Thank you for the prompt, dear, and I hope you enjoy!
The last few months— the last year, really— had been rough on everyone, but things were improving. It was good to have everyone together like this again, in a backyard, surrounded by the smell of grilling meat and the sound of laughing children. And there was so much to celebrate, too.
Baby Han was growing more and more each day, and Jee was taking so well to being a big sister. Maddie was doing well, having open and honest conversations with Chimney and her doctors about how she was feeling and it wasn't anything like how she was after Jee-Yun was born.
Mara was officially part of the Wilson family, and the grin had hardly left her face since they left the courthouse after her adoption. The knowledge that she was home and never had to leave again—could never be made to leave again— settling something deep within her, putting to rest a lot of her worries and fears after everything that had happened with Councilwoman Ortiz.
Athena was smiling more often, accepting more dinner invitations. She wasn't her old self again, but no one expected her to be. They just didn't want to lose touch with her, and Buck especially didn't want her to be alone.
And, of course, they were celebrating the newly promoted Captain of the 118.
But the happiest thing, the thing that was the most important, the thing that Buck wanted to shout from the rooftops, was that he and Tommy had sat down and talked about their fears, their pasts and baggage, their expectations for their relationship and the future and had gotten back together. They were on the same page and fully committed to both each other and to doing the work to make their relationship last.
Buck is in the middle of telling Ravi a story when Tommy comes up next to him, crowding in close and resting a hand on his hip. He presses a quick kiss to Buck's cheek in greeting before he presses carefully assembled plate of food into his hand.
"Thanks, babe." Buck says to Tommy with a grin and a kiss to the cheek, before turning back to his conversation with Ravi, now embellishing and emphasizing with his fork. Tommy has to dodge the occasional bit of food when Buck gets too excited in the middle of taking a bite and waves the fork around before it gets to his mouth.
He's a warm, steady presence at Buck's side, interjecting when there's an opportunity but largely letting Buck steer the conversation. Buck is so overjoyed that he gets to have this, Tommy at his side, his family all around him. It's different than it was last year in a lot of ways, but for the first time in a long time he's truly content.
Ravi's drink runs out and Tommy offers to get him a new one, because he also needed a drink and 'do you need anything, Evan?'. Buck does, and he watches as Tommy makes his way across the yard to the coolers, chatting briefly when he's stopped, but he doesn't take too long, pointing over at Buck and Ravi with an apologetic expression on his face. He comes back with bottle of water for himself and beers for Buck and Ravi, opening them before handing them out like the gentleman that he is. Buck gives him a kiss in thanks.
"Thanks man, but I'm not going to kiss you. You're not my type and also I like my ankles the way they are." Ravi says, and Tommy chuckles, laughing even harder when he sees the pout on Buck's face. He kisses the pout away and Buck decides to forgive him, he did bring him food and a beer, after all. Ravi tells them that they're gross, and then asks Tommy to clarify something that Buck had said while he was gone, because he didn't believe that Buck was telling the truth, which, rude!
Tommy obliges, crowding into Buck's side again, but rests his hand at the small of his back instead of his hip. He rubs his thumb up and down while he tells Ravi a story from when he first started at Harbor.
Buck finds that this beer is making him pleasantly buzzed, and he finds himself leaning towards Tommy, just wanting to be close to him. Tommy takes his weight without a word, easily carrying the conversation with Ravi, and runs his fingers up and down his back, right on top of his spine. Buck finds himself going even more boneless and sighs to himself, happy to be here with his family and the man he wants to spend the rest of his life with.
trick or treat! may i prompt nora’s first halloween??
So this got legs and got away from me. 🙈 Like @quintessenceofdust88 said it's because Nora is a very independent girl.
Their family had been invited so celebrate Halloween with the Han's and the Wilson's, but Buck and Tommy decided to decline the invitation. Nora was only a month and a half old and had no reason to go out trick or treating. And Buck and Tommy were tired, so they didn't want to be up too late, or deal with battling traffic to get back to their house once the kids returned from trick or treating, or even to deal with the traffic when the kids left to go and collect their candy.
