Week 2! Now, last we parted, I was discussing the survivability of my red acrylic nail set- now I must admit… she took a beating this week. Tuesday started off moving with a drop off of LED lights to the shop, meaning we had to test and place them back to their correct place. (Truly, I think I am going to be FAR more muscular than I was at the beginning of this journey) Regardless, it was fun for me to test and learn about the lights. It always is. On Tuesday, we started the rebranding process. Because Cinespace was previously known as “Screen gems” there is still tons of equipment with the screen gems logo- obviously Cinespace cannot give out their equipment with two logos, so the screen gems logo must be removed- guess who gets to do that (yours truly) this week, we were removing the “SGS” label from cables, and in order to do so, you must use a box cutter. I suppose my box cutter usability skills are a little behind, because I kept knicking myself a little. I was repeatedly told to cut AWAY from myself, but you know, directions are difficult, and eventually in an attempt to remove labels I sliced the tip of my thumb REALLY good. The soft fleshy part- blood EVERYWHERE. Maybe I have been watching too much Euphoria- and had Nate Jacobs finger injuries on the brain. For awhile, I ignored it. Cleaned it out and bandaged it up. About an hour or so later, it was still bleeding, so we had to head back to the shop and get me some medical attention. In the end, I was treated by the medic on set. I was driven over to set via golf cart. (Very fun) and the medic on the scene cleaned out my wound, applied some ointment and a glue like substance, and then bandaged me up REAL good. It was great. He was super kind and had even admitted that he was sort of just waiting around. So I bet I was a real surprise! Everyone was so good about it- truly had me fixed up in a matter of minutes. Thank you Cinespace for taking care of me. Regardless, it was a good week. My nail set survives another set of days, and hopefully I can get through the next few weeks with no self inflicted injuries.
Had to include a pic of Zephyr- cinespace doggy.

My name is Faith Gibson. If you've ever spoken to me before, (even just the smallest snippets of conversation) chances are that I mentioned (and more likely tried to steer the topic of conversation) towards the fact that my sophomore year, I lived abroad in Rome, Italy. If you didn't know, now you do. It has become incredibly vital to my image and overall aura. I mention Italy constantly. It's important that you know. THANK GOD we've got that established.
As special as Italy was, unfortunately the film program was quite small. Not that I loved it any less, but the rigor of the class compared to the classes at UNCW were quite noticeable- and by the time I returned to American soil, it didn't take long for me to realize I was quite behind my peers in terms of film school... especially regarding equipment.
I was interested in this internship with Cinespace because I wanted to polish my knowledge and skills with the equipment. Writing scrips and directing is my passion, but in order to really be a threat in the film world, familiarity with the equipment is essential. Especially lighting and grip. As much as my friends and I joked about "needing to lock in during 201" in 'Intro to directing' I REALLY did need to.
Basically, with Cinespace, I act as their fourth crew member. I help them with inventory, labor, and repairs. If you know anything about me, you know that those three words to NOT coincide with the image I am sure you've curated in your head- and you would be correct. But, I think it's absolutely necessary for me. I am super excited to broaden my knowledge regarding the equipment, and after my first week, I can already say that I have learned a ton. Perhaps getting a manicure first thing this week was NOT wise, but I'll keep you guys updated on how my acrylic 'French raspberry red' set survives the next four weeks.
Thank you professor Byrd for waiving the late penalty :) it is greatly appreciated.

This last month at Cinespace has been the busiest in my time here. They wrapped up production on RJ Decker and have been sorting the massive amount of equipment that was used for that production. I've spent most of this past month at Cinespace helping take inventory on the piles and piles of equipment with the other workers. It may sound monotonous, but I have really enjoyed doing a lot of the nitty gritty things for helping with their equipment.
Some hands on stuff I've done have been grading rags, testing Vortex lights, and testing stands. I have been very fortunate that the people at Cinespace have been a lot less hands on with me and allowed me to be more independent. I have really grown exponentially in terms of my knowledge and ability with g&e these past few months, and I have Cinespace to thank for that. They have been my main source of practice and learning with everything that comes with lighting and grip. I have been fortunate to start getting a lot more hands on opportunities on sets for students and even a few paid commercial gigs and I hope my career will continue to flourish in the coming months and years.
