I think I've posted before about wanting to make a Ruby + Amethyst fusion, so here's some of the concept sketches I did for her late September -- the second attempt at it, specifically.
I'll probably still mess around with her look if/when I draw her again, but I kinda like the sort of pirate-y vibe that just naturally arose from combining Amethyst and Ruby's outfits, so we'll see (I feel like she's too Garnet-y, but her demeanor and body language might be enough too offset that. she's a LOT less quiet and reserved)
I do not have a gem type in mind for her, I know absolutely nothing about gemstones and had very little luck googling around for one. Suggestions are very welcome
Anyways. additional stuff:
And here's the very first go at her I made, just to get the cutesy tiny thing out of my system, before really looking at any other fusions for reference:
(working on this fusion idea is what first prompted my over elaborate fusion height headcanons btw)
+ some of my notes!
I'd meant to take more notes and analyze the fusions deeper, especially with numbers of limbs and eyes and stuff, but I did not have the attention span for that at the time and got so derailed by the height part of it, so if it's gonna happen it'll have to be later, next time I draw her
anyways. this idea finally being posted is brought to you by Save The Light putting them next to each other and reminding me of how hilariously intense and impatient they'd be as a duo
I think it would be really fun to see them be friends. firecrackers the both of them
HD transparent version of my drawing of Cinnabar from the new Steven Universe episode, Shitty OC Self-Insert! Go witness its glory on @zephyrthejester‘s blog!
Pearl-Sapphire fusion is a very fun idea to me, because I think she might just be micromanaging control issues out of anxiety incarnate. She's got a good idea of how things are meant to go, and she gets very stressed out when variables change or when she she doesn't know what's going on. (combing Pearl's neuroticism with Sapphire's future vision, and a touch of Garnet's stress over being the leader who needs to know everything)
She and the Ruby-Amethyst fusion are both such disbalanced piling of issues that feed into each other, it's so funny to me.
Cinnabar is too high-energy, full impulsivity and intense, explosive emotions, she's anxious when alone and full of abandonment issues. Do not leave her alone with her thoughts (pre s5 at least), she does Not want to consider who she is when she isn't showing off to Steven and generally playing and having fun.
Pearl-Sapphire fusion (unnamed thus far) is also anxious, but she copes with it by trying to be in control and know everything, instead of distracting herself. She thinks she's the only one with the brain cell but she also knows she can't handle everything alone.
(I'll need to really sit down and think about Sapphire and Pearl some more to be more confident in any of this, but that's the mental image I've got in my head right now at least)
trying to figure out how many limbs Cinnabar should have. I think my instinct that she should have a second pair of arms is probably right, but not as sure on the eyes. Probably just gonna go with two tho bc it's easier to draw, and I want to give Pearl and Sapphire's fusion extra eyes
as well as Cinnabar, and the theoretical Pearl-Sapphire fusion that exists in my head, I do kinda want to make a whole amethyst-pearl-ruby fusion as well just to make her a fire opal. no other reason
I like to imagine that Cinnabar was first formed in a situation where Ruby and Sapphire were separated, and they needed to fuse to reunite the two.
Not sure what the details of that would be tho. Maybe just straight up an AU of the incident in STL. Maybe a situation where Pearl and Sapphire also fused to try and get back to Ruby and Amethyst. idk, but I feel like there would have to be some sort of outstanding circumstances for Ruby or Sapphire to fuse w/o the other
(they might also form her a few times in a post-canon context too tho, after Ruby and Sapphire start getting unfusing for smaller things like teaching different classes at Little Homeschool. either for fun or utility)
(tbh, trying to figure out how she could realistically happen in canon is the one frustrating thing about her to my nitpickery canon compliance brain)