No, it was a much better idea for them to stay home and hand out candy, no matter how much Buck wanted to show off their family costume, and see all the kids in their costumes. Jee-Yun had happily told Buck that she was dressing up as Zoey from K-Pop Demon Hunters, but Maddie had been tight lipped about what they were dressing Kevin up as. Buck couldn't blame her, because he hadn't given any hints as to what they were dressing up as, either.
They were just about to take a family photo in their costumes when two things happened at once: Nora needed her diaper changed and the doorbell sounded, signaling that trick or treating had started.
Their first trick or treater isn't actually a trick or treater, however, but one of their neighbors. Buck blinks in surprise when he opens the door, bowl of candy in hand, only to find Mrs. Gutierrez on their doorstep. He pauses, the bowl of candy he was in the process of lifting up frozen midway.
"Oh, Mrs. Gutierrez, hi! Is everything alright?"
"Well I was going to ask you that."
Buck tilts his head in confusion. "Why would you ask me that?"
"Well it's just that I noticed that you and Tommy haven't been leaving the house much lately, your cars are always in the drive. And there was all that hubbub last month where there were all these people who weren't either of you coming in and out, before you stopped leaving. I know you boys both work dangerous jobs and I wanted to be sure that you were alright." Mrs. Gutierrez says and Buck knows that some people might be worried about the fact that she's paid that close attention to their driveway. But she lives right across the street, and she always checks in on him and Tommy when something big happens in the city, and she's been sending Tommy meals during wildfire season since he first moved in and learned that he was a first responder.
"Sorry to have worried you, Mrs. Gutierrez. We're okay, no injuries here."
"Please, Buck, I've told you to call me Helena." She has, and Buck always reverts back to calling her Mrs. Gutierrez by their next interaction.
"Helena," Buck corrects. "Neither Tommy or I are injured. Everyone is happy and healthy here."
"Then why haven't you been going to work?"
"Well…" Buck starts, but he doesn't get very far before Tommy is coming into view, cradling Nora in his arms, content now that she has a fresh diaper and looking oh so cute in her costume. Buck can't help the smile that takes over his face at the sight of his two favorite people.
"Evan, what's taking so lo- oh, hello Helena." Tommy says, pausing for a moment at the sight of Mrs. Gutierrez before he adjusts, smiling at her. "Did you need help with something?"
Mrs. Gutierrez is silent for a moment, her gaze caught on the baby in Tommy's arms. "Are you babysitting?" She asks, even though Buck thinks it's fairly obvious that they're not. Based on the gleam in her eye Buck thinks that she knows that they're not babysitting, either, but she doesn't want to assume. Tommy steps forward so that he's next to Buck, and Buck puts the bowl of candy back down so he can wrap his arm around Tommy's waist.
"No, we're not babysitting." Tommy says. "Helena, I'd like to introduce you to Eleonora Kinard, our daughter." He carefully shifts the baby in his arms so that she can see her face.
"Oh, Tommy, Buck, she's beautiful. I didn't know you had an adoption in the works." Mrs. Gutierrez says, and Buck knows that adoption is the obvious conclusion for her to come to because Buck had not been visibly pregnant, that was sort of the whole point of it being called a cryptic pregnancy, but he can't help the pang of hurt he feels at that. Even though it wasn't intentional on her part and she meant nothing by it.
"Oh, uh, she's not adopted." Buck says, ducking his head and rubbing the back of his neck when Mrs. Gutierrez turns to look at him. "Turns out I'm a carrier. Went to the hospital for appendicitis, came home with a baby."
Mrs. Gutierrez's eyes widen as she listens to Buck, but she recovers quickly, concern overriding her face. "Oh, you poor thing. And you're okay? You and the baby?"
