.
On one end, a lot of his shows are very popular, beloved shows in the bl community (Love by Chance, Until we meet again, We Are, etc...) and one thing I will always say for him is that the actors he works with seem to like the work environnement on his sets and him as a person which is good in an industry that can quickly be toxic.
On the other, people have had problems with the way he directs for years. Some blame him for the departures from the novels as he tends to like cute, soft projects like in We Are where the drama from the novel was completely cut for what comes down to a text miscommunication. He's also often criticized for the way he directs kisses and intimacy with a lot of people saying it looks stiff and stilted even with actors who have shown they can have good chemistry in other shows. I have seen a lot of people kind of blame him for the Phuwin is a bad kisser hate train Phuwin got during We Are era as a result of his intimacy direction in WA for exemple. People also often feel like he doesn't take constructive criticism into consideration after each of his shows which is one of the points he addresses on Twitter.
In the end, I think there is something to be said about fans being allowed to have a space to complain and the people concerned being allowed to address said complaints. New is known for not taking criticism well (I'm obviously not talking about straight up hate comments) and I personally think him answering this harshly to someone who was not even addressing him directly is a bad move on his part, especially involving a pair he has worked with twice in the past already and that weren't even directly active in the problem/discussion. Obviously ForceBook haven't reacted to this at all and I don't think they will. Joong somehow got slightly involved in the backlash for simply tweeting @ New in support in the midst of the drama which was probably also a bad move on his part even if it comes from a nice gesture.
Sorry this became a whole novel anon but I guess in the end I do have a lot to say on the topic (and this was me keeping it short mind you) haha I hope this was comprehensible and answered all your questions ! 💜