Buck is touched that she's so concerned. "We are, yes. Little Miss Nora here has a clean bill of health." He reaches over to run a finger over the curve of her cheek. "And I'm doing well, too. It was sort of terrifying in the moment, but now I wouldn't trade her for anything."
"And your recovery is okay? You're not pushing yourself too hard?"
"Tommy is being a good fiancé and making sure I don't push myself too hard." Buck leans over to press a kiss to Tommy's cheek. "And our family is taking care of us. My sister and one of my coworkers coordinated getting the house ready for us to bring a baby home and then they gave us a baby shower once we were settled in. My captain filled up our freezer, and both our teams have been checking in." Buck says, voice filled with pride and his chest full of warmth and how everyone has come together for them, for their daughter.
"That's lovely. And fiancé? Did that happen before or after the baby?"
"After, although apparently Evan had been planning it for a while." Tommy says, carefully moving to hold the baby with one arm so that he can show off his ring.
"Well congratulations you two. On your beautiful baby and your engagement. You've always been a wonderful couple, and now you're a beautiful family." Mrs. Gutierrez smiles after she 'oohs' and 'aahs' over Tommy's ring.
"Thank you, Helena." Buck says, tightening his grip on Tommy. He still gets a little thrill whenever they get called a family. He can't help but think back to the words Thomas had spoken to him all those years ago. 'You don't find it, son, you make it.' He's made it. Quite literally, in fact, when it came to Nora.
"Now, I have to ask, what exactly is your costume, Tommy?" Mrs. Gutierrez asks, and Tommy laughs. He hands the baby over to Buck, who holds her up to press a kiss to the top of her head before he settles her against his chest. With his hands now free he reaches for the prop he's left just inside the door, brandishing it with a flourish.
"I'm a gardener." He says, gesturing towards the green apron he was wearing over one of his many plaid shirts. He'd put a pair of gardening gloves in one pocket, and there was a packet of seeds sticking out of the other. The prop he'd stashed by the door was a comically large watering can, painted with sunflowers and ladybugs.
"Oh! I see it now! And Buck is a flower, how clever. And- Nora, was it? Why she's the most adorable little ladybug." Buck preens at the praise, since the whole theme had been his idea. It had started because he'd wanted to dress Nora up as a ladybug, complete with a hat with a pair of antenna, since that was her nickname. Buck knew he was biased but he thought that she was the cutest ladybug in all of Los Angeles. And with how she liked to curl up against their chests it only made sense for him to dress up as a flower, so she could safely nestle in his greenery. He'd found a soft green shirt, and he'd crafted a headpiece that looked like a sunflower, taking care to keep the petals soft and out of anywhere Nora might end up laying. The thing that really tied the whole outfit together, in his opinion, was the flowerpot he was wearing around his waist, the classic terracotta brown, held up by a pair of green suspenders. He'd also decorated the baby carrier to look like a ladybug, knowing that at some point during the evening it would be needed.
"Thank you. It was all Evan's idea."
"Well you're very creative, Buck."
"Oh, once I decided Nora was going to be a ladybug it was easy." And Buck had decided on that once he realized he was going to have a newborn to dress in Halloween, seeing the way she was scrunched up on Tommy's chest.
"Still, you're all just darling. Oh! Have you gotten a photo of all three of you all dressed up yet?"
"Not yet, Helena. We were about to but then someone needed a new diaper." Tommy says, leaning over to press a kiss to the top of Nora's head.
"Well I'd be more than happy to take one for you."
Tommy thanks her and pulls out his phone, pulling up the camera and telling Mrs. Gutierrez how to operate it. They spend the next few minutes taking photos in a variety of poses.
"Thank you." Tommy says as she hands the phone back to him.
"No thanks necessary." She says, waving off the thanks. "Well I should get back before the trick or treaters get to mine and I cause a traffic jam on your doorstep."
"Thank you for stopping by. I'm sorry that we worried you."
"Oh, now that I know what's been keeping you boys busy I'm not at all upset." Mrs. Gutierrez tells them before she turns to start walking back to her house.
The watch to make sure that she safely makes it back to the sidewalk before they head back inside.
"Well that was interesting."
"Certainly not who I expected to be at the door." Buck agrees once they've settled themselves onto the couch. "So what movie did you decide on for us?" He had tasked Tommy with picking out what they were going to watch, knowing that they would have to pause it every time the doorbell went off and telling him that it had to be kid friendly.
"The Addams Family."
"Oh, I know who they are!"
"I know. That's part of why I picked it." Tommy says, leaning over to press a kiss to his birthmark. "I'm going to go and make us some popcorn, what do you want to drink?"
Buck decides to wait for Tommy to come back to start the movie. "Wait, why is there Christmas music if it's a Halloween movie?"
"Just watch the movie, Evan. And give me Nora before you get butter all over her."
"Your Papa is silly, Nora." Buck tells the baby in his arms, pressing a kiss to her forehead before handing her over to Tommy.
It's not long before the doorbell rings, and it takes them at least twice as long as it should to get through the movie. What feels like their whole neighborhood graces their doorstep that night amidst all the trick or treaters. Apparently they should have watched where Mrs. Gutierrez went once she reached the sidewalk, because she did not end up going back to her house and instead spread the word about the new addition to their neighborhood.
(A few days later their doorbell gets another workout, with their neighbors dropping off meals and baby gifts).
I am! I am always accepting prompts, even if I never answer them in a timely fashion.
This one ended up getting away from me a bit, and ended up being a Nora verse story. Enjoy!
A little voice calling out "Daddy!" and the sound of little feet slapping on the concrete floor of the apparatus bay is all the warning Buck has to drop his sponge into the bucket before Nora is crashing into his legs, wrapping her arms around him and looking up at him with a big grin on her face, the same scrunchy smile as her Papa. He's glad he had enough time to shift his posture, because she would have crashed right into his bad leg and sent them both sprawling onto the floor.
"Ladybug!" Buck exclaims, looking down at her, matching her grin with one of his own.
"Hi Daddy."
"Hi Nora. How did you get here? Did you fly?"
"Noooo, Daddy. I can't fly." Nora says, giggling.
"Oh. Did Papa fly here then?"
Nora shook her head. "No. Papa drive."
"Oh, Papa drove you here?" Buck asks, and Nora nods. "Where is he?"
"Um…." Nora says, twisting to look behind her for Tommy. Buck spots his husband before she does, being taller than the firefighters gathered around him, all clamoring to get a peek at the baby strapped to his chest. Nora finally sports him and points. "Papa there!" But even after she's spotted him she keeps looking around the station, standing on her tiptoes and leaning back. Buck is quick to put his hands on her shoulders before she tips over.
"Who are you looking for, Nora-bug?"
"Where's Ti'ddie?"
"Tío Eddie isn't working today. Daddy is covering for someone on B shift, remember? Daddy and everyone else work on A shift." Buck explains gently.
"No Ti'ddie?"Nora asks, eyes welling up with tears. Buck bends down and scoops her up, resting her on his hip and pressing a kiss to her curls.
"No Eddie today at the station, no.But I bet you can ask Papa to call him on your way home." Buck says, bouncing Nora and brushing the hair out of her face.
"Call Ti'ddie in car?"
"Uh-huh, you can call Tío Eddie in the car." Buck says, nodding. "Why did you and Papa and Nico come to the station today?"
"Nora missed Daddy. An' Papa missed Daddy. Me and Papa maked you cookies."
"You made me cookies?" Buck said, giving Nora a dramatic gasp. She nodded enthusiastically. "Did Papa eat a lot of them before you got here?"
Nora shook her head. "Four." She informed Buck, but he didn't put a lot of stock in that number, because four was only as high as she could consistently count to.
"And how many did you have?"
"Um… four."
"And how many did Nico have?"
"No cookie for baby."
"Oh. Did you eat his cookies for him?"
"Mmhm. Me an' Papa."
"Well if you and Papa ate them…" Buck says, tickling her side, eliciting a round of giggles. "Want to go and save Papa and Nico, so Daddy can get his cookies?"
"Save Papa! Save Nico!" Nora cheered and pointed over towards Tommy. Buck started off towards his husband, easily parting the crowd when he arrived. "Hey now, back off, they didn't come here to see you."
"Aww, come on now Kinard we just wanted to see the baby." Michaels calls out, but the crowd disperses to give the family their privacy, a few of the firefighters tossing greetings in Nora's direction as they left.
"Hey, babe." Buck says, pressing a kiss to Tommy's cheek, and then he turns and greets Nico, blowing a raspberry on his cheek. "And hi to my baby boy! Daddy missed you!"
"Hey sweetheart." Tommy says, but Buck is focused on their son, so he goes unanswered aside from Nora's giggle.
"What's this I hear about cookies?" Buck said, once he'd finished loving on his baby and had properly greeted his husband.
"Well we both missed you, and we didn't want to come to the station empty handed."
"Uh-huh, and I'm sure the fact that you both wanted cookies wasn't a factor at all?"
"Well we had to taste test them, make sure that they were worthy."
"And, what's the verdict?"
"Yours are better, but these will do until you get home." Tommy holds out the tupperware with the cookies and Buck takes one. He takes a bite and chews thoughtfully.
"What you think?" Nora asks, wiggling impatiently in his arms.
"They're perfect. Thank you Nora, Tommy. I love you."
Hello and happy Wednesday! Here’s a snippet of the fic I’m working on for @typicalopposite’s bucktommy mpreg weekend! Thank you to @korevah and @quintessenceofdust88 for cheerleading and letting me bounce ideas off of them! (For you Nora fans, don’t worry, I’m still working on Nora verse too). For now: enjoy!
Buck stared at the counter— and the objects on top of it— in disbelief, his long forgotten timer ringing in the background. "This is a joke, right? Or they're broken? Defective? Th-this can't be right."
"I don't think a dozen pregnancy tests can be defective, Evan." Tommy said, also looking at the tests lined up on the counter. Six in one neat row, with six more lined up below them. There were half a dozen different brands, and they all said the same thing. Pregnant.
"But Tommy, there's no way we can both be pregnant. How are we going to manage when we both can't bend over to put our shoes on! And then we're just— going to have two babies? How are we going to manage that."
"People have twins all the time, Evan. Triplets, even."
Bucks eyes widened. "What if we have twins, Tommy. What if we both have twins? That's going to be four babies. What if we have triplets. What if we both do. We won’t have enough arms for that, Tommy!” Buck said, bordering on hysteria at the thought of having so many babies.
"i know you didn't just hang up on me without saying 'i love you'."
Thank you for the prompt, I had so much fun working on it!
"Oh, you did not just do that." Buck said, moving his phone away from his ear and starting at it in disbelief. "He did not just do that." Buck repeated.
"Who did what now?" Chimney asked from where he was sitting next to Buck on the bench in the locker room, putting his shoes on.
"Tommy. He hung up on me."
"That's what you do when conversations are over. It sounded like the conversation was over?" Chimney said, confused. He wasn't eavesdropping, but it was hard not to hear a conversation when it was happening right next to you.
"I mean, yeah, but he hung up without saying he loves me. He always yells me he loves me before we hang up." Buck said, and there might have been a tinge of desperation in his voice.
Because ever since he and Tommy had gotten back together after the lapse in November, they always ended their calls by saying that. Yes, they were taking things slow, Buck was letting Tommy set the pace this time around because they both realized that Buck had been going too fast for Tommy, but neither of them wanted to deny the feelings that had grown in the six months they'd been together. And it was a reassurance, for the both of them. That they were equally committed and invested. They they both still wanted to be here, wanted to work on this. They they saw a future worth working towards together.
"I'm sure he didn't mean anything by it." Chimney said, trying to reassure Buck.
"Well I'm going to make sure." Buck said, tapping the call button on Tommy's contact and bringing the phone up to his ear.
"Hi, Evan. What did you forget?" Tommy said, tone fond and amused. It was not an uncommon occurrence for Buck to call Tommy back only moments after hanging up the phone, having remembered something that he'd meant to tell his boyfriend but had gotten distracted from. Or realized he'd forgotten to tell him something to pick up while he was at the store.
"I didn't forget anything. You did."
"Oh? What did I forget?" Tommy asked, going along with Buck.
"You didn't tell me you loved me before you hung up the phone!" Buck said, not keeping his tone as neutral as he intended.
Tommy chuckled. "I didn't. Evan, I told you I loved you. I always tell you I love."
"Yeah, every time but this last time." Buck retorted.
"We only hung up a few minutes ago, my memory isn't that bad, Evan. I definitely told you I love you. Right after I told you to drive safe, and that I would see you when I was done at the store." Tommy told Buck.
"I would remember that too. And you didn't say it." Buck wasn't whining, was he?
"I might not have said it in English, but I did say it."
"You- what?"
"Ti amo. That's what I said to you. It's Italian."
And. Oh. Buck did remember hearing that. He just hadn't realized that it was something that Tommy was directing towards him. "Oh." Buck said, sheepish. Even though Tommy wasn't there to see it he ducked his head.
"It's okay, Evan. Just try to remember it for the next time, okay?"
This week I promised that when I hit 20K on Nora verse I would share a snippet, and Tommy holding Nora for the first time won.
I was also tagged by @bidisasterevankinard and @unhingedangstaddict this weekend so I've decided to roll that tag into this.
But without further ado here's some Nora verse.
"Would you like to hold your daughter, mister firefighter pilot?" The nurse asks. Tommy can't find his voice so he just nods.
A moment later the baby is placed into his arms and the world—which had felt swirling and unmoored, unsteady beneath his feet since Evan was admitted to the hospital— feels steady again. He knows that the awe he is feeling is plain on his face, but he can't help it. That's his baby. He's holding his baby.
He only holds her for a few moments, turning and making his way back to Evan's side. He places her on Evan's bare chest, skin to skin, draping the thin, hospital issue baby blanket over the two of them to keep them warm. A shaky hand comes up to stroke her nose.
"Oh, she’s perfect." Evan says, the same awe and wonder that Tommy is feeling filling his voice as he looks down at their impossibly tiny daughter. Tommy wonders if Evan felt his world shift the same way that Tommy did when she was placed in his arms.
"She’s got my nose."
"Like I said, she’s perfect." Evan says, and Tommy knows if he had the energy he would be directing a playful glare his way, but all he does is stare down at their miraculous little girl, gently stroking at her cheek. "Hi, baby," Evan says, so softly Tommy almost misses it. "I didn’t know about you until today, but I’m so glad you’re here now." Evan bends down to place a kiss on top of her head. "I love you so much, and so does your other dad."
Tommy doesn't know how long they spend in that moment, the three of them in their own little bubble, but eventually reality comes back to them.
"I'm sorry to interrupt, dads, but we need to take baby for some testing." A nurse says, a regretful look on their face. Tommy knows that they were lucky that they've had this much time with her, that they wouldn't be taking her away if it wasn't important. It's a good sign that she wasn't whisked away the moment that she was born, Tommy reminds himself. It means that there were no immediate concerns, but they don't know everything that's going on internally.
"O-okay." Evan says, swallowing thickly. "I love you." He tells the baby, again, and he presses another kiss to the top of her head. He doesn't loosen his grip on her, so Tommy reaches out and takes her from him, Evan's hands falling limply on his chest now that he doesn't have a baby to cradle there.
Tommy holds her close to his own chest for a moment, leaning down and pressing his own kiss to the top of her head, and stays there for a second, eyes closed, head bowed, and then he hands her over to the waiting nurse.
The moment she's out of her dads arms she starts to fuss, and it takes every bit of willpower Tommy posses not to reach out and snatch her back from the nurse. The nurse gives them a sympathetic look and assures them that she'll be in the very best, most capable hands, and then turns and walks away and out of the room, taking Tommy's new center of gravity with them.
Buck/Tommy for the build a fic, please: "I say this with all the love in my heart, but you look like shit.", sickness, an airplane hangar
I am so so sorry that this took me nearly two months to finish. I hope you enjoy! 🫶
There’s a hand on Tommy’s shoulder and it’s shaking him. He tries to bat at it, but finds that he can’t lift his own hand that high. “Leave me alone.” Tommy mumbles, and he’s pretty sure it comes out unintelligible.
“Come on, baby, it’s time to wake up.” A voice says, and there’s a cool hand on his forehead, rubbing back and forth gently. Soothingly. He knows that voice, that voice is so familiar. Who is it? “Come on, I need you to open your eyes for me, sweetheart.”
Tommy does his best to obey, because he knows that voice and it’s asking so nicely, but his eyes are so heavy it takes him a few tries, and then he has to blink because it’s so bright above him, except for where the light is being blocked by a familiar looking body. “‘Van?” Tommy says, tongue sticking in his mouth as he squints up at his boyfriend. Tommy is so confused, what is Evan doing here? And in his uniform? “What are you doing here?” He asks, the words coming out before he can think to keep them inside his head.
“I’m here to take you home, sweetheart.” Evan says, and Tommy’s brow furrows. It’s not time for him to go yet. He might be really confused, but he knows that much at least. And how did he get here. Because Tommy distinctly remembers that he had dropped Evan off at his station, because the Jeep was giving him trouble and Tommy hadn’t had a chance to look at it before their shifts started.
“‘M supposed to pick you up.”
“You were, yes, but that we before your Captain called me and told me to come and get you.” Evan says, crouching down so that he’s eye level with Tommy.
Tommy frowns. Why would his Captain do that?
“Why did he do that?”
“Because you threw up when you went to get out of engine after your last call.”
“I did that?” Tommy says, in sync with thinking it this time.
“You did.” Evan says, running his hand through Tommy’s hair.
“Why did I do that?”
“I don’t know, sweetheart. But I’m going to take you home and take care of you until you feel better, okay?” Evan says, and Tommy doesn’t say anything, just makes a noise of agreement, leaning into the hand in his hair.
Tommy doesn’t know how long he sits there with Evan’s hand in his hair, but he does know that he doesn’t like it when it stops. He whines, and he doesn’t even feel embarrassed about it.
“I know, sweetheart.” Evan soothes. “But don’t you think you’ll be a lot more comfortable at home? We can lay down in bed, you can snuggle up with your favorite fuzzy blanket, I can put on a movie, we can take a nap together.”
That does sound nice. Why are they still at Harbor if they could be at home doing that. “Okay.” Tommy agrees, and does his best to sit up. Evan is right there next to him, gently guiding him into a sitting position, giving him a moment to get his bearings before helping him up off of the couch and out to his truck.
Buck helps Tommy get buckled into the passenger seat, adjusting the seat so that he’s comfortable. He puts a bowl into his lap, ‘just in case’. Tommy appreciates that, because he doesn’t fancy the thought of having to clean the interior of the truck because he got sick. Buck then goes around the truck and gets into the drivers seat and gets the truck started, adjusting the heating so that it’s comfortable for Tommy.
“Why don’t you go back to sleep, and I’ll wake you up when we get home?” Buck suggests, reaching over to run his hand down Tommy’s cheek.
Hello friends! Yesterday I said that when I hit 10,000 words in my WIP I would post a snippet from Nora Verse. The overwhelming majority of votes were for the first (still unedited) scene.
And so, without further ado, here we go.
The moment Buck woke up he knew something was off. It had to be, because there was no other reason for him to be up at, he blearily glanced at the alarm clock on Tommy's nightstand and saw 2:17 blinking back at him, 2:17 in the morning. He took stock of his body, but he couldn't pinpoint what it was that had woken him up, just that he was vaguely uncomfortable, and his back kind of hurt.
He settled back into the covers, thinking maybe he could get back to sleep, when he felt it. The pain that he woken him up. It was gone again by the time he was thinking of waking Tommy up, but he felt it. He rearranged himself to the best of his ability without waking Tommy so that he was sitting up and waited to see if he felt it again.
He did, and it felt a bit more intense than it had been before. He sighed to himself and got out of bed. Paced around the room a bit. No change in the discomfort. Went down the hall and tried to go to the bathroom. No change. Climbed back into the bed, rearranging the pillows again.
When he felt it for a third time he reached over to shake Tommy's shoulder. "Tommy. Tommy, wake up."
"Hmm wazzit?" Tommy said, squinting up at Buck with one eye, rubbing sleepily at the other.
"I think we need to go to the hospital. I- I think it's my appendix." Buck said
That woke Tommy up. "The hospital? Are you sure?"
"I woke up almost 40 minutes ago and the pain has only gotten worse. Nothing I do relieves it." Buck says, glancing at the clock and seeing that it's closer to 3AM than it was when he woke up.
"Okay, okay. You just- stay there, I'll go start the car." Tommy says, pressing a kiss to the side of Buck's head and extracting himself from the blankets and rolling out of bed. He grabs his jeans from the day before from where he'd left them in a pile on their bedroom floor, making quick work of pulling them up and getting them buttoned. It's but a moments work from him to swap the shirt he was sleeping in for a new one from their dresser. He's out the door a moment later and Buck follows the sound of his steps down the hall and to the front door, the sound of the lock unlocking and the jangle of keys as Tommy picks up the keys to his truck from the key bowl. Buck is distracted from any further listening as he's overcome by another wave of pain.
Tommy comes back into the bedroom with Buck's sneakers in his hand and a hoodie draped over his arm. He comes over to Buck, presses a kiss to his forehead and leaves the shoes at his feet and the hoodie on the bed next to him before he goes over to their dresser, pulling out a tshirt, sweats, and some socks.
"Let's get you into something comfy, okay Evan?" Tommy says, helping Buck out of the T-shirt he'd worn to bed, pressing a kiss to the bare skin of his shoulder before helping him pull the new shirt and the hoodie on, tenderly brushing the hair back from his forehead after he puts the hood down. Then Tommy turns his attention to the sweatpants and socks, picking Buck's bad leg up, gently pulling the first sock up and pressing a kiss to his knee before repeating the motion with the other leg, before carefully, gently pulling the sweatpants up, rubbing a comforting hand on his hip when he's done. "All set. Do you have everything you need?" Tommy asks Buck.
In response Buck reaches over to his nightstand and unplugs his phone and shoving it, charger and all, into the pocket of his hoodie . "My wallet is downstairs, right?"
"It is. I already grabbed it for you." Tommy says, patting his own pocket. He goes to retrieve his own phone from his side of the bed and then goes to help Buck up. "Come on, then, nice and easy." He says, helping Buck to slowly stand up, keeping an arm around his waist as they make their way down the hall and out of the house to Tommy's truck. Tommy helps Buck get buckled into his seat and then runs back to double check he locked the front door before he's popping into the drivers seat and pulling onto the road.
"Do you want to call anyone?" Tommy asks, only taking his eyes off the road a moment to look at Buck .
"No, it's the middle of the night, no need to panic everyone when they wouldn't even be able to visit if they admitted me right away. Maybe when we know what's going on, but not until then."
"Okay, you just rest now, okay?" Tommy says, reaching over to rub his hand soothingly up Buck's thigh for a moment. Buck hums in agreement and leans back in his seat, closing his eyes as a he does so. He's not sure how much he'll be able to rest, with the growing discomfort he's feeling, but he's going to give it his best shot.
